as rotary (and many other tools with plastic housings) get used the stationary part of the motor (field) can get loose and vibrate making a lot of noise, here I show the easy way to shim the field to tighten it up and quiet down the tool.

This solved my issue. I used electrical tape folded over 3 times and it worked perfectly. 4 times was too thick

Good to know about the shim method, but I think my issue is with the front bearing. THANK YOU for calling out that that’s a difficult repair.

I removed the front bearing by using a soldering iron for the center shaft and dry Ice on the outer shaft and it just slips apart easily. Replaced the bearings with Boca bearings, it's so smooth. Mine is the cordless Dremel.

Maybe rapid heating and cooling results in shrinking the metal by a very small amount

I keep finding Dremels at garage sales for $5 or so. I have 7 now, with different attachments so I don't have to keep changing in the middle of a project. Call me lazy.

I actually passed up a couple of dremels I had the option to "dumpster-dive" for myself that probably could have been saved. good to know!!

You realize now that you know this, you will never again in life have another chance to find a dremel just lying around, free to harvest, from a dumpster.

I have a cordless Dremel 8000... it stalls with the lightest use. How do I repair or bypass this Stall Protection? Desperately seeking solution.

I'ce got a Dremel 300, & had a lot of problems with it! Firstly, I had a loose connection in the field coil, so had to replace it. Then the variable speed switch went, so that needed replacing too! But it's nice to have it working again...

Before the variable speed models came out, I used a light dimmer rotary switch to adjust speed.. just thought I would add that! Thanks, love your channel.

Nice! I have been working on a pre WW2 motor that utilized wooden shims seemingly for the same purpose. Pieces of toothpicks or popsicle sticks may work just as well. I prefer pneumatic over electric roto tools due to lack of outlets and abundancy of air hoses. I am impressed with the design of that one, though.

I was happy to find this video, as I have the same model dremel my dad bought in the 90s & am having the same issue, usually from using larger burrs... but I feel you could have used something much better, something that would mold to the inside instead of some washers that will almost assuredly get shaken loose. Someone else said memory foam for instance. I immediately though of a piece of dried rtv silicone... thank you for the idea, anyways. Lol I'll go make a thin piece of silicone & try it out.

Take some screen spline and cut along one side to make a more permanent, waterproof gasket.

I think 🤔 I’d try a hose washer for that application (if it’s not too thick). The rubber is probably more heat resistant, and won’t let the motor’s field rub against the inside of the tool’s housing. I’d be afraid 😳 of gummy washers melting, or turning into mush. Your friend, Jeff

Mine was super noisy like that. I took apart, dusted it with a brush, put back together and noise was gone. I have a different one with a variable power and it's not working right. 1-5 is really slow and stops just by touching it. When it goes to 6 (max) it goes up to 33k RPM. Not sure how to fix that. It's all or nothing really

My dremel is messing with me. I haven't used it in a while, but I am preparing to do some projects. I recalled the last times i used it, that it sounded loud, scary & like it was dying. So I decided to look into maintenance/ repair. Following the first 'checks' as shown in this video, my Dremel now sounds perfectly fine, without doing one thing to it. HMMMMM.

Dremel tools didn’t update the way they build their rotary tool.. same old issues since they made this tool centuries ago😂

Might as well put piece of memory foam on each side
@CatusMaximus
@CatusMaximus 2 года назад
Too soft and if you use the tool until it gets hot then I think a memory foam would not recover and just compressed it end up loose again
@HeadsUP253
@HeadsUP253 2 года назад
Oh yeah i see ur point no memory foams.. Rubber washers wont burn? And any other options if i dont have washers?

A variety of plastic the case is nylon so if you get nylon washers from the hardware store

It should probably be noted that once you’ve taken a screw out , you’ve voided any warranty on it

"washer things" "little rubbery washers" well, there's almost eight minutes no one will get back. I know thumbs-down benefits you about the same, so I thought I'd explain why you got one from me. If people want to follow your example, you've left them with barely half of what they'd need to know.
