im italian (not neapolitan tho) and i usually just cut the soft tip off first with utensils and then proceed to eating the rest of the slice with my hands. many people do the flip thing tho or eat it entirely with utensils (if you're my dad)
Living in Napoli for three years, i never ate Neapolitan pizza by cutting it into slices and using my hands. Never saw any locals eating it that way, either. Only ate with knife and fork.
In 1970s, there was a pizza store in coney island Brooklyn ny that made real italian pizza we had to eat with knife and fork. I think it had a green storefront.
The way I learned to eat pizza in Italy (Viterbo specifically where the pizza can be super thin and more crisp) is to cut the pizza in half, fold said half and eat it- cut to me visiting Italy again 8yrs later with my husband and just devouring an entire pizza like that on my own 😅
This is how I, a Swede, eat my pizza too. Don't want the toppings to escape and our pizzas are similar to the original in Italy - at least in thickness of crust
Hmmm....the only time I ate pizza with my hands when I was in Italy was when I walked into a place where they sold pizza by the piece to go. I used utensils when eating pizza in restaurants in Italy; never picked it up with my hands.
Love your take on US and Italy differences, keep at it!! Admitting to probably being an asshole, but do Italians die inside just a little bit when they see you using utensils in that way? I do when I see my cuz from the states eating. 😂😂 Must be my suppressed feelings as I was brainwashed on table manners by my parents. It's a big deal. 😅😅
I was about to be a responsible adult and eat something healthy and not all I can think of is pizza. This video destroyed all my willpower gee thanks K 😂
I am from Napoli, we eat plenty of pizza. Let me tell you, if you get really good at eating it, you get the little cornet to fold too and nothing will fall down.
They're going by American standards. In America (I'm not American so don't take me for an authority) you have new york pizza which is similar, you have 'Italian' or thin crust pizza which is thin but cooked until the base is crispy and doesn't flop, or you have Chicago pizza which is very, very thick, and if you're Italian you should probably not find out about because you won't be happy.
Yes, that is VERY thin by American standards! Extremely thin. In America, most pizza crust would probably be considered like focaccia bread to Italians. It is thick and can be a little oily.
Wait the entire time I was in Italy I could have been asking to have my pizza cut??? The knives were never foot enough to cut it and by the time I did the pizza wasn't warm :(
I had to ask for them to cut the pizza because I was still recovering from an accident and couldn't hold utensils, and they looked at me like I was crazy. I guess Italian disabled people stay in their homes lol.
I have never seen anyone hold a fork that way... Also, why would you pin down the rest of the pizza with your fork instead of the smaller piece your cutting off???
Americans and Canadians who think they are cultured hold it like that. Upper classes still know how to hold the fork ,they just hold it in the opposite hand from Europeans.
@@micibob7572”Americans and Canadians don’t think so much about how to hold the utensils; they do what works. Upper classes who think they are cultured look down on everyone else anyway, and this is just another area where we do it.” There. Fixed it for you!
In a restaurant or pizzeria usually yes, but as you can see these are not American sized pizzas. You can sometimes find pizzerias where pizza is ordered "al metro" which means that can be shared at the table and it can be divided in different types in the same order
@@JasminaSin35 at the restaurant italians usually eat pizza with knife and fork at least in my region but nobody tells you anything if you use your hands.
otakuwannabe4455 lots of people, especially older people who have been used to be more polite manners at the dinner table. And people who don't like greasy fingers.
@@marcoac-sx6lq oh maybe it’s just the areas of italy, my mom lived in a country next to italy and sometimes went there for lunch and she said that people eat it with a fork and knife
@stateofswift.fanpage pizza is a Neapolitan dish, not Italian in general. So if you go north or to areas next to other countries you will find the strangest ways of doing things. However I can confidently say that through all Italy is fine to eat pizza with hands. Some people use only knife and fork, but not the majority.
