Pomegranate is a weird, messy fruit. When selecting a pomegranate, choose a fruit that is heavy for its size. The skin should be firm. Pomegranate juice can be quite messy, and will easily stain clothing. It is a good idea to slice and prepare pomegranate in a large bowl or kitchen sink where the juice splatter can be contained. The edible part of the pomegranate are the red "seeds" within the fruit. Pomegranate is high in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins C, and potassium.

I see the pomegranate juice is becoming popular. My favorite fruit never found in the stores is mulberry.

I love mixing pomegranate with apple sauce and serve it with roast pork...very delicious!!! Eat a couple tablespoons and take your blood pressure, it is excellent for lowering blood pressure.

Pat Sobczyk I think I even I could enjoy pomegranate paired up with applesauce--that's a great suggestion.

The whole process works best if done in a big bowl of water, the seeds will sink and all of the membrane just floats to the top. Makes for a much less time consuming snack!

What about rolling the whole pomegranate, cut it in half and whacking each half with a spoon.

There is healthful stuff inside the seed, I chew them to release it and then suck the pulp into a little cud and spit on my spoon. lol if these seeds are put through a slow masticating juicer you get something like pomegranate milk, much milder in flavor compared to the astringent and sometimes sour red juice from just the red potion. I am making a tincture now from the dark skins and have heard that is good too. All dark reds , blues and black type fruits have special therapeutic nutrients.

I really love Pomegranate preparation and eating, as long as others do that ... Luckily, for me it is not required, means I am absolutely healthy so why I should eat all these fruit pills full of vitamines and fibres and stuff ... ;-)

Hi. Im arab and we cut just in the skin and open them up. Cut lightly the skin and open with your hand without westing any juice!

Layla Ell. I've read some accounts of folks opening them up submerged under water in order to separate the seeds, but that also sounds like the juice would be wasted.

L Hoskins they always seem a little on the tart side to me...and even though CG does all the work extracting the seeds, I rarely have a bite (which I'm sure she's quite happy about!)

Edward Spencer "pomegranate" is actually an _old French_ word meaning "pain in the butt"

I thought it meant stone-apple... Then again all old french words relate to butts in some way.

hmmm pomegranate jam, perhaps? :D hahaha she made it look so easy!!!!!
@ChefBuckRecipes
@ChefBuckRecipes 9 лет назад
The Kneady Homesteader CG gets a lot of practice...folks seem to use the seeds in many recipes, but they don't last around here long enough for her to do anything with them...CG peels out the seeds and they're gone just as fast as she can eat them. I don't get it. Her whole family is like that. I never tried them until she and I got together. Over the Christmas holiday, CG bought one and introduced the fruit to my mom...my mom liked it, which really surprised me.
