Give me a string line and level and we can build like the Egyptians. Those 2 tools are the difference between so-so and spectacular. Very streamline and clean line lends itself to a pleasing manicured look. Great video thanks

In February we used the bullet stones to make a new bed. We're old, it started raining so we just laid them down. It looks pretty good, but my husband is not satisfied. So he will pull them up this fall when weather is cooler and use your method to get it looking better. Tanks Michelle.

WOW FANTASTIC VIDEO! I can't wait to fix all my bricks now...BUT I will wait until fall because it's 100+ degrees in my zone 7 Oklahoma garden. I LOVE all the knowledge you have and share with us! My garden has really improved this year from following you! I put in a nice mailbox garden that my neighbors love too. I also put in a shade garden in a spot I was struggle with. I have truly enjoyed watching and learning from you!

I just did a flower garden. First I dug out my design then I used dry quick setting concrete as a foundation kept it dry and leveled…set the bricks, leveled them…then gently sprinkled eveything…it looks amazing…also did this around the house 2 years ago and still looks perfect.

Yet again this is an amazing help. I was given some bricks a couple years ago. I cleared the little trench and placed them. Now they are all tilted and look terrible with grass growing between them. I didn’t know how to place them. I grew up in the country and had a country farm. Now I’m in the city limits with Code enforcement. Needless to say now that my garden has grown I haven’t heard from them. I’m learning to use a weed eater too!!

What started out as my good intentioned plan became very overwhelming to get out 3 videos every week. It was the main reason last year I went from a 3 day a week video schedule to 2 days a week. I should have learned from my experience..but I get so excited to try and teach and share that i bite off more than I can handle. I hope to have a few more videos on that subject, but I can not seem to manage 1 video on that weekly. I suppose it would be easier if vlogging was all I did....but alas I still have to manage so many other things.

Thanks for the precise explanation Michelle! One question, how much top soil will you need over the gravel on the side of the brick for the grass to grow properly?

How do you fix a circle that already has a bunch of things in it? (Like a tall rose bush).
@gardeningTLC
@gardeningTLC Месяц назад
You still pick a center point.and come out with the tape measure, but instead of walking fhe circle with a string attached..measure out 8-12 or more points from the center. Mark each point with a paint dot and then connect the dots Make sure the center is a fixed point.

Why all the gravel around the house and tables. It is hard to level chair and tables on rocks. I think there are more aesthetically appealing options.
@gardeningTLC

I am sure there are. I did not do that it was already there.

Don’t use bricks or stone in the edge, it’s going to cause long term maintenance issues that will always require dismantling of the edge. Edges should allow access for mowers to easily maneuver around and cut grass along edges… in gardening edges always require the most amount of maintenance if you put obstacles in your way it only increases it.
@gardeningTLC
@gardeningTLC Месяц назад
Thanks for your input. I personally do not live a world of absolutes. People use edging, whether you think they should or not...well it is really their choice. But thanks for your opinion.
@ChristopherLeifson
@ChristopherLeifson Месяц назад
Yeah, I agree you can absolutely put in the extra effort to keep it maintained, although I would set the bricks at ground level, and I stand if using something with fines I would use a 4 inch base of clean aggregate void of any organic matter. If you have an 8 inch barrier of inorganic matter then what you have done would be sufficient albeit you still have to use a string trimmer for the edge. All that being said as a gardener it is important to be absolute about an edge, minimizing maintenance, and reducing the tools necessary to maintain a yard. Otherwise you’re absolutely digging your grave.
