How to Edit a Page in WordPress using the Classic Editor

This video shows the basics of how to edit a page in WordPress using WordPress version 4.3 including how to add an image to the page and uncover the second row of editing icons. The WordPress installation in this video is using the Classic Editor and not the new Gutenberg Block Editor.
If you want to switch to use only the Classic Editor on your site, you can install the 'Classic Editor' plugin and activate it. Then your edit pages would look more like the one shown in this video.
If you want to learn how to use the Gutenberg Block Editor, search RU-vid for "how to edit a page in WordPress using Gutenberg" or similar and you should get some tutorials that cover that.

Help!!!! I do not have any edit buttons like you do! I have what's called a BLOCK EDITOR and it literally doesn't let me do anything!!!

in block editor .... on the top in right conner there is three dot click on it see below there is an option called switch to classic editor and if you dont have it go to plugin download 'classic editor and it works

This is not like my 'edit' page at all.Mine presents me with a long list of 'revisions' links, which open up to a bewildering page full of text & code.Very frustrating.

type your site url followed by /wp-admin www.YourSite.com/wp-admin

@@byRiDL That's good, that's for security. Only dummies leave it /admin or /wp-admin it should be something like /uafd098ayshf9su8DHSFdfu7hasfd9a7shfas9faff and it should be saved somewhere, good luck :^)

at 3:05 time period (and others) you can see the publish, page attributes, etc on the right side...where can you edit what is there. I simply cannot find anyplace to change what is in that section on the right...help!

How can I edit in visual mode? In my site, no visual mode is available. Is there any changes in settings...? Plz help me out.

Hi there....sorry I missed this comment. You can check your profile by going to 'Users', 'Profile' in the left column of the WordPress dashboard and see if there is a 'Visual Editor' field with a checkbox for ' Disable the visual editor when writing' --- if it's checked, uncheck it. I believe this option can be overridden by using a plugin, so if you don't see that option, check with your WP admin. If you are the administrator and don't see that option or it's not working, then there may be another issue that needs troubleshooting.

I like the way you present & your detailed explanation is helpful to someone who is new to Wordpress. Could you possibly make a video on how to make changes- edit pages & add link pages to an existing Wordpress website for a clubhouse.The person who set it up left us without instructions. HELP!

Thank you SangFroid. You changed the Headings, but not the text of the heading. I.E. heading 1, 2, not the header. Do you change the heading to the one you want in that place setting, than change the heading text? Thank you.

Hi, according to WordPress.COM, yes, it's possible. So, I assume it will work the same for all WordPress sites. On a quick check, it looks like it does. wordpress sucks. i dont even get that layout when editing a page. i hate that the plugins are so good but wordpress is shockingly bad.

Hi! You are probably getting the new Block Editor (called Gutenberg) that came out in 2018. This video is from 2015 when the Classic Editor was the only editor. If you want to switch to use only the Classic Editor on your site, you can install the 'Classic Editor' plugin and activate it. Then your edit pages would look more like the one shown in this video. If you want to learn how to use the Gutenberg Block Editor, search youtube for "how to edit a page in wordpress using gutenberg" or similar and you should get some tutorials that cover that. Thanks, for the video! I am able to do everything except, how can you say how to delete the red edit from the site page, so it does not show up? It can go, into our dashboard, therefore, anyone can go right into our dashboards. Thank You!

@@ManyAngelsofMercy Hi there! That 'edit' link should only be visible on the actual page only if you are logged in to WordPress. Try visiting the page from another browser where you are not logged in...the 'edit' link shouldn't be there. If it is, then there might be an issue with your theme, or sometimes caching can cache it if the settings are wrong.

I am using the classic and when I write my post in the classic editor, the spacing and alignment looks great. But when I update it and push it to my site, the alignment changes and it doesn't look nearly as clean. Any idea what could be happening and what I could do to fix it? Thanks

Hi there! It sounds like it could be one of 2 common things.....1. The stylesheet of the theme is changing/overriding the styles that you see in the classic editor, which is what theme styles are designed to do....or 2. There is extra code that is not visible in the 'Visual' tab in the Classic Editor that is messing with how your content looks on the front end. Here is a link to the Classic Editor plugin for reference - wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/ .....However, you can just install it through the WordPress admin.
