yes, pretty much the same work flow as mine; i only use the GoPro Player app to convert to the equirectangular projection; i also use the mouse to orient the video image in combination with adjusting the individual rotary dials; i've been happy with the Hero Max; supposedly version 2 is to be released soon ... hopefully, it has specs, performance that meets or surpasses the new Insta360 RS w/ 1" sensor.
Is there a way ro make the Orientation PAN/TILT linear? everything I am trying is making the orientation pan to curve in and out so it slows down the pan toward the ends so i am unable to link to shots to pan evenly. Thanks for any help and this video was handy! (your video just suggested starting the pans earlier and later which is a pain, but on standard pans and KB style you can adjust to linear).
This is one of the frustrating things in fcpx with 360 footage….whenever I want really smooth motion I actually end up using gopro FXReFrame in Adobe Premier.
I have FCP 10.6.5 and I do not see a "Mapping" choice in the "Orientation" area. Is there a plugin that I need, or has the "mapping" feature been moved to another area within FCP?
It should still be in the inspector. The only thing I can think of is….did you convert the 360 video file to a useable format using GoPro player first?
@@CorbinBlanton I exported to a .mov file. Does it need to be mp4 or something else? And the file is 56Gigs. I exported in ProRes and a 6K video. I want to do my edit and export out of Final Cut in 6K, so I figured I needed to import at 6K.
@SFBayMTB Here's what I discovered after having the same problem. If your project is set up as a 360 project in FCP (meaning you're going to output a navigable video for headset or mobile), then you don't see the "Mapping" or "FOV" in the Orient section. If your project is set up as a flat 1080p project (meaning you're going to output a flat video and reframe the 360 shots), then you do get the options. This video is about how to output a flat video -- note that at 3:00 in his project settings, it's set to 1080p HD.
@@DougNelson88 Thanks for this. it's very helpful. Question: Is the "Tiny Planet" option only available when a video is 1080P? Is there a way to create a "tiny planet" in a higher resolution? To get around the 1080p output limitation inherent in reframed video from GoPro Player, could I output from GoPro Player in 4K or 5.6K, then do my reframing in Final Cut Pro, thus maintaining 4K or 5.6K HD quality?
So I was able to export in equirectangular after closing and retrying but this time exporting only a trimmed clip (which makes no sense) BUT now in that sub menu I don't see what you're seeing. Under the orientation there is no FOV or Mapping.. and instead of Orientation I have Reorient... also the video on the screen looks like an unwrapped 360 screen.. if that makes sense. I am so lost lol
