This is a really good idea! For the first way you could also do it this way if you really want to slow down the footage, i would lift the clip from the timeline i think the command is alt+command+up, slow it down, trim it to the original lenght and then bring it back into the timeline alt+command+down
You’re video actually gave me the confidence to try this when I’ve been nervous about it. I worked in news editing for so long I forgot how to edit fun stuff and these techniques gave me just what I needed to get it done! Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for sharing two ways to edit efficiently to the beat. While I have been using Final Cut Pro X for a couple of years now, I have been "winging it." During this quarantine time, I have been trying to learn some of those effective and useful basics, so that we can uplevel our music video production. Your videos help with that immensely! Thanks. :)
Awesome to hear! Sound like you are making the best of the situation, and I’m glad my video has helped you learn! Thanks for watching and happy editing! 👍🙏😎
Good tips of the background part I usually just cut the video to The beat when the video is already in the library but this way looks faster it’s like a plug and play a drop in almost so thank you!
I have been looking for the info for a while and this is the most informative video I have seen, regardless of views count. Very well explained!! A++ Thank you. The only thing is, I need to manage the out point as well, so I guess I need to go clip by clip and make sure it cuts and blends in nicely with the music. Markers are more natural for me as it goes back to days when we wrote time codes down for editors. "Feeling the music" is right on, well said! This is SO true.
@@WillChidlow watched your video again, needed some reminders and I have got a question for you. How do you like using touch pad instead of the mouse? Why did you choose the pad? Thanks.
still relevant. this tutorial was exactly what i needed. i find your vids informative and entertaining, a nice can-do vibe. thank you for the effort and the sharing. thumbs up.
Thanks again Will, great tip. I was not aware the Markers are this powerful. I'll be trying this today. I recorded a "Sweet 16 BD PARTY. Now I can add this to my arsenal. 👊😄
You are very welcome Allan! So glad you are finding my content helpful. Let me know if there are other topics you’d like to see tutorials about, I’m always adding ideas to my video list 👍👍
Excellent tutorial. Thanks! I was actually still debating if I should invest into Final Cut Pro or edit with iMovie for now, but the more I see of FCP, the more I like it. :)
Thanks for the explanation. Looks like you have a music background. In other videos they didn't mention if they cut on bassdrum & snare, some did only cut on the bassdrum. I also think you can do both. If the beat is quite quick it's hard to find the best point for a cut because you have so many options... :D
These are neat tricks; I wish audio editing in final cut was more powerful, would be pretty cool if they could incorporate a leaned out version of logic in final cut. Cutting video to music is a breeze, but cutting music to video is pretty inflexible in final cut.
I totally agree! I get by but you you are so right. I guess they just want us to buy logic for any audio heavy lifting 😂 thanks for watching and commenting 😎👍
Good question! To do this I would just duplicate the project just before starting to drop my clips into the timeline. This way you would have the track with the markers rewady for your next project. Just duplicate the project each time before you use it to keep a clean version for next time. hope that helps! many thanks 🙏👍😎
I started with your option 2 but now I mainly use option 1 but I have a question: when I put already I and O and put the clip into my timeline - how can I shift left or right the clip, i.e. I want 1s earlier or 1s longer - do I have to insert the proper clip again into timeline or there is a way of shifting right-left on the timeline itself? I am not sure if you got my point. thx
There is an option to make minor adjustments, I think you right click on the clip or double click the clip, I forget exactly but there is definitely an option to do just this
Okay when altering the clip to fit with the markers thats altering the length of the clip to fit, what if you want that clip in its entirety but want to speed it up or slow it down to make it fit
What if the clip you bring down you rather have like 2 seconds before or after...is there an easy way to adjust it since were only taking like 2 seconds clips each times sometimes less
Fantastic - I have been M-ing the music file and snapping to the marks. It's OK but your first method is better for sure. Oh - that's your second method :-)
Awesome video, just happened by this. Will I wanted to ask you what macbook you’re using for your FCP edits and whether you’ve found it can cope with H.265? My particular macbook pro can’t even play these files back as it’s quite old now 😭
Hi Ray 👋 thanks for watching! I’m using an late 2015 MBP with i7 and 16gb ram and 512gb SSD. It copes fine with most footage but I have to work with proxy files for anything 4K. The only H265 footage Ive worked with from my iPhone and also 4K so I’ve always assumed that it is the resolution rather than the codec that is the issue but perhaps you are right and the codec is not that great 🤔 either way if you create proxy media I think you will see a big improvement in Final Cuts performance. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and happy editing! 🙏😎👍
Hi Man, So I put a solid custom layer and cut into it. IT is really nice system but how to do it if you want the video slow mo. I add the video and selected replace from start but when I slow it down it messed up the cut to the beat...
Hi 👋 thanks for watching! Yeah that happens, if you want to use slow mo or speed ramps I suggest you use the second method I show in the video, hope that helps! 👍🙌🙏💪😎
Hi Kal, thanks for watching! 👍 I use photoshop to make my thumbnails and google fonts is an excellent resource for good free fonts. Hope that helps, thanks again for watching 👍
I've been manually lengthening/shortening each of my clips to the sound of the song I'm using (it has QUICK beats), and it's been a nightmare! Had no idea about using Blade or Markers whilst the song was playing - BIG HELP!
Hi friend! Thanks for watching and commenting! Good question... I’d suggest using the second method I show in the video and then using the region selector to select part of your clip you want to speed up or slow down, this way you can easily adjust each ramp to still hit on a desired beat. I’ll put this question on my ideas list and can maybe do another video to show how to do it. Many thanks 🙏 and happy editing!
I will wait for this tutorial with impatience. The problem is that the clip changes its length and it is very difficult to adjust for music bit. Be a friend, write in this comment when the tutorial comes out. Thank you. And yes, greetings from Russia)))
Yes you are right, this is where the region selection tool allows you to adjust the start/end point of the ramp to match the music 👍 I will let you know when I post a video about it. Thanks again for watching 🙏
I essentially do this same thing, but when I export the cuts to the beat are no longer lined up to the beat. Anyone else have that issue? How do you fix it?
