I’m sorry! Here are some things I forgot to mention: - Trying out a new method of drawing is often very challenging and difficult. So it can happen that in your first couple tries it might not go as you expect. But maybe you start liking it as you practice more! It’s never bad to try something new. and remember to have fun! - About “copying” someone else’s art style: nobody wants to be labeled a mere copy-cat or rip off of someone else. You can incorporate a couple aspects you like about it (instead of the whole art style) in your drawing or try adding your own twist into it. But I also advise you to study more than 1 artist and base your own art style on a combination of artists that you like. Instead of just one. - Use copy-study as a way for you to learn something new. Please DO NOT copy-study an illustration and then post it somewhere and claim it as your own. (Also some artists do not appreciate being copy studied at all, so even if you credit them, avoid posting unless you know they’re ok with it) Some things I didn’t mention in the video because I thought I’d be uninteresting to watch. But I should’ve mentioned some of this.😅 Mb You can ask me any other questions regarding this video in the comments!

Just a Random suggestion: for a better result, make the hair color of the character gear towards orangey/red because it complements well with a bright blue bg

Tracing art is a great way to learn that fledglings shouldn’t be ashamed of! The only mistake some people make is not making it clearer when they have copied an artist’s work. Either not posting it online, or posting it with the image(s) that you used for reference is the way to go 💛

Since she likes to use a lot of warm colors. I would change black to brown. whenever there is a black color I always pick brown instead and let the rendering do the illusion that the color scheme makes it look like the color black. (color theory lol). I don't use any fancy blending modes either in the process like shading. I'll only use it to make effects like shadow, bright light, and color atmosphere (It's like making a filter to blend and harmonize all the colors of the illustration) I have got rid of my habit using 100+ layers and now I'm just using 10-15 layers (I color and render in 1 layer. Less is more and it is also a bad habit to have a lot of layers or else you'll get confuse and that is how you make things hard for yourself). When coloring skin I would start on pale orange and use orange for shadows or warm orange hue yellow for the skin and use orange again for the shadows. I also realized and learn this myself that it is better to color base everything like some shadows and lighting (don't depend much in blending modes Only use them for overall effects or some effects that needed it but don't use it when you shade. So probably you'll have to train yourself to be good at coloring)
@canyouthefandango3220
@canyouthefandango3220 Год назад
To understand Color theory on your own because it really depends in your artstyle. My color palette is aesthetic colors mostly dark and unsaturated. Skin is always gonna be orange to have this aesthetic effect (Not total orange but the hue I mean XD) Color harmony is just putting gray colors together like pink's and green's gray color. The Gray color or the dullness of the color harmonize because both colors because both are pale. If you use saturated color then it won't harmonize. The black and white of the colors is really cool! It's a cool way to make your art more interesting. For example I out tone and unsaturated blue so the color tone of the blue is dark or black so it means I can use the color blue for shadows. If I out tone yellow the results will be white or light gray so it means yellow can be used for lighting. This is how you know what bunch of colors you can use for shading. So warmer colors are for lighting and cooler tones are for shadows. As long you have a color palette, color combinations, and color psychology you'll be able to have more fun.
@JyunaYT
@JyunaYT Год назад
Nice! I started out with a bunch of layers cuz that’s what I THOUGHT she drew like but I was dying a little bit inside with the amount of layers 😂 later on I saved it on a folder as a “save point” in case I needed it for the video but I used it as if it was a single layer. And you’re right! I should change black to brown in the final illustration that I’ll post on IG! Thank you!! 💚💚☺️

one general rule of thumb i feel like is to identify the focus of an artwork when you are studying other artists. if the colors take all the focus then most likely they didn't spend too much on line art if at all. vice versa.

Your drawing is wayyyyy more vibrant afterwards, good job !! One thing I like to do because I'm easily overwhelmed by studies is taking only a little piece of the illustration I want to study (let's say one eye or one hand, some accessories, idk). It also makes the process easier for me : when I'm looking at the entire piece with the composition, colors and stuff and can't focus on what's important to me, I tend to think I can't do it and start to feel bad. Your video actually helped me feeling a little better, thank you for that !

The artstyle you're to learn looks great and amazing keep it up 🙏🙏🙏💗💗 Here are a few ( sorry if this you already knew it already): Most artist use sketches and then render and some straight using blocks of colors then refine later Usually we do it messy so there will be texture or color variations to make it more unique, we render on top of everything Now about the one with blocks of color, really i mostly do is put colours in and then try to sculpt it as you go. I don't really recommend this technique unless you wish to challenge your self and already learn anatomy and etc etc because doing this process requires you to already know what the piece to look like in the end

This is a very informative and high quality video! 👍Copying is a valuable but difficult learning method. I copy a lot, although usually not the fully rendered pieces, as that's a ton of work. 😅 I find it much easier to keep the painting together if I draw the lineart, but it's like you said: cleaned up lineart takes a lot of time and correcting mistakes requires a lot of effort once you're well into shading (the more layers you have, the worse it is naturally). I also think it's very difficult to notice mistakes at sketch/lineart phase, which makes this technique all the more interesting to try.
@JyunaYT
@JyunaYT Год назад
that's one of the reasons I only copy studied a tiny section of ASK's piece haha otherwise I'd have to take like 10 hours instead of 2-3 to study that one piece 💀 I hope that trying out without lineart suits you well! if it doesn't, it's also fine! there's a million different paths you can take to get to the same result 😊💚 have fun studying!! i’ve been having a really hard time lately studying my favorite artist. her name is matcha (she draws a lot of vocaloid) she has this grainy-like style that also has a lot of texture to it, which can be VERY confusing at times! and she’s kind of a hidden artist, like she doesn’t have any speedpaints or much to work with except her finished pieces (which are super super detailed) this tutorial was really helpful to me, so thank you!

Wooow matcha is so talented! I just started following her thanks to you haha Well, if you want some advice, since there’s so many details on her pieces, I’d pick a small section of it (the face, for example) and try to replicate it instead of the whole piece. Then you can escalate it once you find her secrets little by little haha good luck and have fun practicing! 💚💚

I have been searching for hours on RU-vid to figure out if I am creating my new characters in the wrong way and I don't think a video on the topic that I am looking for exists, so I'll just leave this here because I would really love some feedback. I am working on this project that I am very passionate about and I have just begun to start drafting the characters I have created. Two of these characters are heavily inspired by Under Night In Birth when it comes to it's art style. I just think the artwork is phenomenal and it has been the main inspiration with not only my drawings, but also the stories I have been writing as well. Here lies the problem that I can't seem to find a good answer to online. My main character's design was inspired by Hyde in that game. His clothing is different, the story centered around him is different which I am completely in love with...but then when I start working on the hair, I get panic attacks. This probably sounds super dumb, but I want my character to be blonde and my fear is that I could get in trouble because his hair looks too similar to Hydes, but at the same time. How many ways can you really draw spikey, blond hair? You know what I mean? To change his blonde hair to something else would mean I would have to rework the whole design. I guess I'm trying to figure out where that line is. Like, if using a color/hair style can be seen as plagiarism which is not what I want. So yeah, that's my dilemma, any advice would be extremely helpful because there seems to be no videos on the topic. Thank you! :)
@Trishpaytaxes
@Trishpaytaxes 4 месяца назад
There are many characters with blond hair, there are many characters with spiky hair, there are many characters with blond and spiky hair. It doesn't matter if your character has a few similarities with another, as long as it has enough differences to balance it out. It's impossible to be completely original anyway when there are millions of artists out there, so do whatever you want! That's the fun part. But if you still aren't able to tell whether or not they look too similar on your own, you can always make a post about it with images of the two characters and ask what people think. Hope this helps c:

@@Trishpaytaxes Thank you so much! This does help me out a great deal. What's funny is a day after I posted this, I came up with my own solution to the problem and decided to use a blonde color in a different shade. It strangely hit me where I was like "Oh yeah, I can do that. There are thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of different colors" and there are a ton of shades for just "basic yellow or blonde." I really started to try to advance my art as of last year so a lot of stuff like this flies over my head sometimes, it's kind of crazy actually. Again, thank you. I appreciate your feedback :)

Love the video! I've been trying to do more studies recently but I'm struggling to actually translate their image onto the paper, and I'm feeling kinda stuck drawing pictionary quality trash a lot of the time, as well as with the whole digital workflow as well 😅

Great editing and video, you've achieved a new subscriber! Also nice drawings, they're so cool! I've got a question: I've already tried to do a copy study but copying a digital artwork on paper is actually harder then I expected (probably because I'm still new to drawing). Have you got some tips for turning them better? I'm sorry if there are some grammatical error but I'm italian!

Hii!! It’s always nice knowing where my viewers are from haha 😊💚 welcome to the channel!! So, I’ve done this before and if you wanna compare your lineart or sketch with the piece that you chose from your favorite artist, you could either get a bigger screen, place the image u chose and put your drawing on the screen on top of the original. Then check for anatomy issues. And correct it (with a colored pencil or normal one). Or take a picture of your drawing and compare it to the original by putting it on a photo editing app or drawing program and lowering the opacity. But I think this last one has way too many steps haha Anyways, good luck and have fun with your study! Nothing should stop you from wanting to learn :D

Oh yeah guys remember to look away when you feel like you have been looking into your reference or your art for too long because a visual effect will happen and you will find situations like “coming back from a milk break and see your masterpiece became a piece of trash”

does anyone know what you could do if the artist you wish to copy-study is digital but you draw traditionally? i cant do digital as i have no such resources but im afraid a copy-study wont work with two different mediums.
@JyunaYT
@JyunaYT 9 месяцев назад
Oooooo I didn’t think about this 🤔 hmm there’s definitely some limitations to what you can do traditionally compared to digital. Just keep in mind that it won’t look the exact same, and that’s okay! especially with the colors. but don’t be discouraged! you can always practice the style, the lines and stuff! I’m sure it’ll be lots of fun!! ☺️💚💚💚

I’m curious how you think about copying a certain artists style. Should you credit them? Or let them know first? I love certain drawing styles but every time I copy them it feels like I’m plagiarizing 😭

I also loves how ask colours the hair of each characters QAQ however I would say ask seems to be first using a soft air brush to paint the whole area of the shadow part and refine them bit by bit. U can see for the edges of the shadow they r soft, how ever hard brushes r also used for some areas such as the shadows in the shadow, also usually ask wun use a very highly saturated colour for the lighting(itz more “white”) and even if it has to be saturated it should be standing out from the base colour and either blend it completely (like not u can see itz a stroke) or use a hard brush (as I observed on other artists too:;;) (I’m not a great artist or sth but ya here r my humble opinion I like dis vid tbh cuz I’m also trying to learn how to colour the hair like ask xd But I’d say some theory of lightings and colouring r needed or else u wun understand why ask’s hair is so shiny (basically the reflections))
