I just upgraded to the betts Mullet net and watched this video to get some shad at Craig’s creek and it worked out great. I have been using a 5-6ft net and the way I was throwing it was never gonna work with this new net. Thanks man
I’ve watched a lot of cast net videos on RU-vid...yours is the only one I can recall done with a portion recorded from the throwers point of view, good idea!
Thank You so very much showing your subscribers how to throw the net. I really wanted to learn how to throw the net. I have a 5 foot net and a 8 foot net also and I’m so glad you showed this video. Great job and thank you.
I love everything you do on your channel....except how you throw a net....LOL!! You throw it great, amazingly well, but that technique made me make sure I had my rain suit handy before I started.....LOL!! Seriously, good video on cast nets....nice work.
@@hagengrubbsfishing that's how I throw my 8 foot net and I get soaking wet, but it's the only way I have found to get it to open consistently. I might have to do something different come cold weather.
Masterofnone I wear rubber bibs and a waterproof jacket in the winter just because of this technique. But they also keep me very warm because no air passes through. A good layer under the bibs and I stay warm. There are other ways to throw a net and stay dry but they wear me out after a few throws and then I start throwing tacos 🤣 I can throw my 10’ net all day using this technique without ever feeling it. Thanks for watching 👍
Brother you are doing a really good job with your channel, and your growing really fast considering you've only been doing it a year . But that's what happens when you really help ppl and your not just trying to be famous lol .
Thanks for the kind words. I never really thought anyone would watch my stuff. I just fish so much I figured I’d give it a shot. I’ve always enjoyed making videos. I even had a channel back in my teenage years. Thanks for watching brother👍
Just stepped up from a 6’ betts 3/8” mesh Walmart net to a baitbuster 1/2” mesh 1,5lbs per foot net. Fairly easy to throw but trying a few different techniques for throwing it since it’s heavy as crap. I watched this video before but I wanted to see it again and try a couple things that you do. Great info, thanks brother🤙🏻
Great demonstration! Only thing I would add is don’t make a death noose on your wrist in a moving boat especially if over cold water with a bunch of clothes on.
awesome explanation on throwing a cast net! I have to get me one soon and learn. I tried a used 10 or 12 foot one that was wore out missing weights and had horrible experience ( before i knew about cast nets lol) im wanting one smaller one for creek throwing and one decent sized for the good ol ky river
Same way I do mine. Also another way to save your shoulder muscles from holding the weight even up off the ground. Is to do your spread on the deck of your boat instead of over your leg so that way you're never holding the lead up until you're ready to stand up and throw. Or if you're doing it from the bank drag your piles of lead over on the ground and reach down with your pinky and grab it and pick it up off the ground or off the dock
Awesome stuff brother! We can only use 5' in Ohio but once I get to the river game on! I have yet to attempt a 10' but I'm about to. I love me some big ol shad! I have not seen your technique before so I plan on giving it a shot! Thanks for sharing!
I saved this video and here in a week or so I will click on the link in the description to buy this net; hopefully you get some kind of kickback for selling something off your channel.
I agree that the Betts Super Pros or Menhaden nets are a good starting point with price vs. quality. But, there are better nets which cost more. The trouble is you begin to dismiss good bait when there's a stick showing up on down imaging in fear of ruining a nice net. I pulled up a 16' tree with my Barracuda net a couple weeks ago. Had to brace one foot on the gunnel and pull with everything I had but the net survived with only a couple small holes. That would have shredded one of my cheaper nets.
Stephen Corley kind of hard to put into words but just a slight upward motion and just let the net do the rest. If it’s loaded right it should pop open. It took me a few tries to get the release right but for me it was a lot less complicated than many other techniques that I tried. Good luck and good fishing. Thanks for watching.
Great videos bro! I saw one you put out last may on the ky river. Lockport area. You live in that area? I’m looking to buy some land in ky. I’m considering the Carrollton area. It’s right where the Ohio and ky rivers meet. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I live in central Kentucky and I fish the majority of the Kentucky river. I also fish carrolton a lot in the winter. There’s some deep water around there and some good fishing. Thanks for watching.
Most of the time I let it hit the bottom to pin the bait down before I close the net. The only time I don’t is if I’m in really deep water, or if there is a nasty bottom where I might get snagged and damage my net. I hope this answers your question and thank you for watching
