How to electric start a Firman 9400 Duel fuel generator when using gasoline as fuel Turn the duel fuel indicator to gas, red light should come on and be solid, Turn to choke, press start button for 3 seconds, then turn yellow from choke to run asap, Next you can plug in your appliances, DON'T PLUG THE GENERATOR INTO A HOUSE WALL SOCKET OR PLUG!!!! DANGEROUS Don't PLUG ANYTHING INTO THE GENERATOR UNTIL THE GENERATOR IS RUNNING AND UNPLUG EVERYTHING BEFORE U TURN IT OFF DON'T USE INDOORS OR IN YOUR GARAGE MUST BE OUT IN OPEN SPACE the fumes will kill you so have it far way from anyplace the gas fumes could accumulate THESE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS IF NOT USED PROPERLY!!!

I just got my 1st generator a few weeks ago... I am clueless regarding generators, engines, etc. Never even use a power mower before. Just want to say that my experience with Firman customer service has been pretty good. I've called at least 10 times (installing high altitude kit, etc.) and there are no long holds, everyone is clearly American, and if you get someone who seems unable to help you, call back, and you'll probably get someone more on your wave-length who can. They are located in AZ. Not perfect, but WAY better than most!

You have to connect the battery to the starter by cutting the zip tie because they do not ship the unit already connected.

Did you turn the selection knob to LP which is to the left a 180 degrees ? Is your LP canister valve open?

Try turning choke off as fast as you can. I was having the same problem at first

@@ernestwalden3894 Me, too. Read somewhere that you don't need the choke with propane. But, seems like you do need it for a second. My mixture is already rich at start due to high altitude. Every time I start it I have very little confidence and like I just have to guess what to do and fiddle around until something works.

there's a better way to stop it will make the carburetor last longer. you shut the fuel off not the generator itself if there's fuel sitting in the carb it will not last as long. also don't get water in the tank it is bad for the carb.

Yep I tested it right before the hurricane was coming just to make sure that it was working and everything works perfectly

I bought mine 2yr ago before storm hit. Since then i'd start it every so often. No problems. Now, it wont turn over. I checked oil, everything same. What could be problem? Any help is appreciated.

Are you pole starting yet or trying to start it with a battery every year I take my battery off and charge it so that it’s got a full charge and then try to electric start it only thing that I can think of is that you may have a vapor lock so that the gas isn’t going through so what you could do is try starting it with LP and see if that works

@@TomLeeman i never thought about charging battery! (Dumb on me!) What do you mean by "pole starting"? How do i go about the "vapor lock" if thats a problem also?

@@TomLeeman this might be a dumb question but, how do i charge that battery? By car with jump cables or a type of charger?

@@roseorchid7981 you can get a cheap charger at Walmart for about 12 bucks and I would do that first charge up the battery and then reinstall it and try using that electric start. That way you won’t pull your arm out then if that doesn’t work get some LP gas and hook that up and see if that will work and if it starts on that then you know somethings going on with the gas flow from the other side and if you’re using the gas just make sure that you’ve got the valve completely open. Otherwise it won’t get through sometimes it won’t start because it gets too flooded. Also all right good luck thanks for watching.

I put the fuel selector to gas, did not start. Put it to propane, did not start. But now I cannot put the fuel selector back to OFF, or set it to gas! it's stuck in propane. Any idea?

So you can’t twist it back, that sounds like a defect, you may have to take this one back and get your money returned good luck thanks for watching

@@TomLeeman thanks! I was able to move it back to gas mode. It's an intermittent problem. Maybe related to being frozen? I put the generator inside to unfreeze it. Could not start it in either gas or propane mode, there was not gas getting in the piston chamber. Defect or frozen lines? I'll see today.

You could try just calling the company and I believe they’re somewhere in Arizona and seeing if you could get the part

There us a serious defect with this generator- Electric Start. I am sorry I purchased it, and the Customer Service is terrible. Brand new snd stopped working. Bought it at Cosco. So sorry I bought this generator.

Correction: There is a Defect with Electric Start. I have to pull the cord to get it to start: defeats the purchase. I want a Refund.

@@TomLeeman turned out the battery was dead when I tested it. Left it on a trickle over night and it started! Glad I found your video so I could see the actual behavior when working properly. 👍

A disgrace of a cheap machine from ferman...shame on you, i spent $1000. Used it 6 times in 3 years. Now the starter switch has failed... $30 from firman...thanks...a button that was pushed 6 times...wow!

So my generator is a Firman Dual fuel and after a test run the selector switch got jammed in the LP position. Is there a way to fix that?

I think I would take it back to where you purchased it and try to get a refund if you can I’ve been getting a lot of feedback on the generator and many people are not happy with it Good luck and thanks for watching the video
