Have you tried color printing while also embossing? I did and it turns out that it wasn't working! I figured I'd share it with everyone to see if it could help any of you to have better success.
I had been asked recently to print a Nintendo Logo Plaque for a Friend, and he asked if I could also emboss it. I thought that it might not look great, but I said I'd give it a try. At the time I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I could have just printed it flat and have been done with it, but no, I was over-confident and had to find a way to make it work. This video goes through a whole bunch of options for getting this look, some are good options, some are not.
I hope some of these ideas are helpful, I would also hope that Bambu Studio continues to add features to make bridging better, at the moment we can only control a few settings, but having control over the layers above would also be super handy.

Print inlays separately. They press fit nicely. No glue needed. Perfect surface finish.

Use PETG as support and remove the top layer gap for the support. From 0.2 to 0.

a trick I have used is pre printing the support. Then pausing the print to insert the preprinted support. That was a long time ago prior to the X1C. an idea is to model the support maybe give it ironing, and a different material. Then on the main part let it bridge. With the right 3 materials (2 for the part and one support) that the main material doesn't stick to the support, you could get some squish to the upper layer. Adjusting the settings to optimize the top of the "support" with the right material and settings it could be good results. not your standard bridge.

I think you may be onto something there with the ironing, I'll give this a go tonight. I think if I were to Iron the supports, with a zero tolerance, it might just work. This might be the simplest method to get really smooth embossing face down!

@RobertONeillPhotos 11 месяцев назад
@@NeedItMakeIt I have not seen a setting for ironing the support, But. if you model the support and apply settings to that object. You can apply all the settings. The big advantagle is the interface can be 3d. not just 2D.

That's a great point, I believe that Cura has this built-in, but I wonder if PrusaSlicer or BambuStudio have it. I shall have another look. Thanks!

I’m going to test it but I imagine using Bambu’s support W material for interface layers could be a slightly better result

Another trick I have used for the Debossed area is inserting a different sheet. I have inserted paper in the middle of a part. There is a thermal expansion problem that might need to be addressed.
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 11 месяцев назад
When you do that, do you need to use some kind of adhesive?
@RobertONeillPhotos
@RobertONeillPhotos 11 месяцев назад
@@NeedItMakeIt There was two issues 1 was thermal expansion of the paper. I printed directly on the paper and the print cooled and shank it warped. the printed frame was not strong enough to shrink the paper cardboard. The other is the first layer above the insert needs to not catch on the edge of the insert. Can use adhesive. My case I just gave it a little extra space for the insert. The "sag" of the bridged material secured the insert. Could insert something like plexiglass. I have inserted metal. and used glue stick to avoid the "bridge" from drifting.

How about using PVA water soluble filament for the embossing? Or HIPS

It could give a nice looks, maybe use supports with a solid and flat top surface, I have some I've been waiting to try out, a good excuse! Thanks!

You've figured this out I assume, but you want to print with the embossing away from the plate, not against it. If you're still looking for ironing settings, let me know. I do this constantly for my small business and have decent settings. Someone mistook some of my stuff for resin once!

Hello friend, I just have a question. honestly, there are tiny particles in all the prints I make with my printer, and no matter what I do, I can't solve them . What do you think is the fastest way to solve this?
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 11 месяцев назад
That is certainly strange. There are some filaments with particles in them, they are 'stone' look or ' cookie dough' type filaments. Are you able to have a look at your spool and tell me the color information? If it is just ordinary filament, there isn't a good reason that comes to mind. It is possible that the specs are small bubbles, if the surface is rough, that would be bubbles and it would be time to dry your filament. Let me know and I'll see what I can do to help!

Well, let me take you on a journey to my 3D printing escapades circa 2013, and trust me, I've got some nuggets of wisdom to share. If you're not on a mission to meld two distinct materials, like creating a flexible hinge or something equally exotic, then these multi-material techniques might as well be a filament-fueled time warp. You see, 3D printers, much like any CNC machine, wield two formidable powers: precision and reliability. Why not harness these powers to the fullest? It's as simple as printing each part in a single, solid color and then joining them together with a touch of adhesive magic. Add in a bit of forgiveness with a smart draft angle, along with some clever alignment pins or tabs, and presto! You've concocted an assembly process that's not only straightforward but also a filament-saving, time-trimming masterpiece. 🚀💡

that is definate way to do the same. What I find useful is different ways to do the same thing. Understanding the ramifications of each, then you can choose the best for all the givens. multi part works great. especially if the Insert is not flat.

@thehangardesigns 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, this is what I do, but there’s definitely some work on the front end with the design to offset faces for a tolerance. Much cleaner result, less waste.
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 11 месяцев назад
Tried and true, for sure a good way to go. This all came about because I had someone who wanted an embossed logo and I was a bit over-confident to say the least. It didn't go quite as planned, but with a bit of work we got there in the end and he was super happy with the result. I ended up giving him a flush version with color, and embossed, he preferred the embossed, the depth adds something, a bit of a higher quality look I suppose.

Good to know, I still have a lot to learn about these techniques, ever situation is a little different as well so use the best one for each case is a great way to go about it.

Which software do you use to offset? I've just started to experiment with Blender, but I am such a noob at it , though I was able to create a nice looking 3d printed head on my first attempt, as far as offsetting, I doubt Blender is the way to go.
