How To Enable Cookies On Chrome
In this quick tech how-to video, I’m going to show you where to go inside of the Google Chrome browser in order to enable or block cookies from different websites. I’m going to be going through this on the Mac version of Chrome, but the process is the same for Windows.
To get to the cookie’s settings, open Chrome, and at the far top right of the browser window, select the three-dot menu button next to your profile image. In the drop-down menu, choose Settings. You can also get there by choosing Chrome from the top menu and choosing Preferences on Mac.
Once inside of the Settings menu, scroll down to the Privacy and Security section and choose Cookies and other site data.
In here is where you’ll find your browser cookie settings. The top option is to allow all cookies from every site. This is nice because it can help pick up where you left off on a site, load items quicker, personalize ads, and remember saved input.
The next option is what I personally use. This blocks third-party cookies while in incognito mode. This will allow cookies when I’m browsing normally, but if I open a private tab, it will block certain cookies in there.
After that, you have the options to block third-party cookies in all tabs, private or not, and finally the option to block all cookies.
Another nice feature that you may want to enable, say if you share a computer with people, is Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome. This does exactly what it says, clears your data when you close the browser.
Next, you have the option to send a do not track request. This doesn’t do much personally, because sites all respond differently to this. You’re still going to get ads and they’re still going to use your browsing as data for themselves.
And finally, you can preload pages to allow faster loading. This just sets things up in the background to hopefully speed up your browsing.
Once you make your changes, close Chrome and reopen, and you’re good to go.
