Thank you for this beautiful, well-explained video; I am taking my A+ 1002 exam next week, and I was looking for a good explanation of EFS encryption; I came across your video. It is phenomenal. God bless you keep up the good work.
Thanks for the info. Questions: 1. Is it possible to add additional file to a folder after it has been encrypted? 2. Can this encrypted file be send to “one drive” ? If possible/yes, will the file remain encrypted when send to “One drive” ? Thanks
You're able to add another file/folder into an encrypted folder but you have to know the password, then you're able to edit the file since you have administrator on. Second question : yes, you can put encrypted files into other hard drives such as usb but even on a second computer, you'll still need the password THE ENCRYPTED FILES WON'T WORK ON OTHER OS. if you encrypted something on lets say : Windows 10, Mac or linux may even br unable to recognise the file type
Very interesting, thanks a lot to share. A little doubt ... Its possible to encrypt a folder or a file and distribute it to external user with a certificate ?
Could be but it is a hassle for the user to import the certificate. Why don't you zip the file or folder with a strong password and text the receiving party the pwd?
I just tried this with the cloud solution "Hidrive". The file was encrypted on my PC, but on my husband's PC I could open the file just fine. I assume that its not the file that is encrypted, but the access? Because if the file was encrypted, it should not be possible to open it anywhere, right?! Makes me wonder what happens if someone took out my hard drive and took the file from there.
@@KnowledgeSharingTech for "static" folders that might work fine, but I am looking for a solution that lets me work on files (e.g. contracts) together with the coworkers that are supposed to have access to it, but lock other coworkers and hackers out, zipping und unzipping folders does not work with that
@@happytofu5 probably your TPM is not activated in the BIOS setting, double-check in your BIOS security settings to see if your TPM is active, if not active then activate the TPM and try again to see the result, but there are other ways of encryption as well, try to use Bitlocker with TPM enabled. let me know about it if it worked for you after enabling the TPM in your BIOS.
I encrypted a file (I can see the lock), but I never got a key, how come? EFS is enabled, however in the registry I realised the following key for Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem "NtfsDisableEncryption" DWORD is set to 0. Does it need to be set to 1?
Hello got a question, i did enable encryption but did not click on the pop up, I never got the option to put the password on because i clicked never backup. how do i get the option to put the password up? its just a test i did no important files.
What if I install a new windows and I don't have the certificate and the key can you have a solution for this case .. I don't have a backup from my old windows only I have a backup from my files I encrypted before and it was encrypted
What I was searching for is a way to password protected files such that everyone has to enter password to open the files and can lock them back after using them. I want the functionality of Solid Explorer .sec files but without creating a duplicate file that is encrypted but instead directly encrypting the original files. Is there any file manager application for Windows that does that?
All my deleted files were recovered as I was recommended to jefftech_cyber via Instagram he is a genius and he help decrypt my files and recovered them
I have folder which is encrypted, I added users and give them access/permission to the encrypted folder. However the user can open the folder but not files, it says you don't have permission to open this file.
@@KnowledgeSharingTech yes, on android I use to encrypt folder and change the name of the contents. is there any way to do so in windows? A video would be great on it :)
when i encrypt a file or folder, i don't have the message for certificate (recomendation) and to set up a password, just the locker showing up. Is there a problem with my EFS ? I use wijndows 10 Pro ?!?!
Hi, thanks for the video. I have moved data to new pc which was encryoted in a another pc before. Now could I not able to open the data in new pc or descipt files. Even though I tried same procedure as this video. Could you please suggest me how to access the data?
@@KnowledgeSharingTech sir, I had pictures I had saved on a previous work computer that I turned in when I resigned from job. I backed them up to my storage device only now realizing I can’t open them. Is there a work around for this? I guess because they were saved on another pc, I can’t get them open now
This is normal behavior, this method is only to encrypt files on the same Windows installation. Once you copy them to another installation, they are decrypted automatically if you perform the copy with the same user that you used to encrypt them.
@@KnowledgeSharingTech Okay, I want to encrypt files that should run only on my laptop if someone wants to steal or copy files it should be decrypted only by my private key
I encrypted a file on my pc, but when I saved the file on an external hard drive (after encryption), I had no problems opening it on another account. I suspect that its not the file that gets encrypted, but the access on the user account. P.S.: I did some tests and apparently, copy + pasting the encrypted folder with hand leads to the folder staying encrypted, but moving it to the hard drive with the backup tool sync toy leads to the result that the folder is no longer encrypted, I can open it without problems from another account, its super strange. I am really shocked that a backup tool messes with the encryption, because it basically means someone can remove the encryption just by making a backup, what the heck?!
