Ever wanted to learn how to do a endo or stoppy, or even a pivot turn on your front wheel? This can be very useful on a trail, especially in tight switchbacks or just to show off. Hans will teach you how to become one with your bike and how to even do a 180 turn and a nosewheelie. Check out other episodes of his Tips & Tricks series.

I'm determined to learn this now. This is the first time I've heard it explained in a way that makes sense. Thank you!

Very cool that you use both MTB and e-MTB in your tutorials.

I have a not so crappy anymore, but still old, 2004 cross country hardtail, that I want to endo and do 180's on. I guess what has sabotaged me, is having a too short stem with that steep head angle. Because that short stem pushes too much weight backwards , while the timeframe for doing it has become smaller due to a shorter reach. So, I'll get a 70 mm stem for wider handlebars and retry it. You are the hero Hans and thanks for your videos!

The knee pads are useful too, yes? You seem to use them to pull the bike around....

Great vid Hans. When doing front pivots I always tend to over rotate and end up having to put the outside foot down to catch it. Any tips?
@Hansnowayrey
@Hansnowayrey 3 года назад
hard to say, but it can be bad news on a tight steep switchback. Perhaps try to first get the height (get the rear wheel straight up), then give it a little push with your hips and feet to indicate the direction and just let it fall into place..... keep playing around and trying. You might learn a lot if you try it 10 times in a row, try to analyse what you do different to pin point the way it works best.

Also... (in a safe(r) place) *PRACTICE* Various Initiation Strategies to *'TRY'* to accomplish what you want (and what you do not want)... so that you end up getting a better idea of *What WORKS* (and Does NOT) for you... Sometimes intentionally doing it 'wrong' reinforces what is wrong about it, or (re)educates your awareness of what is better... RandomThought as an example (probably not entirely accurate, yet might give you an idea of how *TryEverything and PayAttention* might be beneficial); 'Throwing' your left shoulder left - into a (turn left/swing tail right) 180° *might* inadvertently help you thrust your buttocks *right* to help the bike tail swing... yet still 'balances' your weight over the center of mass (bike&body)... Or... ... perhaps 'coasting' the front wheel a few inches while swinging tail might allow the front wheel to 'counter' the over-rotating body above the (slightly) repositioned bike... Or... *just keep trying (slightly) different things until you chance upon techniques that work better for you...* Hans NoWay Rey has more *Days* of 'experimentation' and practice than I have hours on a bicycle... I can do these 180°s and Wheelie (almost) Forever... Yet I have not (invested the time to have) 'Mastered' Front or RearWheel *Hopping*, nor 'brakeless' *Mono* Wheelies (without pedaling)... Time... MUCH Practice...

@@Hansnowayrey Thanks for the tips! I’ve had a play and I think it happens when my weight is too far back and creates too much momentum in the sideways swing. Following your tips and getting more over the bars has helped minimise it! Feels like I have more control now.

It's way easier on my trials bike. On modern trail bike geometry w/ a slack head tube, it seems impossible to get enough weight over the front wheel, and it ends up being a zero seventy.
@Hansnowayrey
@Hansnowayrey 3 года назад
That's very true, it's much easier on a trials bike, and therefore harder on a long, slack ebike with big wheels. It takes more effort on bigger bikes w more suspension, weight and slack
