Hi, could you clear my doubt. 1. What is different between optical flat and optical parallel? 2. What is the 4 set of optical parallel? What are the different between the 4 pieces? 3. Which one is right selection for micrometer anvil parallelism measurement?

what to do if we want to write or to record this information in work sheet or certificates ... parallelism for example you said 4 and 1 line the diferent is 3...But what is the maximun/minimun of line permitted

Is it necessary to use a monochromatic light with an optical flat for shop calibration?
@Drottninggatan2017

No. In the shop you simply use a standard.

Monochromatic light shows the fringes more sharply. Using white light from a fluorescent or LED source and wearing colored eyeglasses also will sharpen the fringes.

Please tell me about sine bar calibration... Roller diameter , length measurement between rollers . If possible post a video anyone.
@Dan007UT
@Dan007UT 6 лет назад
I normally measure the distance from the outer edge of 1 roll to the outer edge of the 2nd roll i.e A= 5.5in. then measure each roll individually B=1.0in C=1.0in. Then to get the center to center length you take A minus half of B, minus half of C.

Are you able to sandwich multiple optical parallels together to check the parallelism between two faces that are further away? eg on a 1-2" micrometer. Or do you have to use a longer optical parallel?
@OKmetrologist

Check it with a ball on a stick and gage block. Optical Parallels are very expensive and are never to be confused with an optical flat.

I thought you needed a single wavelength light to get the bands to show properly. Is there something different about the optical flat you guys used?
@billshiff2060

A special monochromatic light is desirable but not essential unless you are color blind. You can distinguish from lets say 1 green band to the next or from 1 red band to the next. Over all they don't vary that much and the straightness of 1 fringe is what you really want to know, any color.

what about over 1 inch mics? lets say i need to get parallelism on a pair of 8-9inch mics?
