Beautiful work. Most don't know the planning that goes into etching. I used to do this in the 90's as a side business. I didn't have a plotter, and cut everything with a swivel knife. That and weeding took forever, but the results were great. I also had a little Paasche abrasive airbrush to etch gradients and shadowing. I couldn't get enough people to want the product though in my area, so I let it go by the wayside. I like your specialized cabinet too.
Hi Arnold, thanks for your kind comment. I've been etching glass for 25 years, before I got my plotter I used to cut the templates by hand too. I'm very glad of modern technology to speed this process up. However, weeding still takes a very long time!
nice thing about the interwebs is you can reach thousands of potential clients. the problem with a lot of side gigs is the people wait around for work to come to them instead of going out and hustlin' (not that you did, it's just a general comment). then they don't have a legit business and treat it like a garage hobby. people actually still love this stuff, so i wonder if you got back into it you'd do better today....
@@thestainedleadedglasscompa3180 I'm just seeing this comment for the first time after three years because I was just notified of a new comment. Thank you for your reply.
I never get tired of watching this video. But I sure would love for you to comment on how to get the varying degrees of shading with this technique. I’m a newbie and I’d love some input.
Only watched 30 seconds n fell in love. As anRoyal Engineer Veteran i may have to surprise my wife n do our double glazing hahahaaa. Made it look so easy.
I did work like this but with more layers. What I used to get deep into the glass fast was aluminum oxide. For smooth fine details I like to use glass pearls/beads
THIS IS GORGEOUS!!! I absolutely am so intrigued and now need to learn how to sandblast, the ideas that are flooding my brain💛🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Thank You for this amazing video & inspo!
Work of art. People do appreciate this kind of work and the time that was punt into making something like this. This became my passion when I learned craft in middle school. Great work.!
If this were me, somewhere around the 2 minute mark -after all that work- I realize the blade needed changing, and tear tue stencil thinking a piece will come right off. Then pitch a fit and burn down the building. :::Sigh::: Artists...
Hi sir I am from india I have a question How to stick paper on glass thats know from to us please show this thing of sticking paper on glass. Please explain it sir🙏

Hello. I have a particular project. Looking for a 72 inches With by 22 inches Height and in the middle to say Solamente En DIOS Confiamos How can I get in touch with you? I am in Salt Lake city, Utah .....
You work with that powder gun like airbrush artists work, great fading nuances. Amazing crafts involved, my sincere compliments Sir. Amazing job. Could you tell me the type of vynil you work. Is it dificult to find it on europe online stores. Best regards
Hi Joao, thank you for your kind comment. We get our specialist sandblasting film from MDP Supplies, it's a UK based company. www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/sandblastingfilm.asp
hi, very impressive piece of art. The gradient achieved is by adjusting the thickness of abrasive flowing through gun? or is it in the design? very interested in knowing the technique. very well done sir, thanks in advance.
Hi Imran, Thank you for your kind comment. The effect is achieved by blasting more in the area you want to be most etched and blasting less in the area you want clearer. This creates the gradient effect. It's all done by careful use of the sand blasting gun and is planned into the design. I hope this is helpful.
My question is where did you buy the blasting cabinet? I have a similar one but would like to go bigger I like the way you can insert the glass in yours. Beautiful work!
Hello kkash72, thank you for your question. I modified the standard cabinet by cutting a slot in the side and the top and fitting brush seals, this was relatively easy to do. I hope this helps. Thank you for the kind comment.
Hi Don, thanks for your comment. The price depends on the size of the panel and the complexity of the design. If you are interested in an estimate feel free to send us an email. Find our details on our website linked in the description.
Wow, came across this video purely by accident. I had always assumed this process was done using a CAD and then CNC style machine start to finish, I had no idea this level of artistry was needed. Amazing work.
I am also an ex member of the Royal Engineers. This is a stunning piece of work :) How much would it cost to get a similar piece done? I produce paint masks for scale models and I would love to be able to paint my cap badge. Would you consider selling me the file for this? I have a plotter and use Coral Draw X6?
Miracle Paint Masks Hi, thanks for your great comments. If you could send me an email we can discuss your requirements. andrew@stainedleadedglass.co.uk
heh heh, i used to own a trophy/t-shirt shop. if i never weeded again i would be okay with that. this would take me most of ten minutes, but i've weeded... a lot. i never weeded blast resist, though. the ex did all the artwork, but seeing as how i don't do coreldraw i would have to outsource that -- certainly cheaper than RIP software and i'm not sitting for hours tracing outlines. fantastic results, looked very classy.
I do sandblasting but the delicate hands l don't have. I have slow down, want to move to fast slower is not my thing but l actually slower it down to carve. It's fun also love gold leafing too,
I see the home cricut machines are similar to this more larger industrial CNC machine but they all have similar weeding bottle necks in terms of mass production time. Don't get me wrong there great pieces of equipment
Interesting. I’m curious how you transferred the vinyl sticker to the pane of glass. Wouldn’t you lose all the cutouts when you peel the vinyl from its backing?
I would love to know what kind of resist you are using and sand grit for your blaster. I have been experimenting but my beginner pieces are looking aggressively blasted.
Hi, thank you for your comment. We get our specialist sandblasting film from MDP Supplies, it's a UK based company. www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/sandblastingfilm.asp, the blast medium we use is 60-80 grit Aluminium Oxide Abrasive.
Hi Joe, thank you for your comment and kind words. Sorry about the late reply.
