How to Exercise with Injuries

Here is a technique based on the concept of overlapping fitness, that I have used with many of my clients and the injured athletes I have worked with, which allows them do the work of healing, therapy and restoration while maintaining as much conditioning in the surrounding areas of the injury as possible.
Research suggests, and what I’ve found to be clinically accurate, is that there is a 30-degree window of strength carryover for any particular exercise. For example, whenever you're performing an exercise with a limited range of motion, you will find you gain strength about 15 degrees above and 15 degrees below the limited range you have worked.
In this video, I show you how to apply this technique with shoulder abduction and the lunge. Be sensible with this technique and please check with your doctor, therapist or experienced trainer before using this technique if you have an injury.

Hi Paul, I heard one of your podcasts recently, it was suggested by a good friend and found very valuable info. I came to check out your page and saw this helpful video. Just yesterday I strained my hip flexor while kicking a soccer ball in the air and this video caught my eye. Do you have any advice for exercises that I could apply this principle to for a hip flexor injury? Many thanks for all that you do for the world.

Hello Paul, Thank you for sharing this info with us. It got me thinking about my own physical impediment to working out: the fact that I have serious trouble breathing through my nose (narrow nasal valves and deviated septum) and as result I can't sleep restfully and have poor posture (among many other issues, I'm sure as you can imagine). I was supposed to get a procedure done for my valves but thanks to the pandemic I now have to play the waiting game until clinics open up again. I was wondering if you could provide any exercise tips for someone who's posture keeps falling forward due to mouth breathing and has limited energy due to lack of sleep. I've read HTEMABH, Last 4 Doctors, and watched Healing Fungal and Parasite Infections and have applied what I've learned extensively. Organic diet, parasite cleanses, metal-free, having goals/dreams etc. But I've been sorely lacking in the Dr. Movement department because of nasal obstruction. Poor posture makes working out difficult and poor nasal breathing makes working in difficult. I've resorted to wearing nasal breathing strips but they only help a little bit. What should I do until I can have my procedure done?

HI, I'm still trying to land a meeting with the shaman I use that's an expert in entities and entity removal. I can't say for sure when it will come out, but I'm working on it. She travels all over the world, and is a bit shy about sharing on podcast, but we are working on it :-) Love and chi, Paul Chek

Thanks Paul ! Now that I’m in isolation, there is no better time to do your courses and re-educate myself. I just subscribe to your correspondence courses and I’m already loving it. The only thing is I can’t gain access to any of the course manual in PDF file. I send an email about this but haven’t got a reply yet. I’m also looking forward to access your HLC level 1,2,3 & 4 as well. Thanks for sharing the love and knowledge. Stay authentic

Paul I’m an avid tennis player but I always felt the standard tennis shoes were far too restrictive. I’ve been wearing brooks running shoes and they seem to work pretty well. What are your recommendations for tennis players when it comes to footwear?
@PaulChekLive
@PaulChekLive 4 года назад
Hi, I'd go with Vibrum 5-Fingers. If they don't work well for you, then go with the shoe that has minimal padding, maximum flexibility and allows your foot to feel most free and functional. An excellent show brand that doesn't use individual toe-boxes like 5-Fingers is Xero shoes. Love and chi, Paul Chek

j Fitness Hello, I play tennis and I am big guy. So I played tennis with NB minimus, VFF, and finally found NIKE’s training shoes (this shoe model is from last year$. They are really wide, almost zero drop. It makes difference when playing on a hard surface and especially if you are a big tennis player. Much LOVE, Milan

Milan Cvetkovic could you please tell me the exact Nike model you use I would love to try them. And thank you Paul I appreciate your feedback the Vibram’s won’t work with tennis I find the lateral change of direction is negatively affected especially on a quick hard court surface.

Hello, yesterday I fell down and injured my wrist really bad , in the day already noticed that it's quite serious but I think I also somehow triggered it during the evening (even more) and at night it was unbearable pain, I had no sleep from the pain. Has anyone experienced wrist / ligament injuries? My questions: • Ice vs no ice - found conflicting evidence that ice actually slows down the natural response of body (swelling shuttles down blood and micronutrients - to HEAL) • I will go for X-ray for sure; but if I would get suggested to get a surgery or put my hand/wrist into a splint should I take that advice ? I know that often ends in physically limited people, whereas if you do it heal it more holistically better outcomes can be achieved • How fast should rehabilitation be initiated ? ( I've come across information that holding it passively for too long, which doctors recommend is counterproductive ; you need to star at least mild movements with low/bearable pain and strengthen wrist eventually) • What best treatment/healing options could you suggest, perhaps on your experience • Any recommended macronutrients, supplements, lifestyle changes to optimize healing as possible Any other tips that you think could be useful - I would appreciate. Thank you.
@PaulChekLive
@PaulChekLive 4 года назад
HI, Ice is always the best plan for acute injuries... If there are no broken bones, and immobilization is recommended, then that is usually wise while the damaged tissues heal; as they heal, you'll have the natural instinct to start moving the area that's injured. That can be initiated slowly and gently and you may find that running cold water over the injury as you slowly begin moving it to be helpful if there is still any pain and inflammation. The best treatment option is to find someone skilled in the rehabilitation of the type of injury you have. For supplementation, it depends on the nature of the injury. CBD oil (I use and recommend One Farm. You can listen to my current podcast with Sydney Singer on the danger of Bras and get a discount code) is very helpful for decreasing both inflammation and pain. Keeping the amount of meat to only what you need will decrease inflammation, and eating as much raw food as possible can be very helpful to speed healing. Love and chi, Paul Chek

Hi, It is not my policy to treat the disease that has the person, but to coach the person that has acquired a disease. The basics that I start all my clients with are clearly outlined in my book "How To Eat, Move and Be Healthy!" Whenever anyone wants to hire me for therapy or coaching, the first thing I have my wife (assistant and manager) ask them is, "Have you read and applied the teachings in Paul's book How To Eat, Move and Be Health!?" If the answer is "NO", I always have her tell them, "Do that for six months and if you still have problems, let us know and we'll go from there....otherwise, you will spend your money having Paul teach you what's in the book." Our Holistic Lifestyle Coaching Level 1. program is designed specifically for the public, and can be done 24/7 online; it teaches you how to apply what's in my book and much more, and is VERY cost effective training/coaching. We each embody the choices we've made, and when we reach a place of realizing that we can't live within the choices we've made, we have an opportunity to learn from The PainTeacher, and grow ourselves into the degree of health, vitality, and freedom we desire to fully live and express our love in the world. If you are ready to free yourself from the past, and live fully, then I've offered you a very good plan. Love and chi, Paul Chek
