Option A is only effective if the person using the high guard isnt good at using the high guard. Not to mention expecting to get a pull down from the high guard and land a head shot with out a reaction. Great in theory but good luck in practice. Hand traps and swipes open small windows. If any thing you might see an over correction and open up a body shot briefly. Try this against arthur abraham he will step inside and throw the uppercut with that trapped hand while you have no defense to it and are stuck on your front leg.

Good point, boxing is chess. Every technique is only as good as the situation

That’s some great old school stuff right there! I remember my father showing me something like this 50 years ago. No one expects it to go down like that, but it does. He is a great coach. Thanks for the video.

Hi Coach Could Danny throw the hook or other from the hand that has been swept down? He may not have huge power but it may prevent you taking the shot as you need to block

To pull your hand back to pushing( punching) motion that is travelling the opposite way takes more time than the guy defending a counter with his hands up already. Body mechanics buddy, physics, time for another item to travel from A to B. Obviously the attacker wouldn't proceed with the move if the opponent resists with the downward pull . Then you would do something different

Great video as always Tom. There are boxers though most recently Usyk who use the high guard as bait and catch you on the counter. Thanks

What if opponent is physically more strong than you? Can you remove other hand from high guard anyway?🤔

One trick might be to distract them from your plan or at least do not telegraph your intentions. To me, I hear Tom emphasizing simple drlls...over and over and over...to put into your brains database of sight pictures and curcumstances, which just means as you drill you reinforce the movements and when to apply them so that when you actually go to spar or fight, you'll make these decisions extremely rapidly. You'll have those tools embedded in your brain. And that's why it's super important TO drill in the club at a little bit of a slower pace, with perfecting your techniques in mind so that you don't wind up practicing - and reinforcing - BAD technique. For anyone serious about the sport, allowing yourself to be too lazy drilling is a bad idea because you'll have to go through the enormous trouble of trying to correct bad form later. :/

Coach shows the move in a way that really pulls the hand away, if your strong enough to do it great but it isn’t necessary. Its not difficult to pull the opponent’s guard by just a little bit, but that’s all you need. Remember boxing is a game of inches, a small gap can make the biggest difference-if you can capitalize on it. And since this window of opportunity is one you created, you can immediately take advantage of it without having to assess. I’ve done this on guys who are 50lbs heavier than me, it just takes a small gap, especially when you feel that your opponent has loosened their guard. One way to do this is hit them in the body first, they’re guard will tense up, but if you quickly pull their guard after their body won’t have the time to regain tension since “pulling” is quicker than punching(similar to how micky ward tricks em with quick tap to the head). Their guard will have also lowered due to the body punch which also helps.

This is only good on paper. With the assumption the opponent is stationery and will let you pull their hand down. We should try that on Vergil Ortiz see how it goes..

Lomachenko does this often. It's just one trick, one way, to fight inside. You can't spam it. It helps if the opponent is buzzed and just shelling up. But swiping is perfectly realistic and it works, not just on paper.
