I subscribed and wanted to thank you for this tut. This helped me really a lot in building a website for my wife. I stopped since 2 years because i couldnt find a way to do it. Mind blown! I was taught in the JAM-Stack school of web-dev, and you are my tour guide into the world of Wordpress. Exciting stuff. PS: You should consider talking more about Pantheon. They totally abstract away all of the downsides of running WP, and actually make building on WP effortless. It’s like having a full time WP dev-ops guru on your team. Definitely not a hosting platform for “non-techies” though. But they’re still the best, IMO.

Try as I may, I cannot get the archive to display the items as defined in the first theme. It stubbornly sticks to a title author and read more in masonry, grid or list, whereas the layout defined for portfolio items is a photo on the left, and two texts fields on the right, all PODS fields, that do indeed display fine as individual portfolio items.

The only question that remains for me is the possibility of using Pods & ACF together. If you need to create custom post types (with Pods), but also want to make use of the extra features ACF provides for her fields, can you use both of them together, or is this counter productive / error sensitive?

Great vid, I was using CPT UI but may try out PODS now instead - will have to see if it can use what I have already created. The issue i have is how to implement the new CPT without those builders. My client is using Thrive Architecture which isn't great. Also do you know how to get the Cat and Tags and all those things specific for that CPT into the sidebar on all the pages associated with that CPT. IE Blog page, archives page, and single page, I need the categories to only list stuff from that CPT not from all posts as well.

Hey, Adam! Love your videos! What if I want to create a template as a widget/block and not a full post? Working with Elementor, is there a way to create a template for that? (I've got AE Pro.) On a corporate website, I have a sidebar Contact Us element that needs to be present on each of the company division pages, but the contact info varies slightly for each one.

Hi - new to Pods and it looks Fantastic! I am using Beaver Builder (Themer and theme). I have lots of old Custom Categories set up under Posts (News, Case studies etc) - what I want to do is add Pod fields to some of THOSE old Categories. (For example add 'Location' and 'Website' under the 'Case Study' category.) At the moment I only seem to be able to add a field that appears on ALL categories... Am i missing something obvious? If I create a new Category under Pods it works fine but all my posts are in the WP default. Thanks for any help...

Hey Adam ... I am trying to make a pretty basic "Team" page... i dont need much customization in terms of CSS and layouts however, I would like to have a dedicated backend page. My question is... besides creating a Custom Post Type how would I go about it in terms of using a team page and then subpages for each team member? I understand the concept behind pods or ACF allied with Beaver Themer, however I can't see how ACF or Pods would list the fields on the page without themer - again, i dont think i have need for themer because i dont need much or any customization on the pages. thanks

I know this is 9mo old, but just for the record, I think the answer to this is to use the shortcodes generated by ACF or Pods, and enter them right into the text area of the post (if your theme isn't allowing your new advanced fields to display). See minute 30 of the video.

I don't think it is set up for that. Personally, my preference is to use a page builder to create my index pages. If you look on my website you'll see that I am doing it this way.

Hello Adam, I have a situation where I have to create a CPT called "Products" but also the site has Woocommerce that as you know also has CPT called "Products" If I create a CPT called products, it interferes with woocommerce? I do not know if I can label it "Products" (to make it easier for the user to visualize it) but register it as different as "Our Products"

Sorry about the question but how can i display the custom pods fields to a ctp on the front end so a visitor can submit a ctp? The fields are always visible at the backend. But i want the users to interact. And how is it when i extend an existing ctp with custom fields and taxonomies. How can i implement them in the existing forms. Can Elementor than get the dynamic contant from all the custom fields and cpt or just from a regular post (title, featured image, description...) thanks for your help!!!

You would only need Elementor Pro if you want the modules in it. I think if you are buying Astra Agency you would benefit from the extra power in Elementor Pro.

You mentioned you shouldn't use two page builders on the same page. Can you put content in the editor and then use Elementor? Are there drawbacks to doing that?

You won't be able to do that with Elementor or any of the page builders. As soon you activated you no longer have the ability to enter content into the normal editor.

Hello Adam, are you still supporting this video? I'm wondering why the Astra theme settings (showing sidebar, title and featred image) are changed when I click "Edit with Elementor" in my custom posttype. Wondering if you know what is going southways.

That is the way the theme works. It assumes that if you are wanting to use a page builder that you are wanting to the page to be full width, removed title, etc. This is always how Astra has worked. You can change all of that in the astra settings for the specific page.

WPCrafter.com WordPress For Non-Techies I'm using BB theme + BB builder (pro) + power pack and UABB + themer + Pods + Pods / BB themer plugin. I can manage to create custom post types and custom layout pages (thanks to your vids). I can't however figure out how to include the custom fields in a post module that I'd like to put on my homepage. I'm able to make the connection to the custom post type but I can't include my custom fields. I've used the Pods shortcode + template to drop the fields on a page but styling them is another story.

It sounds to me like you want to show a video instead of a featured image? I am not aware of a way to do that unfortunately. You can create a custom post types for videos and have the video embed be in the content area.

Hey Adam, Very nice information for me. I was not aware we can do this much stuff right inside wordpress. I have 2 questions for you about thrive architect and toolset 1) How about thrive architect? Can we create layout with it and use for custom types. (I think the asnwer is no but still want to ask you. That would be fantastic if we could use it to create layouts.) 2) I am now checking alternative solutions and i saw an another plugin called toolset. It seems to more advanced maybe more powerful. What do you think about it. Is there any strengthes over one another. Thanks in advance

Toolset is a lot more complicated, too complicated. Unfortunately, Thrive Architect is not able to create post templates like you saw in the later part of this video.

I created a pod or custom post type and the shortcodes work. But they display my content down the page just like a regular post. I am wanting to create a page and use elementor to pull the information of the custom post and display them in a rows and columns. I have elementor pro and created a page and tried the post widget and got the custom post type query but its not displaying everything. Do I need to use the anywhere elementor pro and use the post widget? Do you also have to use the pro? Thanks for the great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent tutorial! WpCrafter (and others in the thread), I have created a problem issue for myself using the combination of Pods and Beaver Themer. I created a Pod called "products" with a dozen fields. Then I created a Themer Layout for a "singular product" landing page. The idea was, I will have the same theme for each individual "singular product" I create. The problem arises when I want to add a "Post Carousel" module within that Themer Layout to display "related products". Because it is a Themer Layout, it applies the same filters to every new page I add. I can't find a way to associate the product tags with similar products. Using the Themer page, and a post carousel, the filters apply the same Content Filters to all products, which means I can't display any other single products with the same tags... The filter will apply to the theme, not to the individual products. I am not sure how to clear this up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? PS: I tried to create a Relationship association using Pods and tried to find a way to bring in the individual product page Post Tag as a filter, but it doesn't appear to be working either.

Wow... great video!! It answered so many questions I had about using PODS with Beaver Themer. Is it possible to automatically display an arbitrary number of POD items in a grid of rows and columns? For example, let's say I have a POD set up for cars. The end user fills out the price, featured image, mileage etc. for each car and then there's a "Cars" page (archive page?) that lists all the cars in the system, up to 3 cars per row. These don't have to link to any other pages and each car could be represented as a flipbox or something like that. If so, this would make it really easy for an end user to add, edit and delete items themselves without going into the page builder each time. Thanks!

I believe there is, but it would need to be done using the PODS template system. The best place to get help is on their Slack channel.

Yes, I'm really excited about this. If it's comparable to Beaver Themer, then I'll probably work exclusively with Elementor going forward. (Hopefully someone comes out with better PODS integration though) Beaver Builder is a solid product, but I haven't worked with it as long. It can be a bit of a struggle for me, especially editing the mobile and tablet views.

care full with naming - make it special and not too generic cause you can remove the post type but data will remain and so if you install another plugin that uses say portfolio - like jet-pack had ( dumb ) then it will cause issues... Just heard this discussion in another conversation and thought it might be relevant to mention... Some plugins use custom post types and so you can run the risk of conflicts...

Greetings Adam! I've been following you for a while, and I find this video particularly interesting. This is because I'm a designer and I have the need to showcase my portfolio. So far, the best way I found to do so was by using Jetpack's portfolio feature. I'm also currently working in a web hosting company, and I know that this is a very heavy and bloating plugin. So my question is: Is there an easy way to migrate all my portfolio entries created on jetpack to a custom Pod? Many thanks!

Hmm here is an interesting experiment. When you remove Jetpack, the data is still in the database. If the POD you create is the same name as the one that Jetpack created, your data should be here.

Hello Adam. It's quite easy! Basically, as you said, after deleting Jetpack plugin, you just need to go to the Pods Admin > Add New > Click the "Advanced +" and then on "Pod Name" you just have to type in "jetpack-portfolio". After saving, this new pod will display the portfolio projects previously published with jetpack, and Ta-Dah! You can finally get rid of Jetpack! Thanks

I wish elementor had an additional plugin for the developer like Beaver Theamer. Just seeing the power of Theamer makes me want it more. @wpcrafter Adam if you were to pick Elementor or Beaver Builder knowing you need to use these templates which one would you use?

Not Adam but we own both Elementor (and AE) and Beaver Builder (and Themer + PowerPack + UABB) for our small agency. I can understand why many people find Elementor more sexy but, for us, the better product and system (because BB + Themer etc. is a system) is by far Beaver Builder. It's just so much more flexible and powrful for dynamic templating like this. I had been using Pods for years before we started to use BB so I was very happy to see how close and good the integration is. Also, this probably doesn't apply to you but, on top of the limitations Adam described in this video, AnyWhere Elementor does not support Genesis which is the theme framework our agency has worked with exclusively since mid 2013. We're also evaluationg GeneratePress and Astra but we need Genesis support so AE is a non-starter and makes choosing Elementor a lot less appealing to us. We work with Custom Post Types a lot so flexible dynamic templating that works with Genesis is essential. It works great with BB and Themer. Also, we usually fin BB easier to work with all around, especially now that 2.0 is out. The BB ecosystem and community are larger as is the company behind it. For an agency like ours with dozens of client sites in maintenance, we need to take these into account as long term viability of the vendors we do business with is key to us. BB is also a lot more stable through smaller updates and and larger upgrades. Hope this helps a bit? :)

Stéphane Bergeron yes it does. Thanks. I used the free version of BB a year ago. Thought it was OK. But then saw Elementor and preferred the building experience in it. I want to start building websites for people so I'm going to get the Astra Agency package. Then was planning on getting Elementor but seeing this makes me question this decision. Your insights are helpful.

Interesting enough, Ben from Elementor said in the Elementor Facebook group that it's coming in February. To be frank, if they do release a themer, I will immediately be switching to Elementor on my website.

the best field of pods fields is "relationship" but the problem is that when you connect for example multiple products to a post in CPT A by this field, or connect multiple posts of CPT B to a post of CPT A, when use BeaverThemer to show the output of relationship field receive a block of text from all those product or those CPT B posts. you cant specify link url or product thumbnail or other thing to individual section of block. sory for bad En.

Looks like it goes a long way in separating content and design in custom post types and Beaver themer layouts - quite amazing... Adam, have you've cracked the code to conditionally showing content, like for instance, a parking icon if the custom field "parking" is checked? I'm using Pods Templates and Avada Fusion Builder shortcodes on sortering.sonfor.dk/ to show how to sort your trash (search for plastik if you want to check it out), but as you know, creating a great layout using shortcodes is not very intuitive. I'd very much fancy to use Beaver Builder to create my layout and then populate it with content from my custom post types - but I need some sort of conditional logic in Beaver Themer to make that happen. I guess. Ideas?

I just have a questions though, if we have a Theme Layout for the Footer which is common for all language pages and we use Polylang for managing languages, is there a way to create a POD which depends on the language, so that e.g different Image and Label would be displayed in the common Footer based on the language?
