I have the Mini Teardrop intake and I did basically the same thing, except I ran the T behind the little cover plate that hangs down from the air cleaner to cover the throttle body controls, so you can't see it. I also don't run the little filter at the end, the way I see it is that all old bikes and cars used to just vent to atmosphere without a filter back in the day, so it'll work fine for me
You can run the end hose coming off the T directly to your transmission top cover and it’ll look a lot cleaner. However your video gave me info that I haven’t seen anywhere else thank you for the insight 🤘🏼
I think I'm gonna avoid re. Introducing any mixed fuel, condensation and other buy products. Back into my oil and just let it drain away. Or go into a catch can.
got a chinese copy from RSD air filters and the breathing screws have almost the same positioning than your S&S filter thanks for the very usefull video ;)
ok. I have 2017 FLHRXS with tear drop S&S A/C, and need those breather bolts , where do I get them, Bolts does not show up as 114 stock M8 breather bolt. Those breather bolts show to be the earlier models engines.
I did this mod about a month ago and now I'm hearing that doing an external breather mod releases vacuum pressure inside the crank case. Supposedly it's better to vent the crank case cover instead with a one way valve so you don't loose the vacuum pressure inside. I'm not understanding how doing the external breather mod on the AC can cause vacuum pressure loss when you're just redirecting the excess blow by to another location. Just wanted to see if you researched any of this and had any thoughts on it.
I don't get it either, I just saw Laidlaws Performance bagger video recently, and they also have a external breather on that bike. But it looks like the vent it into the crank case cover. Wish he would address it, maybe we gotta DM him?? Doc Harley likes it, and Trask also does it for their Turbo kits. I dunno?? I'm still looking into it.
@@InfamousCreep Trask also makes the Check M8 vented Trans cover that keeps the vacuum but it's $350. Apparently you won't need external breather on the AC or vented dipstick with this mod. But little too pricey in my opinion. There's another youtuber Ron's Workshop that uses the stock plastic cover and drills a hole into it and puts in a check valve. Might be my next project when I stop riding this winter.
Thanks for the informative videos! I saw a previous video of yours where you added the external breather to your stock air cleaner plate. Did you upgrade to the S&S because you weren’t happy with your previous mod?
Glad they're helpful! I switched over because I like how this breather looks. I've been looking for the Stinger Air Cleaner for sometime now. When I saw it was in stock, I had to get one. The bike performs better, but I could've kept the stock breather. The stock breather works just fine, I just like switching them from time to time, that's all.
@@InfamousCreep The part is cheap. It looks like it's going to fit. I'm going to try it as my weekend project. I'll let you know for works out. I just don't feel comfortable tapping and drilling into the breather.
Brilliant idea and thank you for showing this DIY. I got pretty much all the parts I need to do just like how you did yours. Question, so far you see any difference?
It does the job, I haven't noticed much of a difference when it comes to performance. The engine just performs better when it's not breathing in hot oil.
Just a comment from what I saw watching about 8 ''KING OF THE BAGGERS'' videos. For some reason and I do not know exactly why (might have to do with piston ring sealing?) not one of the race motors that has to be around $ 30,000.00 at least and probably more had a catch can or venting mod other than the transmission cover that I could find? I did notice a vented dip stick.
@@InfamousCreep Thanks for the reply. Yes I was kind of surprised. Even the Fueling Team and all the others had no intake breather mods that I could see, just dip stick caps and tranny covers. Makes you wonder? I did find one that was vented and it was on the Harley RU-vid site on the Battle of the Baggers Episode 3 of all places.
@@ericjames7680 I don't know about these M8s, but I did have breather bolts on my EVO many years ago. I read somewhere about these M8s are different, we might just need a bit more research. Doc Harley likes the external breathers, but maybe it was on a twin cam??
@@InfamousCreep I think the Twin Cam had the breathers also. Doc says its a good idea but Baxter says no but then maybe yes? But the summping he thinks is really caused by the M8 being balanced and the oil gets thrown around too much. He is looking for a donor bike to remove the balancer to see if this helps. So back to researching!😎
@@ericjames7680 when you mention piston ring sealing, are you talking about maintaining a vacuum in the crankcase? The one way breather valves in the heads only open with internal pressure caused by the piston downstroke, right? So the vacuum in the engine from the upstroke of the pistons causes the breather valves to close thus maintaining the vacuum. The engine is not getting it's vacuum from the air cleaner.
I wouldn't know, you could buy these bolts from Kuryaken on Amazon, but I would suggest visiting your local dealer and ordering the bolts. If your breather bolts look like the ones on the 114, then yes. Worst case you'll spend $15-$30 bucks on the bolts.

Yes, I still have the external breather and it's doing good. The external breather filter needs minor cleaning, but it isn't clogged or anything like that. You could vent it into your trans cover like the blockhead video.
@@InfamousCreep I was in the garage today and I think I'm going to need to bend the front of the tear drop cover slightly. There's not enough clearance with the front breather bolt. Do you remember if you had to bend the cover a little?
