Like you I never heard of this technique to finish a quilt. Your tutorial is just perfect. I look forward to every episode you create. Thank you! Happy sewing🪡🧵
I’ve never seen that technique either. Thanks Christine. You are a great teacher. I am always pricking my fingers too so have a collection of plasters with my sewing notions lol. So annoying when you get blood on your project. What’s that saying “Made with blood sweat and tears” 😉
Gosh Christine, I have never seen that either! I can imagine a number of applications, including textile artists using it outside the bounds of traditional quilting! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
I've heard of using a facing but hadn't ever seen it done. Great idea, easier than the rod pocket...after getting quilt done. Thanks. Kudos for finishing your quilt.
This is a new technique for me, and I agree with you it does have its place. Your wall hanging looks great without a binding showing, it allows that piano key border to shine! I've been doing some hand embroidering in the evenings here lately, and have pricked my fingers more than ever before. Glad to know I'm not the only one.🤭 Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thank you for showing how to do this! I had recently heard of it, but had not seen how it is done until now. I have lots of UFOs, mostly because I am terrified of binding a quilt and am terrible at it. I will definitely be giving this a try. It seems much easier than the traditional binding methods, maybe because I come from a background of first learning to sew clothing, so I'm very familiar with doing facings. Thanks! 🥰
I have been quilting forever and never have I seen it done this way. I am currently working on a fall wall hanging I am going to try it out on that piece❤
First off, your quilt is very cute. I’ve only made one quilt thus far and I didn’t know about this method. I would definitely use this method next time. Thank you ❤😊
What a lovely finish this gives the quilt! I’ve not seen the technique before either Christine so thank you so much for posting this video - I’m certainly going to give this a go on my next quilt. 👍 x
I've used this very method for walllhangings. For neat and hangs beautifully. I use a square wooden dowel, top and bottom so it hangs without the corners flapping/curling. The square dowel doesn't 'bow' like a round diwel. Great video and I'll be sharing it with my local quilter's club.
This is a nice finish for a small hanging that I hadn't seen before. I think if you were wanting to hang a larger quilt a standard rod pocket would work better. Thanks for sharing.
Christine do you know how to sew everything? There’s always something different on your channel. I love it! Your quilt is so beautiful. I’ve always wanted to do the facing like that but I’ve never tried it.
I have tried that knotting technique many times, and it never works for me. I do not understand what I do wrong. So, I just use the old, roll it on your finger and tug technique. Lovely video, as usual!
I have not used it yet. However, this is the second video (I have watched) where we are shown how to do it. It does give a beautiful finish to the quilt. This is a perfect way to finish a wall quilt. Thank you. An adjustable cafe curtain rod would work.
I love your videos with their clear and simple instructions. Have you ever made a "dumpling" style pouch and if so, do you have any tips on inserting zips to curves?
I do like this “new” way of binding, I like both ways. After you and coco finished hand stitching (and a good job she did) I immediately missed the outline that a regular binding would give. I think it’s because I’m just used to expecting to see it. I’m planning to finish a 90x90 patchwork Dresden this winter and will be thinking about my options. I started it 7 years ago and quit during Covid. (I think I was depressed after losing loved ones) I really like both techniques. This is only my 2nd quilt ever and each Dresden plate is 81 pieces. I hope I don’t choose just because I want it to be finished. I’m already thinking I could just add a tiny border if I’d use this. I really like it it’s simplicity. Thank you, once again, for being so generous and patient. Why do I think your sweet fur baby is named Coco?
Thanks Christine. Great method for finishing a quilt. I don't know how many times I've pricked my finger leaving behind a blood stain. Did you know that you are able to get them out with your own spit, there is supposed to be stuff in it to dissolve your own blood stains. It works for me. Interesting but strange...😊
I’ve used the triangles for decades but never a facing on a quilt… just clothing. I bind or birth. Also love the diagonal stitching across the corners - never saw that before! Love it. Thank you. Great demo!, love your quilt. Both the design and the colors. Is it going into your Shop?
Hi I too have never heard of this technique of binding but find its simplicity and finish very nice. I have a question is there a rule of thumb on the straight edges which you used 4 inches folded in half? Can the width be reduced to example 3 inches then folded? Thanks so much for doing this, I’m always interested in learning other techniques and out comes. Appreciate it! Lou
Thanks Christine for your reply! I also found a tutorial on the same thing, where they didn’t use triangle corners but just extended the strips up further sewed down ends for flipping. Hope that makes sense! Don’t know how nice that would lay for a quilt! But I think your wider width of fold over fabric, would work much smoother! An interesting technique! Thanks for all you do. Your tiny zipper pouch was unique . Have a wonderful day Lou@@ChristinesHomeAffairs
Thank you very much for sharing. There is a great tutorial on this subject by Nancy @OnPoint-TV and Quilting with Nancy where the facing is cut to be whatever you wish it to be. It is not just the four straight pieces. It becomes a reversible quilt, if you wish it to be. She does the 'under stitching too', but I have not seen anyone else do the facing as she does.
