I wanted to create a video that I wish I had seen back when I was questioning what it means to be an artist. This is basically a letter to my younger self and anyone who may find themselves in a similar place.💕🙏 Btw, citrine bottle charm and earrings are available on my shop (you can choose between stainless steel or plastic earring hooks depending on your hypoallergenic needs): www.zaccura.com/shop?Category=Jewelry+%26+Charms

I feel like one huge thing that really discouraged me from making art was that pretty much all the art RU-vidrs I used to watch religiously stopped posting on social media or their style has changed so much that I can’t resonate with it anymore. I can find inspiration from people on Instagram but reels don’t feel anything like the videos I used to watch on RU-vid. Like the whole art TikTok, reels thing doesn’t hit at all compared to art RU-vid. In a way I feel like I went from being served a four course meal to being served a granola bar (in terms of the video format only, the art slaps) I’m not trying to blame all the artists I used to look up to who don’t post anymore (or rarely do) but I truly feel like they shaped half of my personality because not only did I learn how to draw from them but they also taught me English so it kinda feels like a heartbreak that almost all of them had to quit youtube 😭 I just wish I could go back and relive my favorite moments making art watching them

“Four course meal to a granola bar”😂 What an acute way of putting it. I feel this. I’m self-taught off of art RU-vid. I would not be the artist I am today without the channels I used to watch religiously, who have now gone/changed drastically. It’s always sad to see people go, and hard to see the landscape of a platform change. But as they say, one door closes another opens! In the last couple years I’ve discovered new artists, new channels, who approach things differently than those I watched before, but the passion and inspiring energy is there all the same. Long-form videos haven’t been replaced by shorts/reels imo. The four course meal is still there, it’s just a little different cuisine.😉 Either way though, I wish you best, I hope you find new inspirations for your art, I'm sure they're out there waiting to be found and loved by you!💕🙏

@@Zaccura yeah guess there must be some hidden gems I have yet to find 😭 maybe I just need to actively search for art RU-vidrs more like I used to instead of just sticking with the old videos

Love the storytelling of your videos. Also all of the things you said makes sense. To cultivate creative flow is a mindful process and felt happy to hear about it. Nowday's in times of popularity and social media pressure, ideas such as sustainability and comfort are often less practiced. Even I constantly struggle for balance of it. and it makes one happy that the fellow art community is again moving towards fun in art and finding their own voice through art. Art is fun. Happy that you find your passion for art back. Thank you so much for your art thoughts. :)😍

Wow Zaccura!! You have so much wisdom and even from the screen, I am touched by your genuine spirit. You're darling hedgehog is adorable and makes me want to paint animals too haha and I haven't felt like painting anything in a while....I was for a few years but then life got me down and I wondered what was the point. Something shifted in me listening to your words and art journey as well. Thank you for making these awesome videos and sharing your unique art ❤

You have good timing with your vids. Ive recently come to the same conclusions after getting back to art after a couple of years. Since Im a busy guy, I will randomly disappear to my studio and work on something sometimes for a minute, sometimes for an hour or two, or until someone in the family finds and retrieves me. Lol As always, love your videos, your wit, and your charm. Stay awesome, Zaccy!

This is exactly what I needed! I don't know why but these days I don't find any pleasure in drawing or writing. But now I realize that it's okay. We all are humans, afterall. We, too, need rest. And taking a break is necessary, too. And if you really love your art, then you'll return to it after a little while. That's all what I believe.
@Zaccura
@Zaccura Год назад
Absolutely! It can be oddly scary to lose passion for something, even for a short while! But the ebb and flow is all part of the journey.💕

thank you for this video l can relate a lot, l am still struggling to find motivation and flow to create art, it's the inspiration element that is missing and l have tried many ways to ignite it, but l have a huge voice in my head that says what is the point, l have so many art supplies staring at me in my room that just seems to hinder the lack of wanting to do anything which is weird, l hope 1 day l get that spark of wanting to create again soon
@Zaccura
@Zaccura Год назад
Ahh yes, I have a lot of supplies too. I think having a lot of supplies can sometimes create a sort "decision paralysis" because there's too many choices! One thing I like to do is limit myself to one tool (1 pencil or pen for example) for some time. Maybe create a challenge for yourself like "graphite week" or "gouache week" where you can only use that medium during that time period. Or try following a prompt word/list. Limitations can often bring a lot more inspiration that total creative freedom! Either way, I'm sending you all the positive vibes, I hope you find your spark soon!💕🙏

i really needed this video!! The past month i feel like ive lost my drawing routine. Everyday i used to dedicate a time in the evening to draw in my sketchbook but recently i've been doing other hobbies and feel like i'm neglecting my art 😢 Kinda have this thing where " if you don't use it , you lose it" feeling like all the progress i've made in my skills will all disappear if i don't continue to practice. On a lighter note your hedgehog painting is absolutely gorgeous and soooo cute!! 🤩
@Zaccura
@Zaccura Год назад
Ahh I know what you mean about the “use it or lose it” mentality, I was afraid of this too! And when I saw how much I did forget when I came back, it only reinforced my thinking that I would have to relearn everything. But it wasn’t true. You might forget specific memorized techniques and theories, but your ability to see proportions, judge colors, composition, break down objects into simpler shapes/planes etc. never goes away once you learn it! And that is like 75% of being an artist. The rest can easily be reminded and picked up again fairly quickly - muscle memory also kicks back in with a few practice sessions. So art is not like “use it or lose it” more like riding a bike! You might be a bit wobbly after some time away, but you’ll never forget! ;) Daily drawing routines can be great, but only if you feel connected with it, otherwise it leads to burnout (in my experience). Do what feels right, Em! Wishing you the best. And thank you so much!!💕💕😊

There is some truth to the statement that a lot of the art that is most revered is very ugly. And I'm not just talking about modern or or post-modern art. If you look at a lot of the figure sketches of Michelangelo and Da Vinci, they drew a lot of very lumpy people. Every time I look at those sketches I find myself thinking "Those aren't muscles. Those are tumors." Why they chose to draw like that I'm not sure, but I feel like a lot of Renaissance art isn't supposed to be aesthetically pleasing, it's supposed to serve an instructional or didactic purpose, or a religious purpose.
@Zaccura
@Zaccura 21 день назад
Yes! I mean Da Vinci used a lot of a straight up cadavers for his work. And I feel in art history, even when "pretty" people were represented, it still meant to serve a narrative - like the Greek God and Goddess statues for example... they're supposed to be mighty Gods, so it makes sense to represent many of them with what people at that time viewed as the highest form of beauty or distinguishment. I feel the "art should always be pretty even for no reason" mindset is a fairly recent phenomenon (I'm guessing 20th century?). Probably set on by the widespread commercialization of art in general.
