These all cover in various ways how to do the reset, and are probably better geared for shiny hunters than me. I just wanted to cover this in actual detail. Method: Step 1: Save twice. Step 2: Preform corruption by going to title screen, hitting Up+Select+B to delete a save. When you click Yes, turn the GBA off instantly. Step 3: You will now have the message that the save file is corrupted, and are in save block B as current save. Save twice from here. This makes your main save Block B, and backup Block A. Step 4: Receive Jirachi/Celebi. If not desired result, restart from step 2.
As a kid, I always felt the need to save twice or multiple times whenever I achieved something special in my old games like finding a shiny or just a rare Pokemon in general, knowing it most likely wouldn't make any difference. Today I learned, that it actually DID make a difference behind the scenes, creating saves within different save blocks. This vid is literally gold, instructions and explanations on point. It's gonna be helpful for quite some shiny hunters and Pokemon fans in general out there, keep up the great work man!

Excellent video as always Blissey. You mentioned not being able to think of any other applications for this corruption method, however I believe if Pokémon Box works anything like Pokémon Channel then cloning entire boxes should be quite easy. I’ll go test this myself shortly and edit this comment with the results. Edit: Cloning is indeed possible and surprisingly easy with this.

I am so glad I hunted my shiny Jirachi using your event and didn't have to sit in front of my Gamecube for hours on end doing this (or the WISHMAKR one). Meant I could spend my hunt watching tv with my wife haha. Thanks blisy!
No plans to do this (finding a copy of Channel in half decent condition is seemingly an impossible feat) but honestly so interesting to watch anyways! Never knew gen3 had a backup save, I knew some of the Switch titles did but assumed they were the first. Do all gens have a backup save file?
@@imablisy 1/2 most likely doesn't, based on how speedrunners/TASers/glitch-hunters have broken those games apart, including glitches caused by save data corruption
@@imablisy update, because literally the very next video i watched coincidentally went over gen 1/2 save backups! Gen 1 doesn't make a backup save, but gen 2 does. It might be different from future gens but it's there

So uhh, I somehow got 2 Jirachi's on one save file? I'm not exactly sure what happened. I was just doing normal Colo Bonus disc save corruption resets for a while, and got distracted and lost track of whether or not I had just saved twice or not, so I went into the save file (seeing 1 on the Pokedex) and saved twice. Connected to GameCube, soft reset GBA, turned the GBA on and off partway through the animation (once the Pokeball spinning framerate goes up is the best way to describe it), went to my save, and noticed I only had 1 caught for my Pokedex. Checking in game indeed shows only Mudkip as caught, but I have 2 Wishmakr Jirachi's in my party. They're different Jirachis as well, one is Rash and the other is Quirky. Any idea how that might happen? Maybe the save corrupted in a weird way?
so this hunt would still be possible if, instead of save corrupting, you injected a save file onto your cartridge that had an unredeemed channel jirachi, right? just curious on whether thats also feasible

Is this possible on a usa version of pokemon channel or does it specifically have to be an eu version of channel? And if it's only eu version where can I buy an eu version? I'm only seeing usa versions on ebay.
iirc it’s only EU (referred to as PAL) copies that have the Jirachi distribution. My understanding is that it was a sort of concession given that the PAL region didn’t get any bonus discs that would distribute Pokémon like the NTSC and JPN regions got. (Jirachi and Celebi/Pikachu, respectively) You’ll also need either a PAL console or a console that has some sort of region unlocking.
I feel like there's something that I am doing wrong because some of the days I do this. I can go through saves like nuts, but other days I can't get one despite saving twice before the jirachi and turning off the game within a few seconds after deleting the file. Only to be met by a corrupted save but still have the jirachi on the save. I don't get it

Update: works with the Pokémon Box gift eggs. Tested with my copy of Ruby, I could receive the false swipe Swablu, perform the corruption and claim another. I didn’t even need to store it on the Ruby cartridge! I could keep filling up the memory box with eggs, and move 5 of them to hatch all at once, performing the corruption again if none were shiny. If only flame body worked in RS haha
Hey man I have a few questions regarding channel jirachi and since you seem to know quite a bit about it I figured I'd ask. Do you happen to know if a dead battery affects the distribution at all? And if not is it frame dependent, meaning that its possible to hit the same jirachis when resetting (like in emerald) It would be cool to know since i wanted to try my luck at it without RNGing.
First of all every reset on planet earth is frame dependent and it’s always possible to hit the same frame and seed from g3 to g8. Just unlikely. No, battery doesn’t effect it. It’s generated GameCube side by channels current prng state
I'm playing Channel on Wii with nintendont and could send a jirachi to my legit pokemon ruby, just has to remember to turn on native controls in nintendont's settings for the gc to gba cabel to work. Wasted a good 20 min before i figured that out.

So just a quick question, but if you lose track of how many times you saved, from what i understand saving something like 3 or 4 times is still safe to do right? and i'm also assuming the shiny odds in channel are the same as the bonus disk? Do not save 3 or 4 times, that's bad. Always corrupt if you lose track of where you saved, then save two times post-corrupt. no, channel has the normal 1/8192 odds
Would this work for the gift eggs? I've read you can rng for shininess but not IVs but considering you have the list of possible spreads for Jirachi I'm assuming it would be a similar deal for let's say extremespeed Zigzagoon.

Is this like reverse method 1 or something different? Does it depend on rng in the receiving game like the Wishmaker Jirachi? I haven't been able to find anything else on this. Wait so you can receive as many Jirachis after completing channel as long as there is a copy of RS that hasn't gotten it yet? I thought you had to beat both Channel and RS to get a new Jirachi
