There are many different fastening methods for Brazilian Hardwoods like Ipe, Cumaru, Massaranduba, Tigerwood, Garapa and Purpleheart. This video covers the ones we like the best, and why. Instruction documents for ALL the methods in the video can be found on our website's Documents section, www.bwdepot.co...

Something to consider is the framing. Because if you use treated lumber, It will rot before the decking GUARANTEED. So choose wisely. I went with an HDPE reinforced floor joist from (tangent technologies)

Hands down, The Camo tool system is terrific. I recommend using Stainless steel for all exterior use unless you're using in a very dry climate. The Pro plug is also a very good recommended plug system as well which is needed for securing the outside perimeter pieces.

Wow, excellent video, answered so many of my questions regarding fasteners. I'm considering replacing my existing deck with one using ipe or cumaru decking, and I am leaning towards simply using the ProPlug system for all the decking. Seems like a great way to have the strength of face fastening but without that much extra work to hide the screws. Are there any negatives to the ProPlug system?

Thank you very much! I suppose one negative to the ProPlug system would be, the inability to access the heads of the screws in the future. Other than that, I can't really think of any.

your videos are amazing and super helpful. If I was down south, I'd be buying my material from you guys. Building a Garapa deck in California. Thanks so much.

I will buy the Camo/steel screws based on your recommend. Question: I also am using the same decking wood(1 x6 batu) as my horizontal fencing around the deck posts. What do you think of using the Camo to attach those at the corners? Would it look odd, or not be as strong as normal face screwing...

Great video. I am getting too much splintering with pre-drilling holes even using new bits. It is creating an area of concern for moisture collection. Anyone have any ideas? I have seen several videos of guys not pre-drilling and thinking I will just do that with the self tapping screws. .

A question came up. I was told buy a website(from whom I bought the deckwise drill kit) that you DO NOT have to countersink the bugle head deck screws...is that true?

Looking to purchase the Camo system from you for an Ipe 1,300 sqft deck. Also looking to use water shield membrane on top of joists... what about subfloor adhesive on membrane??? Needed? Will it hold?

This is a good question. We like the use of joist protective membranes, and you are correct that the standard outdoor construction adhesive, like Liquid Nails, may not adhere to some times of Joist Tapes/membranes. Some contractors use specific epoxy glues that are effective in adhering the wood decking to the membrane, I'm not familiar with those specific products. With CAMO Edge Fastening, the MAIN reason for the adhesive is to prevent creaking in later years. Most types of joist tapes/membranes prevent creaking, as a byproduct of the materials it is made of. If this is the case, you really don't need the subfloor adhesive at all. Hope this helps!

excluding face screwing methods, which hidden method is most effective at preventing cupping on 1x6 ipe? i plan on having an dry below system, so subfloor adhesive isn’t an option

what about Camo Edge clips, aren't they suitable for Ipe?

#8 screws, especially the 2.5" do not work in Ipe, I keep spinning the heads off the Deckwise screws.
