Great tip on using corner braces for mounting panels. Corner braces are about 0.55c each vs $11 from 8020/tnutz for panel mount blocks.

Hi Scott, I am a bit fan of your work! I am in the middle of my van build using 10 series T-Slot Aluminum. I want to clad the frame with 3/4" bamboo plywood, I would use 1/2" on the ends of the cabinet, but it is only available in 1/4" or 3/4". Now to my question. How are the threaded inserts holding up after three years of use?

These brackets you reference come in 25mm, 30mm, 40mm. Was it just trial and error to determine if these work with the 30MM extrusions? For 30 MM you would need 15MM between center point of the screw hole and the outside edge of the bracket. Also, did you use standard 8020 screws and t-nuts (or roll-in t-nuts) to attach brackets to extrusions? The hole size of these brackets is 5mm or 0.2 inches, whereas standard series 30 inside corner brackets 6.8mm in diameter. Thanks!!

Done put loctite otherwise you’ll spin out the threaded plugs. The screws won’t back out but if they do, use a piece of dental floss , stick it in the plug, the thread your screw in. It should create enough resistance but not enough to back out the plugs. I’m afraid the wood glue won’t be strong enough against loctite.

What's the advantage of using a 10mm thread and bolt vs a 10mm wood screw into the panel?

Yes, exactly this question. Wood screw into the panel seems much simpler.

Thanks Scott for this. I was wondering are you using the same principle for the bottom of the upper cabinates? Because the whole weiht of whatever that is inside of the cabinet would be on it... Are you using two boards then?

Hi Scott. Cotek 3000W inverter has three versions: 12, 24 or a 48 volt version. The link you posted above goes to the 24 volt version. Is that what you got?

Have you used any contact cement glue with your panels and 8020 - I'm wondering what glue works on 8020 that has been powder coated ... or anodized.

Thats funny, with the frame of my cabinets finished, I was thinking about the same issue currently and the holy youtube algorithm recommended me this video out of nowhere. I was planning on using these rampa nuts (rampa is one manufacturer for these nuts, in Germany the are usually called rampa nuts), but then thought about glueing extruded aluminium angles directly to the wood panel. I test glued a piece to a oiled panel yesterday using a SMP glue and it really sticks nicely. It also might be easier to attach.

Brilliant! I've been kicking around how to do just this with my build down the road when I get to that point, and this is a great solution. A question: Why use Baltic birch plywood if you're just covering it up on both sides with laminate anyway?

Hi Scott, do you think it is possible to attach just laminate? 80/20 structure is strong enough and to reduce the weight I would just cover it with laminate. Of cause the fasteners will go through and will be visible but added weight would be minimal.
@scottadamson6116
@scottadamson6116 3 года назад
the laminate is very brittle until it is fastened to a substrate like wood

I'm using 2020, 20mm extrusion for my closet/wardrobe and its pretty strong... Only using 3060 (30mm by 60mm) for my bed, anything ticker is overkill i think... and pricey

Audio sounds good. Does the outside of the panel sit flush with the outside of the 8020 (or even slightly inside the 8020)? If so then I assume you not have to cover the edges of the panel. Could you confirm please? A photo or two would probably explain even better.

Assuming the 8020 is approx 30mm wide: if your L brackets are facing outside, then your panels will stick out. if they are facing inside, the panels will be sunken too much. too bad that you spent so much time talking and so little time to actually show the process, how you put the brackets, where exactly, and how you attach the panels.
