What if home isn't about a place? What if home is a state of being? Dr. Laura Gallaher is an Organizational Psychologist, Speaker,
Facilitator, and Executive Coach. She is the founder and CEO of Gallaher Edge, which she started in 2013.
Her noteworthy career began after the Space Shuttle Columbia

She worked for 8 years to positively influence culture, develop leadership capacity, and improve organizational performance at Kennedy Space Center.
Laura was also hired to help manage the change associated with radical changes in the performance management process and philosophy at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.
Laura is an expert trainer, speaker and consultant, particularly in the concepts of self-awareness, accountability, trust building and team cohesion.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a Masters and PhD in Organizational Psychology. The self-acceptance and confidence to feel at home anywhere is my aspirational reality too. I really enjoyed this talk. Lots of good insight! Thanks for sharing! :)

Just what I needed to hear. I just retired from working as a teacher in an inner city public school. I have moved from one of the largest cities in USA to a small town with no street lights. At times I feel displaced or even out of place. After hearing this, I think the home feeling will be easier to cultivate.

Find a few activities you enjoy like going to the gym, swim, garden, yoga, start a book club, paint, creative writing, Art, volunteer. My Aunt just retired too and now she's volunteering at a school instead of being a employee. She's so happy

This Ted talk deserves more views. The challenge of improving our self-esteem is daunting. I just started working on it in my 30s, and I feel overwhelmed by everything. However, I trust that I will get there.

“Confidence isn’t about having the answers. It’s about trusting in your ability to cope with the world. When you believe you can cope with the world, any place can feel like home.🏡 And home, is more than just being with the people that you love, It’s that you can love anybody that you’re with.. when you let yourself. You can belong everywhere and nowhere, and that’s okay. As long as you belong to yourself. When you feel home with yourself, you can feel at home anywhere.” 🏡 ❤

Wow this was really helpful. I recently moved into a bad neighbourhood as inflation has forced me and my family to. I’ve been struggling really hard and feeling like a failure and ashamed of my home (next door to a drug house that finally got shut down and condemned after if became a homicide crime scene.) It’s true other will judge you no matter what you do, even in a nicer home I would be judged so I need to just accept that 🤷🏻‍♀️ and love myself

Lol the no cheese burrito. Thank you for this message though. Learning to be at home with yourself will help us cope ANYWHERE. Internal self love and acceptance is something I need to work on

This hit me right in the heart and moved me. Thank you for sharing this Dr. Laura. Do you have any advice to stop judging yourself + creating more internal psychological safety?
@gallaheredge1766

Thank you, Michelle!! Practicing self-compassion is my #1 strategy. You can listen to your own self-talk and ask yourself: "Would I speak to a friend that I love and respect in this way?" And if not, you can change your self-talk. Also - recognizing that you will NEVER be perfect and you will ALWAYS find ways that you can be "better" - it reminds you that there's no destination. There is only a choice to be ok with yourself RIGHT NOW. And that waiting for some kind of external event to accept yourself is artificial. As soon as you get "there" - you will move your bar for when you'll finally accept yourself, and this game continues until you decide to stop it. It's definitely a practice, and I think it's a very worthy one!!

@@sakcahalit Thank you Halit! So pleased you enjoy the content. Maybe you can also shift your language to say that you are accepting yourself more and more (focus on the affirmative and what you DO want) :) Cheers! ~Laura
