How to feel youthful at heart - the wisdom of children

Hello everyone! I know that not all childhoods are happy ones, but I do think there is a lot to be gained from meditating on the person you were at a young age. By getting in touch with your innate passions and joy and curiosity with the world, you can really get to know your soul, and - hopefully - find some inner peace. Hope you enjoy this video. I've been quite busy with work and trying to fit in camping trips before the cold comes, so bigger videos such as a cottage tour needed to be put on a back burner. Best wishes! Sending love, light, and hugs to all.

As a 56 year old male, I'm not sure I really grew up. Yes, my wife and I have raised two great sons and I do all the things a responsible adult must. However, as a boy I loved reading, building models, playing games and spending hours in the woods. I still do. In my mind I'm still 10 but I look in the mirror and know the truth. But each day after work you will find me upstairs working on my beloved hobbies or outside with my favorite pup. Seeing Orion chase the Pleiades across the night sky or listening to wind in the trees whispering of tomorrow's promises still gladdens my heart.

Age does not discriminate to stay young at heart . I learned that staying young at heart is the key to keep the child within me. As an adult, we can choose the life we live versus as a child we do not have control of our lives. We are under adults instructions or influences and there are adults that abuse and take advantage or don't know how to treat a child or minor with kindness , compassion or empathy. i am learning to create my own version of happy childhood at the age of late 40s.

Yesterday I realised, rain does not hurt. You get wet and you dry. Rain is such a beautiful thing, it just, when we were children, we were told to come inside. It's taken me almost 64 years to realise this. I have to wonder what more will I realise in the following years of my life.

I agree.. it’s just when it’s so cold I can barely take it , I adore the sound of it though, looking as leftover raindrops roll off of flower petals like a teardrop, or simply sitting on my porch as I watch and listen to the rainfall.

When I was five, I'd lie in yard and stare up into the nighttime sky and ask myself questions like, who is God? Where does he/she come from? And, what lies beyond the stars? Now, in my autumn years, I sometime slip out into the yard at night and lie back and stare up at the stars. And when I do, I find I'm still asking the same questions - only, with a deeper understanding.

This past winter, after shoveling our walkway in 2 ft of snow, once my “adult task” was done, I jumped backwards into the drift and made snow angels. I laid there watching the snowflakes drift down and rest on my face, smiling like I hadn’t in a very long time. It was the first time in years I had honored my inner child, and she was immensely happy that day 💛💛💛

I tried to do this🤣 but the lunch aids always yelled at me to stay on the playground or blacktop. I stayed as close to the woods as I could. I was strange among my peers but as I grew older and could choose where I wanted to go I gained friendships akin to my strangeness and felt less alone. Now as a middle school teacher I try to inspire acceptance of unique strangeness and acceptance.

One of my favourite childhood memories is when my dad came back from one week in France for work. He had all of his clothes in a plastic bag and had filled his luggage with books for me. The moment of discovery of every single one, smelling the pages, trying to choose which one I would read first was pure magic.

Everytime I go out to see nature, I always try to think of myself as a child again, innocent and without a care in the world. Living in my own imaginations. I would imagine going on magical adventures and still aim to put in a bit of magic in everything that I do. Just this morning, I connected with my 3 year old niece who is battling with cancer. She stayed with us for two days and just this morning before she finally left to the hospital to get her chemo therapy, she held my hand tightly and dragged me out to our porch which had a few plants in there and she then shouted "we're going to the forest!". This really touched my heart. We live in a city far away from forests. Our porch is only about 4meters long and 2 meters wide but she proceeded to drag me around the porch, walking slowly as we admired the small bushes of plants and I told her the bucket of water was an ocean that only brave people could touch. She braved it enough to touch the water with me. Even at the simplest of things, she would giggle or laugh and it deeply melts my heart. She is such a ray of sunshine untainted by shame, worry or any impurities of the world. She's a beautiful soul and I wish her all the best in the world. She finally left and I would likely not be able to see her again for years. I'm praying she beats her cancer and grows into a confident woman filled with purpose and kindness. Now I understand how having children around is a whole different experience.

Loved this video! Whenever I lost something as a child and then found it again, I thought it was the fairies bringing it back to me. When I was a bit older, I believed I was a witch and could do magic, but I didn't have full control over my powers yet. There was also a ruined castle near my grandparent's house, and I believed the echoes inside were the voices of the people who used to live there, long ago. As a child, I had such creative explanations for everything. As an adult, I try to keep that sense of imagination and wonder.
@TheCottageFairy
@TheCottageFairy 4 года назад
Ooh! How magical and mysterious! I love the echoes in the castle, how interesting. When I lost my tooth as a child my mother would leave little bits of gold foil and mica on my window sill (little pieces of fairyland she tracked in on her slippers) and it was so exciting! So fun to keep that wonder alive ✨✨🧚

This video brought back my memories of childhood that included seeing my first hummingbird,making mud pies with worms for decorations, lying on my back with my friends to look up at the clouds to see what each of us thought the cloud shapes looked like, running out in your bathing suit when a heavy summer rain came even when the sun was shining! Catching fireflies at night in a jar and using it to light up your "cave" that you made from some blankets and some wooden crates, and lying on the ground at night and look up at the stars and wonder what was beyond the stars! These are the things that kept my childhood mind occupied! The innocence of childhood still resides in the inner most recesses of adult minds, we have to do is find our solitude in this hectic world and remember!! God Bless!

The innocence and simplicity that was with her in everything she did, her joy for everything new was infectious. How she would question everything and occasionally she would have little tears coming down her face because she was moved by compassion. Your home and your words just spill over with peace. When I was a child, I would go across our street and spend hours exploring the woods--wishing the little creatures would come to me, collecting acorns to turn into angels and little people. I would build forts among the trees and played house--by myself or with my friends. But mostly, I would just wander in the woods, admiring the trees, the grasses, the mushrooms, and anything else I found there. It was my sanctuary (Suzi).

It is my biggest dream to live simply like you.To get away from the clutter and stress of modern day life and escape to the twisting countryside. I remember for the first time in months, I teared up watching you wander through the medow and play your fiddle in the grass. I hope to one day live alongside nature and use her bountiful gifts to find beauty in this world. This video brought back memories that I didn't know I had. Twirling in flowy dresses until I'd collapse in heaps of laughter, and placing beautiful flowers in my bright blonde pigtails. Oh, were those the days. When I could make mud pies and wonder in awe at everything I saw around me. And you made me realize, that I can still do those things. I love this so much. I am an very intense empath, and I also have autism. While I am married-my childlike spirit never truly grew up, and I am learning to cultivate and accept that part about myself-which has been hard due to bullying when I was quite young. I adore all things nature, little animals, flowers, butterflies...I just love-LOVE. I feel like it’s what I was put on earth to do. Just to love as much and as deeply as I can. Thank you dear one for posting this, truly brightened my whole day and renewed my sense of acceptance for my own inner child.

Heart of Kentucky. Hi Cottage Fairy. My favorite childhood memories are being with my grandparents, hanging out with my dad, singing and playing the piano. I also enjoyed, all the children in the neighborhood getting together in the summer, and playing out side. Katie.

Your videos are comforting. I see them out often. At first I thought that I didn’t have any beautiful childhood memories because I was thinking of only my parents, but I remembered my grandmother. Thank goodness for her. I’m blessed because of her. I have so many joyful memories of my dearest grandmother. We would go blackberry picking in late summer when we drove past a full patch when the sun was high. We would cradle those ripe berries in our shirts and head back home in that black Lincoln with suicide doors while she put in red lipstick in the rear view mirror.

Lovely!!♥️ My favourite childhood memory is that I always used to think that I have some kind of magic power in me and it will reveal to me as I'll grow up. & I used to look at rain drops falling on water and making ripples & it still amazes me. I dont think I'm a grown up until now & will never be...& You always bring out the serenity..Keep the good work going!♥️🍭

Oh that’s such a lovely memory! What a great choice of magic power, water feels so magical. As a child I was always pretending to find “portals” into other worlds, I wanted to find a version of Narnia somewhere! I admit I still keep an eye out for portals ;) I hope to keep my inner child alive forever. I appreciate your kind words and encouragement, thank you for sharing, I love to hear little stories like that. Best wishes! ❤️

My best childhood memory is when I made these little huts out of branches in the woods. I gathered all kinds of sticks to make a little home for myself, and then I pretended to live there. I actually tried to make "food" out of squashed leaves🍂 On that moments, I felt the most in touch with nature

My favorite childhood memories are of playing outside for hours. (1970’s California) I was and still am a tomboy. I loved Building forts in the bushes and catching tadpoles in creeks. I loved to explore in nature. I’m 53 and I still do. I’m coming back to the simple pleasures I loved as a child. I still always take the dirt path, talk to trees and say “ hi friend” when I come across any animal in nature. Currently I am working towards my own little cottage away from all the noise.

I am lucky to have many favourite memories from childhood, but something that I did with regularity was to take myself, a rug, a golf umbrella, my teddies, books, and some snacks to the no man's land by my house and have a 'picnic'. It brought me so much joy, to this day picnics are one of my favourite things to do!

My first memory was when i had to take a nap in the afternoon in Spring, being 1 year old. I remember the sound of cooing wood pigeons in the pine trees and the sound of a dripping faucet. I know watching the water drops growing and growing very slowly and catching more light until they fell. A very precious and idyllic memory. I can see and feel the whole situation right before my eyes as if it was yesterday.

Loved this video. Thank you so much. I have a lot of sad childhood memories, but I remember one that is dear to my heart. When I was about 4 years old or younger even, my aunt, who is only 15 years older than me, took me up to the balkony. It was nighttime and I was crying and not wanting to go to sleep. I was missing my mother. My parents always left me with my grandparents for the week, because they had to go to work. So my aunt sat down on a bench and she held me in her arms. Then she showed me the stars above, which shone so brightly and she began to sing an old german lullaby to me: "Weißt du wieviel Sternlein stehen...." It was magical and all these years I have not forgotten the love of my aunt, who sang to an "abandoned" and sad little girl.

My favorite childhood memories surround 2 areas of my life. Spending times with my grandmothers. Learning to live simply, gardening, canning, chickens, church, quiet life. The others are my need for nature, camping with my family, 2 weekends a month and a whole month in summer. Learning to respect our place in the natural world. These memories are all consuming for me. Filling my daily life now with happiness, allowing me to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and pray daily.

As a child I was fortunate to grow up in a city with heavy winter snowfalls and on a block with lots of other children. Roads where first snowplowed to the curb, then snow-blown onto small front lawns, then truck sanded for traction. These roadside hardpacked linear piles accumulated all winter and were perfect for both snow fort and tunnel carving and 'mountain ridge' walks to, and from, the elementary school. They were first packed down by the older kids and so, became easy to traverse by the younger ones (large piles cleared from schoolyards were conducive to boy's 'King of the Hill' games which many could win if for only brief periods). In the Spring there was a large amount of snowmelt water flowing down the curbsides. Before all the traction sand was cleared we built curbside sand dams to see how much water we could hold back. Then, by breaking the dams near the curb we'd launch miniature boats we'd recover further down the street. Happy memories! Thankyou. All the best.

I grew up in a home with a nursery school in it - my Mom's. And, of course, worked there on occasion so I may know 3 to 6 year old kids nearly as well as you do. I love their innocence, spontaneity, honesty, and humorous without even trying nature. They're seeing the world through brand new eyes - something that if we would occasionally do, might improve the quality of our perceptions profoundly.

Growing up on the cove of a river is one of my most favorite childhood memories. We lived in a house that was not insulated and falling apart, but come spring we spent so much time out at the banks of the cove that it helped forget any of the negatives in our lives. We’d spend the days catching frogs and crawfish, being chased by geese, and watching the turtles.

I lived in many countries and every one I entered with eager knowing I would find the fairies by the brooks, amongst the rustling of the leaves in the woods, the sands of the deserts and the waves of the seas. My sister was Tinkerbell (naughty - she nicknamed herself) and I the 'nice' one. Along was born a third sister who imbibed the very essence of true love. Now we cannot imagine our lives not being intertwined forever and with other 'sisters/brothers' we have joined along the way! In retrospect, I think we would all three agree, we are still the same, playing with and loving each other from this world of imagination-real and wanting from that.... to spread this love to others. Thank you Cottage Fairy for reminding me!

I have two favorite memories as a child outdoors. One was walking late at night after a deep snow with my family. The snow absorbed all the little noises, so that it was extra quiet and so serine as we walked on the paved road in the lovely moonlight. Another of my favorite memories outdoors is when we lived next to a lake. I loved playing on the beach and drinking cocoa cola in glass bottles. As far as becoming more childlike goes, I used to dance a lot. I was on my toes all day long dancing through my day and making up new melodies as a child. At 5 years old I did nothing for two weeks but sit next to the window and write as soon as I could write phonetically. Seeing nature and hearing beautiful music, and hearing an inspiring story or revelations of the soul are all things that make my soul dance. If a friend wants to know how I’m doing the correct question is not,” Are you happy,” or how are you doing?” but,” Have you been dancing?” For it is when I am dancing that I am the happiest. I don’t want any of my friends to go through life just getting through it. We should all stop to smell the roses as you do, play some music and really pay attention to everything and everyone we have to be thankful for. For it is in those moments of gratitude and worship that I begin to dance. I don’t dance so much to be seen but to express myself. For me dancing is not a profession but something I do only for myself before God. Getting back to my true self is remembering to dance, read, write and compose music as I did as a child. I’m a sensitive spirit so I enjoy your shows very much. I very much relate to your hobbies as they are the type of things I used to do before I got too busy. Watching your show brings me back to feeling not just like a child but observing how life should be still today. Thank you for your shows.

Paola ...much of what you do , like reading, painting, creating....outside and inside, is all very familiar to me. As a child while living in a cottage with no electricity, ...reading, painting, buildings shelters in the forest, fishing, picking flowers, fruit and mushroms were the key free time activities. However for many years, time and work, and new digital channels and tools have led to another way of living. But NOW, the experince and interests from my childhood will take more time, reading never stopped. Now I will take up painting again, just recently I bought paper, colours, brushes for water colors. I bring my magnifier while searching for insects and flowers, like I used to do as a boy, and much ore. Your videos and stories from your cottage is so inspiring

I started a short story awhile back that reminds me of you. Little Lilly lolly gagged down by the lillie pond. Her mother went away one cold winter leaving her and her Papa in a cottage in a beautiful meadow. Her mother taught her to Crockett. The only gift she had left her. One hook lost it's ability to hold yarn. Her Papa found an broken willow stick on a cave one day and he had carved two new crochet hooks for her. She'd sit by the lillie pond and crochet little dolls to keep her company. To her amazement her dolls came to life. Lilly finally had the friends she's so longed for. Unfortunately they couldn't swim with her in the pond for they would surely soak up the water and drown. She had an idea...she would pound out the reeds and make yarn. It worked. Now she had dolls that could swim with her. They would splash all day in the pond. Now the other dolls would watch from the shore saddened by this neglect. That's as far as I got. That was some years ago and I'm afraid I don't have it in me any longer. I'll write again but this story must go on without me. Maybe it can travel from soul to soul to take up Lilly's life so she may live on in the hearts and minds of many.😌🙏 Oh, I forgot to tell you the stick her Papa found was a magic wand.
