Patt Kelly explained this perfectly to me . Use a lot of presure with but od rod and keep it low . Remembered his advise couple days ago when i had 20+ carp on 5w . Thanks Pat and Bryan . Always enjoy Mad river ! You guys are best !

Man this makes me miss living in Hawaii - caught tons of bones wading the Hickam Air Force Base flats around the mangroves. Learned to fight a fish real quick after losing several lol😅.

I just realized people never use nets on Bonefish…. Is there a reason for that? I have seen so many videos of people catching bonefish but come to think of it, no one uses a net…?

We actually have a few videos on the channel where they are using a net. Brian doesn't travel with one though and Shawn sometimes has one, sometimes not. Hard to get stuff like that in the Bahamas.

Fighting fish with a fly rod boils down to the same as fighting fish with any other gear: the line should always be moving, either going out or coming in. Always keep your rod bent and tension on the line.

Today I learned pointing the rod in a different direction somehow changes its physical properties. Must be a magic rod!

Lol. Geometry, physics. Lower angle, different force, bends the rod differently.

@@Thundergatocat it’s more the second thing he said - more line in the water = more drag. The rod acts as a spring (a shock absorber) no matter what angle it’s held at. And with bones you don’t need to worry about jumping like say a tarpon.

When the fish swims left of the angler the rod goes to the right and vice versa. The fish is always swimming against resistance. When held upright the line is just following the fish.

You fight the fish with the butt of the rod and not the tip. It in fact dramatically changes the amount of pressure on the fish. He has quite a few other videos on this subject that you should watch. 😀

🐟👃 smells like bonefish ... i caught one sunday it hit like a train got it in my net picked it up and slip off my hand trying to take a picture and off it went 🐟
