How to Fill a Hole with Silver Solder in a Finished Seam on a Silver Pendant ( Without Destroying Your Piece!)-I'll show how to fill a hole in a finished seam on a silver pendant with silver solder. A ding, hole, or depression can happen in a silver seam in a lot of different ways but I'll show you how to fix it, even when you have already completely finished soldering the pendant.
To learn everything about how to solder like a Rock Star, check out my book, Soldering Demystified and all my jewelry tool favorites here:

"..... it loves to reflow and move like an a$$hole ..." 😂😂 My solder gets named 1 of my 3 categories - A$$hole - Mutha F'ker - Shit it worked?! ...all depending on the attitude of the materials...lol Just struck my funny bone when I heard you say that! Btw - I find it totally refreshing to hear someone else speaking like I do while working or describing work!! I have days where I use "f*ck" like comma ! Studies have shown that cursing can reduce stress ... true story. Cheers to your apocalypse from my apocalypse!!

I have no doubt that swearing works like a release valve, and jewelers have a lot to release! When I started making these videos, I decided I would show things(and me) as they really are, since that would be most helpful. I maintain a strict- no bullshit- policy. :) I hope our apocalypses are almost at an end, would love to see you in the studio. :)

This is so helpful! I didn’t think I could fix dents and dings with solder! Thanks Jeanette! ❤

Thank you for this video. I usually use liquid flux but this is one instance where paste flux is probably the best.

Hi Linda! You are very welcome. :) I usually use paste flux but whatever gets the job done.

Great tip! I can’t for the life of me, get my solder to flow as fast as you do. Were you using easy solder? I use a Smith’s Little Torch, with acetylene and oxygen. It take me so long, my metal warps (baseplate)!!
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts Год назад
I never use Easy, it has a yucky color and lots of other undesirable traits. Hot and fast is the way, maybe try a larger tip?

Question: why was the flux added first and not all together flux+solder? is this a general technique or just because you were filling the little hole in? thank you!
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 7 месяцев назад
It is just an attempt to keep the solder in place. :)

@@JewelryArts can I use this technique at any stage ?

Thanks... Very informative... Well done. I would like to get rid of engraving on a flat shaped, silver plated piece... then engrave something else in the same area. I had thought that I could solder silver over the engraving and thusly proceed... Might you have any thoughts or recommendations about this? Thanks again...
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 2 года назад
You can do that but normally if you heat to soldering temperature for silver, the plating will be damaged. Is this something you made yourself?
@dmprdctns

@@JewelryArts Thanks so much...! That was juicy! It is an antique piece. Wouldn't a low temp solder do the trick, you think? Thanks again...
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 2 года назад
@@dmprdctns A low temperature solder would be the way forward BUT if the piece has value as is, altering it would probably decrease its value. Just something to consider. :)

Awesome! Not sure about what solder you used. What kind of % is it if it is?

Hmmm, we use 4 solders, Intense Temperature (IT) Hard, Medium, and easy. We used the medium solder here and we purchased it from Myron Toback here in NYC. :)

What if there’s a chip or dent and you have a stone set in the bezel already? Do you have to take the stone out
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts Год назад
Unless you have a laser solderer, you would normally have to remove the stone in most cases. :)
