On how to drain a waterbed, I think your Arnold Schwarzenegger impression was spot on and the most important thing I learned was to fill the left side not the air relief😃 valve side. Thanks so much!

I want to thank you for both videos of filling and emptying a baffled water bed. Recently lost my husband, so am selling ours. I had no idea who to empty it. Wish me well, as I am off to purchase a hose and get this thing started. I shared your video with the new owners too.

Pal im 60 I've been filling and emptying my bed countless times over the past 50 years, you want 0 wrinkles on the bottom of a mattress, the can split out. I've used the same mattress over and over I've had them last 20 years before developing a leak. The smoother the bottom the better. On my last 3 cal kings I filled them with air tight then put them in position, its also a good way to test for leaks. After 39 years my wife bought a waveless mattress I was looking for installing instruction as its a type I've never done. What your doing is best done with 2 people pulling both sides but it isn't the best. Now with that said back to my search. As for comments are they bad for your back are they dangrous will it flood your house all that shit is bullshit, ive had the conner of one burst from being 20 years old I can tell you not one drop of water made it to the floor from the bed. I've gotten water on the floor from a hose a few times. Ive had 3 waterbeds in my house at one time. Yes they can use more energy, but you can also put a comforter and pillow top cover over one and unplug the heater its still warm enough to sleep on. Once its warm it can keep its heat a long time by covering it up dirring the daytime. Its not using as much energy as you think This bed i have came from my aunt and uncles watered store they owned in thec70s it was one of the first stores in the city, my sister bought a cal king that was 3 times as thick the first year they were made I think I was 14 at the time. I've refinished mine once and used the bed sides off my kids beds as a pedestal for mine. I've even been on the orignal desine that had no frame it was round it was the only one I've ever seen like that. We used to only stay in motels and hotels that had waterbeds. You cant find them anymore. But ive never had to turn in an insurance claim on one. Ive even had heaters go out.

a quick trick to make it easier before filling it with water, Take a shop vac and fill the mattress up with air first. It will make it easier to move the inside stuff into place. Let the air out then fill with water

The weight of a waveless mattress is the reason I switched to a free flow. It took a couple nights to get used to, but now I love it and I can drain it and move it with ease. Comes in handy when you want to paint :) I connected my hose to the sink and filled with lukewarm water - ready to sleep in a couple hours. I love, love, love my waterbed.

Thank you so much Travis and Company! It's so nice to have a man around the house! Even if it is only on You Tube!

We've just emptied our old one (there was too much wrong with it to bother trying to fix it). It took about two hours, including getting the room ready for the new bed and dumping the old one on the back of the ute (pick-up) not to mention five bath towels. You see, we didn't have a waterbed draining kit. The hose had to be stuck straight into the waterbed's water inlet. This time I intend to look after my bed: put the conditioner in regularly for a start!

Best way to work the air out with one plug pulled up and open lay acrossed the headboard and roll your body down to the plug the pull your arms down and legs up to the spout and no the water not going to come out of the bed maybe a little can but it won't flood the house. I do this all the time you can leave the plug in untill you get the air to the spout then let it out slowly. We used to use a broom handle to move the air to the spout. But laying down sideways works better. Oh by the way last time I did that I weight 226 lbs. @5' 7" tall.

Other than being a bit Snarky Jay Tatro is correct, use warm water from the nearest sink with an adapter and it wont take days for the ultra slow waterbed heater to get it the right temperature. Thank you for posting the video. I am refilling ours as the heater does make the water evaporate overtime and requires a topping off after a while and I was looking for how to know just When it is full.

Great video, thanks! I just bought used waterbed to see if I like it and it has same type of core, didn't know what to do with the stuffing inside. I filled mine with warm water.

Well, Travis, I now know another reason for my choice of dual mattresses! (In the beginning it was mostly that one of us might like the bed warmer than the other, or want more water in the bed than the other.)

You're right Laraine, water beds are a lot of work! I told him I'll only trade out for a temperpedic though so I think we'll have it forever haha!

That would get pretty pricey replacing the mattress every time we move! We've moved our waterbed 11 times in the last 8 years. That's a good idea if you have an extra heater though, thanks for sharing.
@modernhomemakers

That doesn't sound fun at all! Glad you managed to get your new room all set up and you're right the conditioner is important.

Hook the hose up to the hot water heater. It will come out hot at first then after the hot water is gone the water will be cold. Evens out by the end and you have warm water instantly.

You're supposed to use the faucet adapter on the bathroom sink faucet to put warm (Not Hot) in the mattress. Is this your first waterbed?

Do a video on where to find sheets and how to make up your waterbed pretty please . I'm having a hard time finding queen size sheets :(
@modernhomemakers
@modernhomemakers 6 лет назад
Sadly I no longer have the waterbed (moved to a place where I couldn't have it) But I have a trick that always worked for me with waterbed sheets (which I found impossible to locate). Whatever size bed you have, buy fitted sheets for a bed one size bigger. So my bed was a queen, and I always bought king sheets. This allowed plenty of space to make it work. I hope that helps :-)

my water bed took about 8 hours to heat up, make sure you put the heater in the middle of the waterbed, it heats up a lot faster
@modernhomemakers
@modernhomemakers 10 лет назад
It sure does take a long time for the waterbed to heat up. We always pile on extra blankets between us on the bed for the first night or so... it's better than sleeping on an air mattress :-)

Hi, I mistakenly brought a waterbed mattress, I thought that I was buying a water pad to go on top of our regular mattress. Do you think that I'll still be able to use the waterbed mattress without a frame?

don't you need reenforced floors?? if you do how much do they cost??
@modernhomemakers
@modernhomemakers 10 лет назад
We've never had reinforced floors before so I don't know how much they cost. I think you'd have to gauge how much your house can handle. I know some apartments won't allow waterbeds but I don't know if it's because of the flood risk or the weight.
