Thanks for another practical and helpful video! Where we live in Heredia/Central Valley, we are blessed with easy bus access to Heredia, San Jose, Sarapiqui, Volcan Poas and other locations. Uber is convenient and inexpensive, too. We are glad to not need a car in Costa Rica.

Great video. People are so easily taken advantage of. Not just in Costa Rica, but everywhere. You have to do you due diligence when making a purchase. Investigate and ask questions.!
Good information to know Michael, Allie. I witnessed a car and a motorcycle crash in San Jose at a very busy time of day. The police did absolutely nothing to clear the accident or help, they stopped briefly and kept moving. I asked the employee at the dentist's office, why did the police do nothing and how is this handled through insurance, and he told me it's not their responsibility and most people carry no car insurance. This to me is a losing situation for any vehicle owner. What would car insurance cost there and is it worth buying? Thanks.
What amazes me is how many people in Costa Rica on automobiles. In a country where the average income is probably less than 20 grand a year, and a car costs double that of one in the United States, the streets and highways are a buzz with automobiles. And gasoline isn’t cheap either. When I have hired an Uber, the price I pay is generally half of what I pay in the US. So, how do they do it?
The only way to buy a car here is getting a debt for about 5 to 8 years basically, thats the way 99% costaricans do. Taxes increase a lot the prices of buying here
Good stuff. 2 thoughts...Do they still waive car import fees if you own property over a certain dollar amount applying for residency and if you ship a new car with warranties, does CR comply or lets say Toyota allow/comply?
(Marchamos)Registration is also thru the roof, import taxes 50-70%, tolls all over, yet the infrastructure is 💩. Definitely a money grab from the politicians, a freaking $15 shirt costs $40 in Costa Rica and it’s all the extortion you got to pay to get your stuff there. I’m gonna have to run for president there and make some drastic changes, seems like me fellow Ticos love getting ripped off, I tell my cousins, the car you drive I can get for a fraction of what you paid and they get mad at me, specially If criticize their handlers. Purdy Motors is the only dealership in CR that is authorized to sell new Toyotas. Anybody else claiming to sell new Toyota is reseller. Purdy's prices are set by Toyota. On average, they are 10-20% higher than in US. Indeed, used cars are about twice as expensive than in US because in CR they don't depreciate as rapidly.
