How are the cribs made and then weighted to hold?

I fish a lake that’s deep so my question is how deep will crappie go when I start looking for them. Thanks
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie Год назад
It will depend on the time of year. Crappie will be in the deepest water during the winter months. I wouldn't look deeper than 30ft during this time. It snot that you can't find crappie deeper than 30ft, but the mortality rate of catching fish deeper than 30ft is very high. During the spring crappie will move shallow to spawn and can be found in a foot of water.

Where I live making brush piles or cribs is illegal. So they are few and far between. Our weed edge in almost all lakes near me is 18 fow. Crappies are in schools along that edge. I use my trolling motor to troll at 0.6 mph with those minnows and a small tube about 2 ft above it. I just ease along the drop off dragging those behind. I caught 3 crappie at one time 2 on one rod and 1 on the other. I caught like 50 crappie in a couple hours. Some up to 13 in. Good to see you back on here. I miss your videos.

Hey Davis! Here's a tip I came up with that I've never even tried yet...when vertical jigging deep tie on a slip bobber string around that depth you want and adjust accordingly 😉
@JustJigit
@JustJigit 3 года назад
You can use a permanent marker too, different colors for different depths.
@reruiz85
@reruiz85 3 года назад
This is exactly what I do when fishing for crappie in deeper water. Use a string bobber stop in your line at an estimated depth. Once you find them move your mark up or down your line. So much easier to see and you can just cast your line out and reel down until your bobber stop is near the top of the water surface. No stripping line or magic markers

What the best unit for clearest image on di HB or Garmin
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 10 месяцев назад
It's not so much the manufacturer but screen quality and transducer that gives the best image. The better screen resolution, the clearer the image will be. I currently run a Garmin GPSMAP 8610xsv which is 1920x1200. This gives a super clear image for DI and SI. Some of the 5inch screen are only 720p resolution, so the image will not look as crisp when compared my 8610xsv.

Thank you Davis for all the awesome videos. I especially love the ones showing how you find the crappie and structure with the fish finder, 2d downscan and side imaging. A lot of us don’t have livescope so we can’t relate to that. 😊

Hey Davis, nice video! I could be wrong, but on SI or DI with Garmin, if you press the “mark” button at the bottom of the screen it marks the boats current location. If you’re using the screen cursor to mark something back in the history or out the the side, I was told to use the tear drop waypoint icon in the top right corner of the screen. If you’re not having issues finding your waypoints, then nevermind! God Bless!

I’m new to crappie fishing, well fishing from a boat in general… what’s a good tip if I don’t have spot lock on my trolling motor, I can mark the spot, float back to it, but then I’m throwing my anchor off the boat and absolutely messing everything up… should I stay back like 10 ft and cast to it? I want to jig right above it but I feel like my anchor screws me
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 2 года назад
I recommend staying off to the side of the spot when throwing the anchor the casting to it.

Davis, good morning to ya (it's 6 am here in Alabama). Quick question for my issue I am having with my Garmin Echomap 93SV UHD model. So as I am Side Scanning, I see a brush pile or a school of fish, I pause sonar and put the cursor on them and tap the new waypoint icon, then click go to. I follow the arrow and upon arrival, it says arrived. I look on down imaging and can't find the brush or fish. What could be the issue, if any? Thanks.
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 2 года назад
I personally don't like using the go to function. I use the split screen (side imaging/ GPS) and zoom in on the GPS map as close as possible. I then try to line the boat up with the waypoint. When I'm close I may switch to down imaging or 2d sonar and then throw out a buoy marker
@southerngurlfishing2561
@southerngurlfishing2561 3 года назад
Do you just hold it there over the brush pile or reel it over them?
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 2 года назад
Sometimes both. It depends on the bite. They could want to jig moving, in which case, casting and reeling the jig over them is best.

Be carful. He marked the first waypoint incorrectly, should have push button on top right on screen. Instead he accidentally marked his boat location not the historical position
