How to Find SHINY POKEMON in Caves, Deserts and Water with the DEXNAV! Pokemon ORAS

This tutorial shows you how to find shinies in Caves, in the desert and while surfing using the Dexnav device in Pokemon Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire. There has been a lot of questions about this on my stream so I figured I'd make a quick video discussing the ins and outs! Basic Info:
-Carrying Repels is useful!
-Chain doesn't MATTER! Chain Length doesn't impact Shiny odds
-Encountering 4 Pokemon and running is most effective in this method
-Acro Bike hopping helps to not waste steps and reset the Dexnav

Thanks aDrive. I always had trouble at Hunting with the Dexnav in caves, desserts and sea because of the fifth encounter. I never thought about just runaway from the fourth encounter in order to avoid it to even happen.

I just caught a shiny gabite using this strategy. Before, I found it daunting to get a shiny in caves, water or in the desert. I always ended up giving up. However, this video helped me get my very first shiny desert pokemon. Thanks aDrive, such a big help.

Great video! I've been wanting a shiny duskull for a long time. Once I stopped getting upset about the chain, I was able to find one within 40 enounters. I know that's a pretty extreme example, but it definitely proves the point.

You can do the DexNav search while hopping on the bike! Try to tap the search icon at the same rhythm the bike bounces, right when it touches the floor.

My fastest "chain" for DexNav shiny hunting was actually in the desert. I got my shiny Trapinch after 115 encounters and was it a challenge. I'm a beginner so I just went in blindly and got pissed off quickly because of how much she moved around. Thankfully, though, she was a good mon with four IVs and is a total beast now as a Flygon. DexNav is wonderful and I'll continue to use it in the future (I've gotten 5 Shinies so far and my longest was a shiny Chatot at 865 encounters)

A question: how long does it normally take you to find a shiny in a cave? I don't have the shiny charm, and I am currently at 841 encounters for a shiny Axew.

I'm going to try this. I've been trying to get a shiny Aron via hoarde-farming, and I've had NO luck. I even have the shiny charm. I've gotten tons of shinies with dexnav chaining, but I didn't do it in caves because they are too fast, and they run away. It's even better now because I can search for the Aron I want, rather a chance of it being a Zubat or Loudred instead. Thanks for the video!

Does the same thing apply if you're DexNav Chaining in the Grass where you can just go to the 4th pokemon then brake the chain or is it different for grass chaining?

hey bro great video. my question is I'm shiny hunting for a bagon in that tiny cave but i can never even start searching for it it will always show not found on dex nav and yes I've caught 3 bagons there before. After i catch one i cannot find another in dex nag. Any tips?

I need clarity. So if you scare away or run away, it doesn't matter? The chances will still be the same? Also, if you find a random pokemon pop up (like bike hopping and a random pokemon shows up on the dexnav) it still continues the chain?

Hatched my first ever shiny Pokémon from an egg, ever! And it was a piplup!!! And I got a shiny treecko starter on my 2nd play through of Alpha Sapphire! I never gave up and I got 2 shiny starters! I didn't give up, and on a side note I've been thinking about starting streaming my shiny hunts because I've found a lot and think it would be fun! I am just wondering what equipment I would need to stream my 3DS!

Good thing the chain length doesn’t matter because I was trying to chain a Trapinch in the desert last night and the highest my chain got was like 7. I got super frustrated because getting anything past a four chain made it absolutely hell to reach in time.

Hey adrive, I have been watching ur shiny encounters and they are amazing. Im trying to get a few shinies now. Question: will it make any difference if u save and turn the system off then turn it on later and keep trying? Another question: also I have the shiny charm too but im just curious to know what the shiny rate/ratio is with the shiny charm using the dexnav

I tried using your advise in deserts because i'm hunting for Trapinch but one of its abilitys: arena trap prevents me from running half of the time but i'll keep trying!

Now It is probably way too late to tell you this but since other people may have the same problem i'll still do it. You can use a ghost type pokemon in order to run away even if the pokemon has arena trap. If you haven't advanced in the story enought to reach where they live then the GTS is your friend. Also if the level of your ghost type pokemon is too low to always escape then you can get smoke balls from the koffings at Fiery Path and give it to your ghost.

I’ve heard that a chain of 50 and 100 affect shiny odds and multiple streamers on twitch have verified and one has sent me a counter that tracks chains for dex nav, chain fishing and poke radar. Many of those streamers are friends of yours and in their opinion support the 50 or 100 chain theory. Can you confirm or deny this theory?

Actually chaining dose affect shiny odds but only on chain of 50 and 100 So 5 extra shiny ReRolls on 50 and 10 extra shiny ReRolls on 100, but since you won’t reach that high of a chain in caves or deserts. It doesn’t matter

Will it break the chain if you go to the pokemon centre to heal your PP, and is it possible to save and turn off the DS? Or will that also break the chain?

+KedKexKevin There is no chain it doesn't break. He says there is a chain, yes, but there is no impact on if you do anything, it just makes it easier to search for the pokemon faster instead of running until one respawns.

+Nuzzy'sChannel You actually can do the little dash in water. You just hit B, the same way you would in a Cave. And if it says "No Pokemon could be found" just swim in circles for a little bit and search again.

You get additional rerolls on the 50th and 100th chained pokemon and then the chain resets but that's about it, not really worth stressing or chaining for, so no chaining indeed doesn't really matter, i get piles of Shinies but NEVER on the 50th or 100th pokemon those rerolls are worthless, oh but do remember Shiny Charm rerolls help.

i still kinda feel like getting to a 5 chain or a five increment increases your chance be cause from my personal experience i get shinies 4 times out of 5 on a 5 increment. it might be just a coincidence though

Lance Sulton Chaining doesn't matter in every situation, HOWEVER, Chaining is the fastest way to encounter the pokemon in the shortest amount of time (without having the dexnav say no Pokemon could be found.) I recommend chaining in the grass to save yourself time, but breaking a chain in the grass (or cave etc) doesnt matter.

Die Kette spielt bei beidem keine Rolle, im Gras geht es nur schneller normal zu chainen da die pokemon sich nicht bewegen ;)

if a pokemon shows that you don't want it to be shiny do you scared it away,battle it,or do nothing just keep hopping until he's gone?

I am having SUCH an aggravating time trying to encounter a shiny Deino with this method. I am trying everything, but I keep taking too long to sneak on the pokemon, and it runs. Then I have to hop on my bike and HOPE that it decides to appear, and then when it does, it's like 50 steps away from me. How do I keep any sort of chain going here if I can't even begin a battle with the damn thing? :(

+Shaymin Gamer (LilyTheFeraligatr) Shiny Charm just increases the odds of getting a shiny but I'm sure you can still shiny hunt without it. (only if you don't feel like completing the PokeDex.)

Hunter Harrison You can, it doesn't matter. The reason you keep the chain going in the grass is to save yourself time so the Dexnav doesnt say "can't find a pokemon." which is caused by running. Either way is fine!

+Felipe Rodrigues (FELIPEWAT) It's accepted right now that just using the DexNav increases your shiny chances by a flat multiplier x16 (so the rate becomes 1/512). Any other factors including search level have no effect on the shiny rate

I did 200 encounters for a ralts and I never got it dexnav is so annoying

I got my first female ralts at the 86 encounter, the second one at the 356 encounter, the third one at the 538 encounter, all of them were female, but after that i didn't got a ralts until a encounter over the 999. I would say it was around the 1150 encounter, then it was finally the male one. It is just luck and a lot of patience. Trust me this is the easy and reliable way. Masuda metode may require over 1300 eggs in order to get one shiny. Hordes and chain fishing may give you a shiny faster but you could get things you aren't actually looking for so it may takes longer.
