👉 Learn how to find the percentile of a data set. The kth percentile of a data set is the data value that appeared in the kth position after the dataset has been divided into 100 equal parts. Thus to find the kth percentile of a dataset, we first divide the dataset into 100 equal parts, and then the data value in the kth place is the kth percentile of the dataset. If more than one data value falls in the kth place, their average is taken.

What about P/100* (n+1). It should be 0.2*(10+1)=2.2. Now get two numbers that are below and above 2.2th place, those are second 170 and third 174. Get their average (170+174)/2= 172. All the values below 172 are 20% of all data. Same method for 80th Percentile as well.

Wrong. 20th percentile should be 0.2 x (174 - 170) + 170 > = 170.8
@preciousvernellebonto9271
@preciousvernellebonto9271 4 года назад
@@FB-tr2kf it's also the same.In your case I see that you used interpolation method but if you happened to use Mendel and Sincich's Method just like what Hardeep used then it will also arrive at the same position--2nd which is 170. Interpolation method is just more accurate than Mendel's. I just didn't get why it happens to be 174 tho.

Hello You used *20* when solving for the 20th percentile. So why did you use just *8* for the 80th percentile instead of *80*

no, those two values are the 20% so 174 is the 20th percentile as 20% of the numbers lie below 174, make sense?

I had a math test today and i got a question wrong on finding the 30th percentile. The formula we used was b over 7 •100=30. So 7•30=210/100=2.1 and i rounded it to 2 and the second value was 18. But the answer was 20 (the third value in the data set). Is it because u round 2.1 to 3 and not 2.Some videos say that say the 30th percentile was 3 you would look to the third value in the data set and that would be the percentile. But then your video shows that if the 2nd percentile is 2 then you would go to the third value? Is it because you include the value AND the values below it or no? Idk if you will understand because it’s long
@brianmclogan
@brianmclogan 6 лет назад
It is all values that fall under that number so that is why 2.1 is rounded up to 3

If you have a whole number after finding the "locator" L, you're supposed to do (x sub L + x sub L+1)/2. This video was an oversimplification that some professors/teachers allow while others want the computation. And just to note, if you don't have a whole number for L, just round UP (not the same as rounding off).
