Dude this is life changing. No exaggeration I just learned the Song “En El Agua” by Tapones De Punta! There’s zero tabs and it’s a funky groove. In like 10 seconds I found the A Flat and immediately knew it was minor. Then in about 5 minutes figured out the Chord progression and started putting the walking lines connecting the chords! I’m blown away my ear is better than I thought and the little theory i know was enough to figure it out! Thank you I’ve just been so reliant on tabs for so long because they are so readily available but im going to start challenging myself! Never in a million years would’ve I believed I’d figure out that tune practically note for note in like 15 or 20 minutes 🤯 🙏

This is amazing congrats! That's so cool that you pushed yourself to not read the TAB and you managed to figure out all the notes. I'm so glad you enjoyed the lesson :-)

Pls I have a question. How do you really know the next note or key to play when listening to a song you intend to play

Hey thanks for checking out the video so to answer your question... now I think what you're referring to is developing the connection between your instrument and what you're hearing in your head. This comes with time and spending more time with the instrument but the best piece of advice I can give is to sing what you play. So here's an exercise you can use... next time you go to transcribe a bass line before you work out any of the notes on your bass sing the bass line first. Once you can confidently sing the bass line then match the pitches you're singing to the notes on your bass. Another thing I love to do in my practice routines is to improvise melodies and then try to play what I just sang, on my bass. If you've every heard of the guitarist/singer George Benson he is a master at this. Once you start developing this connection between your ears and the instrument and you start transcribing lots of songs/bass lines you will start t recognise common chord progressions and you'll use a bit of theory (as well as your ears) to very quickly identify the notes, chords and bass line. Hopefully this helps and let me know if you have any more questions as I'm happy to help 😊
