How To Find The Safest Drinking Water For Survival - Best Way of Locating Good Spring Water Tips 

When I was really young, I remember going to my Grandpa's place back yard and I saw water seeping/flowing down and fast too. I ran inside and told my Grandpa I've found a spring. He came and inspect it... He was like, that is the neighbor's laundry discharge! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Even in survival situations, water should be boiled if possible. Almost all of the springs we’ve tested for work were under the influence of surface water, which means they can or do have pathogens like cryptosporidium or giardia. And those will mess you up much worse than E. Coli, which could also be present. In the 3 counties I’ve covered, I’ve only ever seen one spring where water was safe to consume without any treatment

I remember drinking directly from a spring I found at Bastrop State Park in Central TX. I was a teenager and was so excited. Drank it up and filled a gallon jug home with me. DIdn't make me sick - by the Grace of God! 🤣

Jon, What you said about finding that spring was very good. However you forgot one other very important factor. You still need to know what is up hill from your spring. If you continue up the hill and it tops out on the top of the hill/mountain then you are ok. But if say you continue up a couple of hundred yards and you find agricultural fields then do not drink from the spring. Fertilizer from the fields will be in the ground water.

Tip: remember if your from the UK or somewhere with similar environments and climate. This isn't the best thing to rely on. For example, when he said look for moss. That just won't work because there's moss basically everywhere in UK forrests especially in autumn and winter because it rains more often. I would say you should type up what country your from when looking for survival tips because the UK has different animals from America. Even Scotland (UK) has different animals from England. We have adders (deadly snakes) in Scotland while i don't believe they're in England at least they're not as common. Although I must also say, watching them without typing in what country your from is also good. Maybe even type in specific climates because you may even be in a plane crash and have to survive somewhere freezing or somewhere boiling and in the middle of nowhere.

For me and me only I would take my chances with an underground spring if in a survival situation. Dehydration can kill you within 3 days depending on many factors but 3 days on average. Could be a bit longer but could be a shorter. Cryptosporidium will make you ill within 2-10 days (average 7), Giardia will make you ill within 1-2 weeks. I will take my chances with them verses death by dehydration. I live in an area that I probably wouldn't be in the wilderness for too long, providing I was smart and left a trip plan with someone before I left but one never knows for sure. This all said, if I could filter or boil I would do it for sure but in a life or death situation, the above is excellent information for the safest way to obtain water without boiling or filtering if you absolutely have to. I gave this video a like a while ago i have never gotten sick i drink from ground and hillside springs un treated in the appalachian mountains unpiped unboiled and have never had any issues as long as you go to the source you will be fine if its backed up it has to be uncloged by removing rocks mud muck exc then you wait a few days and it becomes safe

I'd still go farther up & make sure it's not coming from a pond, lake Creek, just because it's coming from a hill side doesn't mean it's a natural spring, water flows down hill, but if there's nothing higher up then you know it's a spring, I still wouldn't drink it till it's been boiled

i used to drink from a spring that came out of the side of a slope...and there were farmers fields above us ...and we all drank from it regularly as children . and none of us got ill...

So I went up to a spring near here once where quite a lot of water was coming out from underneath a pile of rocks on a hillside. No water for quite a distance above. Looked great. Went up on top the hill not too far away and saw a creek that disappeared underground that had a dead raccoon in it. Another time I collected some fresh looking rain water from a depression in the top of a rock in the desert around here. I decided I'd collect a sample and take it home for a look under my laboratory microscope. Full of protozoa of many different types, some possibly harmful to health. I won't be drinking ANY water from wild sources without properly treating it first.

In southern Pa where I live the CCC in the 1930s made a concrete basin where springs came out on the side of the Tuscaroa mountain . We used to clean them out each year while in the area hunting.

Some people should be aware that alllll kinds of wildlife depend on these springs to live and so we should not hog up all the water to create ponds ECT that may soak back into the ground, but let it flow. I've seen people take pvc and pipe the headspring water all the way down to their house. The animals live up high away from dogs and guns and poison So we need to leave plenty of spring water flowing for them.

When I was little a couple years ago me and my friend went in the woods because there was a Huge mountain/creek type thing back there and we got a little bit lost and I deadass drunk some of the water and nothing really happend to me and I'm still fine idk if it's my immune system because I was outside every single day or I just got lucky

Good information but I am worried about what I see at 7:46 in the top righthand corner. Straight lines dont normally occur in nature and do i see what may be a small structure and possibly a pavement surface in the distance? The image is It is so brief I cant tell.

I drank several bottles from a creek in the mountains and took some home with me and it was clear yesterday but overnight there has developed a bunch of floaters inside and the water tastes bad now. Am I going to be ok?? I drank a lot of that shit. I feel fine but I’m very disturbed

Drank from a stream in MO a couple times.

Crayfish is not a indicator of clean water. In Ontario Canada I live near the Grand River and I'm up ten km from the headwaters. This river is a working river that means it's used for farm tile drainage and towns effluent water from sewage treatment plants. Now I live inbetween the first and second town out of the 26 that uses it for effluent drainage and it's full of crayfish. I know fields that use human waste fertilizer that drain into it. The third town using it is known for quality brown trout fishing.

I drink mt shasta Sacramento head waters.... and it tests clean good ppm ... but after I glass bottle it after two days it tests contaminated!!! With same ppm but test turns red which means contaminated. So at the source??? Clean Bottled? Contaminated Help please!

We have 13 springs on our farm and everyone I have drank out of it’s a 7th generation farm where my grandparents and so on all lived off the springs I’ve never heard of anyone getting sick I’ve drank out of every creak and water system in my area some having beavers and cow shit in them I must be a super man if I never gotten sick or maybe it’s because I drink this that I don’t get sick never drink still water!

What about just catching the water out in the open? Where the water only hit bucket?

Portable filter mechanisms are small, light and easy to use. Iodine tablets are available for those with no thyroid problems. Why take a chance, unless you are in a life or death situation (highly unlikely in PA)

I'd still boil it or at least filter. I appreciate your water searching. Please can you do a do's and don't for water collection. For example you covered streams and rivers but what about ponds, or lakes does the same principal apply?

About 10 years ago I switched my family from city water to Bottled spring water( one of my kids refuses an drinks Dasani mineral water)just in case something went down we would be able to adapt a lot faster to the spring waters in the area
