Good job man, enjoyed every word learnt a lot as I am 72 and new to the American home construction, I come from a world where houses are built with cement

I'm feeling pretty stupid right about now. lol I have been after my son to hang the TV on the wall he got me for my bedroom (didn't want one, but to a 20 year old, it's a big deal to have one in the bedroom) . He has been putting me off for the past two years now saying he needs a stud finder. I knew about this, my late husband did the electrical and plumbing when we added on our home, but I totally forgot all about it. I'm going to try and save grace by saying I was a mess after he passed away 3 years ago. Now, I'm not going to let my son use that excuse any more! lol Thanks for informing and reminding some of us.

That can work for sure. I am thinking of doing an entire separate video on that method. I have just never trusted it so I really never use it. Maybe I just do not have the ear/feel for it. Thanks for checking out the video! AND for being a loyal subscriber!

As I watch this, I realize that my house is made out of paper, my spacing isn't true. It is spread randomly because this house was made by an old landlord trying to cut corners.

You need to remember that stud measurement is 15-1/4" from the corner then 16" repeated. At a window you have a stud and a jack stud but below the window the 16" stud centers continue. This can vary depending from which side of the wall the carpenter lays it out.
@chrispixx
@chrispixx 2 года назад
Looking at your window shade, I must have installed mine wrong... because the roller part, yours go over... And mine go under. But I guess it could be like toilet paper, some people put it over and some people put it under.

How about doing one for a garage wall where there is no plug in. I'm having a hard time hanging some shelves in my garage and the stud finder keeps pointing out studs that aren't there.

No studs in your wall ? Do you live in a tent .
@matanadragonlin
@matanadragonlin 3 года назад
@@midnightrunner684 I live in a brick house 🧱. Mostly no studs or cavities in the walls. Yes there are shores oc. The brick walls are plastered or randered. On this we put wallpaper and/or paint. All walls are solid. Our sockets / switches are in the wall (flush-mounted). (Yes, we love dowels, too 😉 but more for solid walls instead of cavity dowels) Same as all electricity cables. All water pipes should be flush-mounted, at least in modern /newly built houses. Heating pipes can be seen of course, except for underfloor heating. Therefore we have to find the cables we cant see, too (hang a picture or a shelf eg). The tapping methode to indentify cavities by hearing is mostly useless here. 😟 There is a golden rule: All cables are flush-mounted rectangled and leading to the ceiling. So better dont drill a hole above a socket 😑😉 Useful are those detectors who can show you where all the cables, metal bars and water pipes are hidden in the walls. 😊 Our ceilings are often lowered so there is a cavity to gather and hide all electricity cables mostly right above the lamp. I am not sure if there are studs. But I guess so. Would be useful at least. (I seldom watch inside.) Unlike you, we got a lot of building and safety codes. 🙄 This makes it more expensive (material, craftsmen etc). Because you are often not allowed to do it by your own (electricity eg. We got 260V) and the outer measures of the house cant be changed easily. And simply wood is cheaper than brick. It is just different and I enjoy to watch building methodes of other countries. 😀

Or for me I can just lift up one of the drop ceiling tiles and see where they didn’t put drywall above it and see the studs. I’m not sure if mine are 16” on center because my house I 140 years old.
