Dude! Thank you so much for this video, I almost didn't watch it. I did my usual 5 mile path today and was mindful to try and push from the middle of the skate the whole time. I can't believe how much of a difference this made, i felt like I had more power, stability and control and I shaved 2 minutes off my usual time. No one's ever explained this so thank you!!

I just came back to skating after 10 years so i realise this is beyond me for now but I'm so impressed at how much mind-muscle connection or muscular intention (if that makes sense) skating involves! The only other time I've done something that demanded that level of consciousness was when I used to work out and i was introduced to the idea of mind-muscle connection and priming movements and rep tempos to help develop it and that is what I loved about working out.

Killer discussion. Great point about coaches calling for overcorrection (heel carve/push) of a problem to find a happy medium. I like calling the sweet spot of a balanced push that doesn't scrub speed that you refer to as "All Wheel Drive" And BTW awesome video editing and graphics, you are a total pro, please get a youtube channel going on that too, I'll be the first to subscribe and click on every ad that pops up!

Thanks! I find your tutorial really helpful, especially how you go into details, that helps me understand better what exactly I need to do. For example, in other videos people only said that where you need to keep your weight, without saying HOW to do it, and you're the first to say it has to do with ankle positioning.Really great explanations!

I am skating now for about 10 years and always "staying on the same spot" - I did not really improve my skills over the years because I'm still afraid of falling (did not fall enough.. ), still only able to use the back break f.ex. - I would love to see some content on getting more secure with/on skates in general, like "how to fall avoiding your worst nightmares" 😅 Anyways - thank you for sharing your knowledge, Greetings from Austria :)

@freshasadaisy4782
@freshasadaisy4782 4 года назад
3x110 is very disappointing in my experience in comparison to a 4x80 or 4x90 setup. I dont know why but there is not much more speed to gain or maintain with three wheels. Maybe the stock wheels from Rollerblade are crap but i cant imagine there will be such a big boost from different wheels with the same hardness.

Hello I am a totally amateur skater. I skate because it is fun. Usually I ride 25Km per session on a 3×110 wheels, three or four times per week. It adds up to ~2500Km per year (Average speed of ~23Km/h). Luckily, I saw this video when it was released, about one year ago. Before this video, I felt or thought that the weight distribution should be equal on each wheels. I measured the diameters of the wheels briefly on every week, and more precisely when I cleaned the bearings and swapped the wheels. In 3-4 weeks times the diameter difference between the front and the rear wheels become 3-4mm. For example: front=105mm; rear=108mm The wheel size and the wheel wear, is not an instant feedback, but I think it is a pretty strong feedback about the technique. So, I started to pay (more) attention to the push phase, and in general. It was not easy and it is still not easy. I have to focus on every stroke, but nowadays the diameter difference between the front and the rear wheels is 0.5-1.0mm. @Joey Mantia Thank you for your tutorials.

I have lost little bit avg speed when changed 4 x 90 old rollerblade skates to 3 x 110 macroblades. I'm ice hockey player (played 30 years), so the travel speed and position is far from skating position on Ice hockey. I ordered new 3 x 125 skates from rollerblade to see, is the macroblade 3x110 really the problem, or are the lower 4x90 skates more like ice hockey skates and naturally feels better. My top speed in flat are something under 30kmh, but the problem is keeping good, over 20kmh travel speed at several longer times. Great channel, had to try all the tips!

Hi Joey. Thanks for this video. Your fans really appreciate what you do!! I have been skating and racing on quads since 1978. Skating is in my DNA. For most of my life I have been able to compete, but now when I go to races everybody else in my age division is on inlines and the best finish I have had in the last 3 years is 2nd place. I finally got some Bont Z inlines and I started skating them yesterday. I have a terrible burning on my shin muscles when I skate. My guess is that I am doing something wrong. Or, is this something every inline skater goes through until they build those muscles over time? I must say that I like these inlines and I am already faster than I was on quads with a little help from a member of our speed team. He said he didn't know why they would be burning like that. Any ideas why the shin muscles would be burning would be appreciated. Thanks.

Great video, and thanks for details, i just have 1 question. I watched your video on the coin trick and understand what your putting down in both of these videos, yet what is the optimal boot to frame set up for both indoor and outdoor? I feel this would effect or change the balance. Thanks
@JoeyMantiaSkates
@JoeyMantiaSkates 3 месяца назад
Appreciate the view. I have to give you a little bit of an annoying answer and say there isn't necessarily an ideal spot to put it. There's certainly no body or boot reference that you can use and immediately just have the "correct" offset, which is why the process tends to take a long time to get right. A lot of it depends on how well the boot is made and how well it fits your foot. Ultimately, you're searching for a feel of being completely connected to the wheels-- that's to say that when there's a change in edge (whether that is a subtle or aggressive change) that it happened because you wanted it to and not because the boot "fell" or "collapsed" that way. It's a feeling of control you're after really. The important epiphany you need to have in my opinion is that this doesn't come from JUST your frame setup. There's a lot that can/ needs to be trained to find that control, hence why I prefer to set it in a general starting spot and skate a week or so before I make any big changes to give your body a moment to see if it can adapt. At the end of the day if you have a poorly fitting boot, there's no frame position that will give you the control I'm talking about, especially on bigger wheels.
@TigerRacingProducts
@TigerRacingProducts 3 месяца назад
@JoeyMantiaOfficial no answer is annoying, its all knowledge, plus if it's the same as the motorcycle world I come from , I completely undertand. I think this is why I like skating, its super technical especially when your trying to be the best you can. I'm new only about 4 years on inlines, Jarret Paul was my first trainer and I caught on kind of quick. Also took a class with Elton De Souza just trying to feed myself good knowledgewhich is how I found you. I'm older and my body just can't do what I can see or what I want to happen yet but getting there. Just now starting to see and feel the differences in frame position, especially indoors. I can feel that you want to be on top of the wheel as much as possible. You can feel the wheel connect. Recently, in indoor which I'm brand new at, I noticed having to force the skate to a more upright position to keep from losing traction. I'm just trying to figure out which way to go. I also dont have an issue with putting the frane all the way I each direction and just feeling the changes. Also, after your reply, I think you are the only one who would probably agree with my decision to go down to 100's. The greatest positive change I've made recently in indoors. Sorry about the rambling on. Appreciate the valuable input.
