When I got pokken I knew nothing about Pokémon besides Pikachu, so I just chose the coolest looking pokemon (suicune) and know she’s my main! (Hi from 2020)
If I had any say in the Pokken Tournament DX archetypes, Decidueye and Aegislash would be standard due to their strength in all areas of combat, Scizor is likely evasive due to his better run, hover to bait out and avoid attacks, and quick attacks of his own, not to mention his dash chains. Same goes with Empoleon due to his slide mechanic and quick, deadly combos. Croagunk is definitely pressure, always wearing down his opponents with status debuffs, and the fact that his random projectiles have the possibility of being deadly. Blastoise is definitely defensive, as he baits out attacks with his shell form and either counters or applies literal defense buffs to himself, alongside great range and some projectiles. Now, last but certainly not least: my main, Darkrai. He is a tricky one. At first, it would seem as if he is a projectile, or even just defensive character due to his zoning and traps, but than his (effectively) second form (or mode), Bad Dreams Rising is activated, and then he almost becomes an evasive or pressure character due to his absolutely amazing set up options and combos, not to mention his buffed movement options. Overall, I'll put him as pressure, since his traps are able to be placed from a distance, and be activated from a distance, not to mention the sudden ranged attacks, like his charged up weak or back strong. And some of his attacks can also stun, further adding to that aforementioned pressure.
How I picked Main:I had three: My first main was Pikachu. I picked him because I thought that since he was the mascot, he would be the easiest to pick up. Pikachu was my main for all of the first game. When Pokken DX came out, I of course tried out all of the new characters. I found Empoleon particularly interesting. After I practiced for a while, Empoleon and Pikachu were my two top picks. Once I was in C3 Rank in Pokken DX, I fought a really good Garchomp. After testing the Action and Combo Dojos, I practiced some more CPU battles, discovering new combos along the way. After a week of practice, I took him online. Before I picked up Garchomp, there was nothing for me, I was almost C4 Again. Once Online, Garchomp got me all the way to B5 and the top 500 in points in the world. Garchomp is my current main, my secondaries are Pikachu and Empoleon.
I go by the "Waifu instinct", the most Waifu characters are my mains. In this case: Gardevoir Braixen Garchomp Because Gardevoir is a beautiful maid. Braixen is best magical grill and Garchomp is extra T h i c c
I really appreciate you dude, I'm a kind of player who watches top players with a character in a fighting game to learn and improve so I appreciate that you put people to watch at the end for a certain character, I want to say they are the best with that certain character buy I'm mew to the pokken community so I dont want to assume but thanks this really helped! :)
I picked Mewtwo first, then I kinda merged into a Shadow Mewtwo main. Shadow Mewtwo seems better for my style, weirdly enough. Low health? Meh, not that much of an issue for me. His attacks look awesome and can be really powerful in the right situation. Plus, I genuinely like a challenge. Playing Shadow Mewtwo is that challenge.
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO! It's been 3,000 years since the last VIDEO and great topic Dale! Personally I pick a character If I have emotional attachment. Like I main Pit in SSB4 because I love his game. In Pokken however I don't know who to pick honestly. Thanks Dale you helped me find my new main with this video, Blaziken. Thanks Dale!
Super awesome! I honestly laughed at the first strategy, because that's exactly what I did, right down to the example character! Treecko is my favorite pokemon, so when they announced Sceptile my first thought was "that's him. That's my main" Turns out I got lucky and picked a top 3 character ;P
Thank you for helping me out with this. I've had the game for a year but never really got into it, and I got the inspiration from the Pokkén Tournament DX E3 Invitational to start again. I like evasive characters so I think I'm going to try Weavile. Thanks!
To add on with the new 6 (soon 7) characters for dx, I'd classify Darkrai and Empoleon as pressure, Scizor as Defensive Croagunk as Evasive, and Decidueye as Standerd, and Ageislash as Defensive too
My buddy and I still play this game all the time on battle mode and it is always my Sceptile, Blaziken and Aegislash vs his Garchomp, Gengar and Pik Libre. Always a good fight.
Originally, I mained Chandelure, but stopped because she was not fun to play with anymore, and I’m pretty sure my opponents were annoyed when playing me too, when looking back at my replays. Now I use Charizard because the combos are rewarding to perform, (stylish too) and there are good combo starters (jab, fire punch, homing attack)
Thanks for this video, really well done. It was well explained and displayed, and the strategy for differing play styles was certainly the most helpful for me.
I have only played a couple of times and I found that gardevoirs ranged attacks best suit my play style. Also I like to scream at my brothers when gardevoir slaps em saying “ Gardevoir. Use pimp slap!!!!!”
Before I just played pikachu without combos but now since i have pokken tournament Dx I study combos to help my competitive side and I had the Wii U version
I think Weavile would be my main because it's fast, and sets traps. But I like to be sneaky and powerful- to do a lot of damage, manipulate, confuse, and trap. From what I've seen though, Weavile excels at being fast, doing little damage, is a trapster, and usually gets beat up due to that up close tactic.
I managed to complete a battle only in Field Phase. All you have to do is spam Braixen's back-A! Very cool! However, I main Decidueye and can Weavile. 🙂
I love Gengar but Machamp is my main, though I hardly ever play Machamp in a defensive way, I rush with him, yes I will "block" when I need to but for the most part I rarely need to.
Picked gengar because his personality fits mine. Im a real life troll and his s and weird tricky moves just help me mess with my opponents head. Of course optimal gengar is completely different, but I prefer playing the close quarter combat version.
I use shadow Mewtwo, and my sis uses Mewtwo. But my starter was lucario (I only use lucario for 5 of the battles), then I switched to Sceptile, it was my main! And Blaziken was my sisters starter.
I wanted the most underrated looking character (none of my like... 10 favorites were playable) but Chandy doesn't suit my playstyle at all. I still play him sometimes, but Weavile is quite the qtpie himself. Yay for Miis \o/
I was never into long range characters and I fell in love with using Suicune and Decidueye. Normally I use Suicune, even though I'm still getting good at performing multi-succession combos. I sometimes also use Weavile and Lucario if I want to switch up and do close range. Haven't tried Aegislash yet, heard that one is hard to use.
I picked my main by playstyle, i like fast pace characters so i main weavile. The good thing about choosing by playstyle is that characters can just click (which happened for me so when i started dx i had a 100% win rate for a long period of time.)
For one, I'm banking on Chandelure atm, but Aegislash is starting to tease me. Hard to hit characters are quite fun to use, though I do enjoy using my brain to wrap around crazy combos. I'll have to decide on these two.
I was playing through the story mode as Sceptile only until I finished it and unlocked Mewtwo. Since Mewtwo is one of my all time favorite Pokemon, I though "YO I NEED TO PLAY MEWTWO." Next thing you know, I picked Mewtwo, played around with him, and I never went back. Well.....Until DX came out where now I've gotten a bit more use out of Lucario and where my Boy Scizy is finally in the game. And don't even get me started on Decidueye lol.
Its easy to find my main with these simple steps. It can stun it can stun it can stun fast it can use multiple stun attacks it can stun it is fast it can stun stun did i mentiion stun?
I don't need to decide. Darkrai's obviously the best. Edit: I only need 3 characters: Darkrai, Gengar, and Gardevoir. I like her for 2 reasons: 1. She's my waifu. 2. She can shoot black holes. FREAKING BLACK HOLES!!!
I'm going to be getting the game soon. My fighting style tends to be more long distance, characters you actually need to learn and practice how to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I find it kind of a bit hard to pick a definite main so I tend to go play the new team battles on the switch version however Braixen was my main in the Wii U version so I chose her again for my story mode main.
i found my first main because i liked that pokemon. i used a different pokemon that i got recomended for a little while. i fought the other pokemon and i tried the other pokemon. thats how i found my new main. wevile
So if I were to choose my main based on strategy 3, who would be suited for a guy like me who enjoyed playing as Big Band from Skullgirls? (although admitttedly I didn't get too deep into skullgirls, I mostly just played cpu battles since there are only pros who must've spent like 1000hrs plus on the game in online mode) Anyone able to give a legitimate answer?
How I picked my main, did a team battle with Pikachu Libre, garchomp, and shadow Mewtwo, destroyed the three my brother chose, and then the bond with me and Pikachu Libre was formed
Braixen is my fav..But in fighting games long range fightiers arent the best for me.. I like to play with quick fighters that can pack quite a bit of damage Like Pichu In smash ultimate. What would be a good pick for me?
