This video has so much more value than the vast majority of other recommended videos under the search for "niching for artists" combined. Straight to the point with simple and clear reason and lean personal examples. Awesome contribution to the community, thank you.
Be true to your motivation in ART. If for money, then it is a business and there will be many factors to consider that may divert you from your true creativity. Balance is needed. Take it slowly and enjoy the creative journey
Hey M. Falconer, I 68 (will be 69 in May). I've had almost kind expectations you had. I started drawing and when I was really young, then I took piano lessons when I was really young and played for the church I attended. Then discovered Jazz. And studied photography some. I discovered I really like to draw. Do portraits of musicians in pencil. Thanks for helping narrow down what I really want to do. I still want to keep my music alive. Thanks again. From Kingsville, Ohio 🎉 😀 ❤
Girl if you could make this into a printable guide, it'd be litty. This brought SUCH clarity... so much so that I know I'm on baby step #1, which is, "make enough art to even find out what you like to make." Thank you!
Paused at the start to say 'thank goodness' someone who at the get go knows how to pronounce the word niche, I've no interest in listening to anyone giving advice on how to find your niche if they cant even pronounce niche :D Now I can carry on listening X
Thanks so much for help us!!! M. Falconer. I am a suramericanan 28 years old selftoch artist. And I am starting my art Business. You are a great Person, I love your Art !!! ;) ;*
I'm a 74 years old woman wanting to sell my art. I've read and seen a lot of articles/videos explaining 'niche '. Yours is the very best. It's not only clear but it includes the questions that you need to figure out for yourself to define it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤
It has been so difficult trying to choose a niche as an artist because I feel like it’s NOT like other businesses… when you emphasized focusing on YOUR MESSAGE and who would relate to that message… that really made the most sense for me, thank you
I've read and taken many courses. This is right to the point and no nonsense. I can't tell you how valuable I found this. Immediately Subscribed. Thank you.
Reach out to the audience you want to attract. Perfect. Thank you for sharing this video. I try to paint different variety of things and I unintentionally paint anything that symbolizes Puerto Rico. I am Puerto Rican, I can relate to this video and your message.
I guess I should stop painting birds if I don't want them to be my niche... or maybe they are part of it? I wanted to do portrait too, but you really showed that it can be more specific than just portrait, thanks a lot! Again, very informative!
Thank you for this! You are truly an inspiration. I'm currently trying to narrow down my niche, but painting commissions makes it hard to paint what I want to paint.
You know you've watched a good content when you like the video and subscribe to the channel. This is one of them. Thanks for your advice Melissa Falconer. It really helped me.
This tidbit of information is very valuable. As an artist I kind of have been standing in between making money and making art that I'm not thrilled about(pet portraits, landscapes) and being really good at and in love with making art that I'm interested in(pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi) and wanting to turn that into a lucrative business. This giving a statement as to what you can say about your niche is more informative than the other videos I've watched. It's very well thought out and personable in it's description. You have a great way of saying what you want to say to fellow artists and it shows you care about seeing others succeed. I'm subscribing for sure!
i've been an artist for 55 years. I wish that I had known these things when I was starting out. The art road would have been easier and more profitable! At 73 I'm starting over. Never too old to learn. Thank you so much for your video and all this great guidance!!
Thank you! This helps me narrow my, somewhat, hyper, artist within! I have too many art/craft categories floating around, fighting for dominance! I need to be more specific.
Oh my god, I just found your channel and it's so helpful. I have avoided business talk so much, even I know I need to learn about it if I want to make art related stuff for living in some point in my life. You somehow make it less stressful, so big big thank you!
This was fantastic advice! Truly helpful! Thank you! I put it on pause during every stage and ended up with my statement being "My art emerges playfully as a progressive game of self mastery. A thrilling and mysterious source of limitless joy. A wealth of treasures to hold and behold, born of thin air.”
I rarely comment on videos but I wanted to comment on this one because it is just that good. It says a lot that I have watched it a few times now. I like others have been trying to figure out my style and how to describe my art. This video lead to me polling a few folks for their thoughts on my work.. I am impressed that at such a young age you can articulate your vision and goal so clearly. You have a very distinct style that results in beautiful artwork. I also like your focus. Keep up the great work!
Let me begin by saying how much I appreciate how you broke things down so they're easier to understand. However I'm still having a hard time defining my niche. The art I make isn't really anything in particular? I'm lost :D
I have no interest in the business aspect of art, I just like to draw a ton but got damn this was a very entertaining video. Learned plenty. Keep it up!
So much clarity! Thank you so much! I am a vegan latin white man, from LGBT community and I resonate with your art and after watching this video, I resonate with your persona.
Great information I think I sometimes try to many different things I should stick to what I enjoy most. One of the most disappointing things that was said to me was, I love your art but I wouldn’t hang it in my house 🙄
That video is very well explained and has a lot of useful information. After watching that, I already knew my niche but now I can put it into words and a clear sentence. Thank you very much to share those information on your youtube channel.
I just want to say, I watch a shit load of Art Tube to grow my business strategy as an artist and let me tell you - this was the most concise and actionable advice I have come across yet. I hope your channel blows up. Love seeing fellow Canadian artists succeed
I have only watched a couple of your videos and have learned more than I have thought I would from just your videos. Very humble and true to nature, I wanted to say I personally searched "how to get back into art and launching my business". I wanted to get some ideas and watched other videos, then came across you! I got into art and painting when I was in high school starting in 2011 and slowly trickled off a year or two after graduating , so that's in 2017 when I stopped. I always known in my heart that I can go somewhere with my personal talent and just playing with different medias, I am 24 and know art and creativity is my calling. After finding your videos, you have gave me the information I either did or didn't know and more. Its been a rough couple of years for me and this definitely gave me a boost in what I want to do. Thank you
Ok first things first, you are very practical when it comes to the "idea of art" and that gives me a level of comfort, which i dont necessarily need but i most certainly welcome......"I dig yuh vibes" honestly, you seem real cool lolol....So, i came across your vids on youtube only today, wish i did a long time though. Your work is "impressive" to say the least, i dont have a hard time liking them.....am probably gonna be looking forward to seeing more of your work and even dropping you a couple of lines from time to time..... you made me pull for my book and pen tonight, yeah you had me jutting down stuff.....anyway, am considering making the move to a full time artist in 2022 "gods willing", thanks to Covid in some ways it revealed things to me, I really think its Gods way of prompting me to take on something ive been ignoring for a long time.....that is my ability to communicate through art, so i just want you to know that i see you and you work as a new source of insperation in my future "taking on's"..i'll be tuning into you for reference ok, and i'll send you pics of a couple of my artwork too, so do have a good night !!!!!
Wonderful info, and well put together. I love your work and your intelligence. You impressed me months ago. I am over 60 and white so you definitely cross over your borders of your niche.
Thank you! I have been racking my brain to figure out my niche! These are great questions every artist should ask themselves. I finally have answers from your content. Thanks again! New subbie btw!
This is too good advice for me, really liked your video as this has given me direction and guidance on how to choose & pick a specialized area👍🙏 . love & regards from India🧡♥️💙
This is a really dope n simple way to help someone establish there own business as an artist! Makes me feel like I need to rethink something for my niche n watnot on my channel! I appreciate the value n teaching in ya vid love! Keep doing ya thing!!!
Really great advice! Speaking as someone who went to art school but has resisted defining - and sticking to - my niche. It really is in our best interest to understand its benefits and embrace it. Constraints are good for creativity, that's what I am now actually learning to work with and this video speaks to that. Also, I love how you broke down how you defined your niche! Deceptively simple, and relatable - speaking as a non-black WOC
