Gotta hear the texture and weight of your voice and where your comfort zone is. Vocal range isn't enough to go by. I can get down to a Eb2 but my voice is definitely that of a mid to high tenor.

The comfort zone is what really matters. You you would just be a bass not a mezzo. You would be capable of high notes but that comfortable range would be in the bass area. And if it’s not then you would be a mezzo who can reach Bass notes. It really not complicated. I think the most full save way to find your type is to talk in our most comfortable speaking voice without trying to sound lower or higher and you’ll find the range pretty easy.

Yeah it’s called having a teacher not grounded in reality misclassifying you and leading to years of believing that you’re a different voice type than you actually are thus causing long term damage and faulty mechanics. I went from being told that I was a low voice and would always be a low voice to being told I was a high tenor by a world class professional and now my singing is so fluid and natural now that I’m not forcing a manufactured sound that isn’t inherent to my instruments capabilities. Your comment just sounds weirdly ignorant tbh. But the internets just gonna internet I guess.

This was the comment I was looking for. 🙏 Thanks so much, Tanner, for pointing out that the classifications come from a very specific historical context of opera singers (which is analogous to marathon running; it takes very strict training & technique to make sure you don't destroy your body/voice in the process) Outside of that domain, it's been surprising to me what's actually possible with my upper register (head voice) when I tried adding different vocal techniques to it during the last year or so (specifically the nasopharynx/mask + very, very light vocal fry, which fits a lot of rock and metal) I was classified as a "bass" in my HS choir (probably because they just needed more students to sing that part), and it effectively made me neglect developing my head voice for well over a decade. I've never been able to go lower than an E2 in my chest register (unless I had a sore throat then Eb or maybe D), and no one explained that these ranges are really for aspiring opera singers nor did anyone say "this range also includes the head voice, which you should regularly practice using to improve its tone" What made the mislabeling worse was that one of the choir teachers said that bass vocals don't really fully develop until mid to late 30's, so it made me think it was a waiting game for those lower notes. I eventually discovered subharmonic singing which is a lot of fun, but I realized that true basses weren't (usually) singing with that to hit a Eb2 or lower. Thankfully, I unconsciously gravitated towards singing songs by baritones like John Mayer & Scott Hoying which helped me finally realize that my choir teacher was wrong Ya know, it just occurred to me that the complete disaster that was the "food pyramid" in the US (which mislead a majority of ppl to think most of their food should come from bread and grains) is very similar to what can happen with these kind of vocal range charts. I wonder if there's a better way to represent the information?

No he wasn't, no one is, where did you get that from? I think he was a baritone, just from the top of my head, and not a big range judging only from the few songs I've heard, so you can surprise me with his soprano recordings! 😅

@@magusl9628He did have a very good range but his songs were mostly in that baritone range because thats his ideal voice. No one was all of the above but some can look like it if you go only by absolute range and inclue falsetto lol

you're a contralto with a well developed range. My range isn't exactly the general range considered for contralto, but when I sing casually along to the radio without warming up, the notes rhat are effortlessly comfy, like speaking, are contralto range. perhaps try that?

My mix is becoming very comfortable for me and so is my lower notes and chest notes as I’ve been practicing and getting better with them too which I’m still building on. My Falsetto is comfortable for me to sing in as always, but my Head Voice is what I’m trying to figure out as I practice the other parts of my voice.

My Chest voice coming from B2-D4 so far (I do feel tension hitting that C4-D4 area though and I am trying to figure it out and build).

First eliminate falsetto notes, and make sure the lows are in chest voice and not fry. Then go by the tone and what range you’re most resonant with and are more comfortable in.

Remember, it's not just your range that determines your voice type, but the color and texture of your voice and where you're comfortable.

Same question here. For me it's C3 to E5 most days including head voice. Sometimes starting a bit lower than C3. Pretty much every popular Popsong is to high for me. But singing the songs an octave lower doesn't work from start to end of the songs because then it's too low at certain parts. So annoying. Have no idea what voice type it makes me

Tessitura is not a voice type like the ones mentioned in this video. Tessitura is the "sweet spot" of your own voice - the notes that you sing most comfortably with a lot of resonance/ring to them. So basically the notes that sound best in your voice. Mostly they tend to be in the middle of your particular range but don't have to be. Contralto is a rare voice type. Typically used for women with voices that go deeper than the alto range into more of the tenor or even baritone range.

The thicker the voice the harder it is to train it I’m a baritone and baritones have the most trouble training their voice You just need to practice to work your way into those high alto notes

@@neon2623 I've tested it. You can even try testing at home with youtube videos. If you're tone deaf, you can get someone to help. Just find a "vocal range scale" on yt, and sing along until you can't hit the notes anymore. Ur range is wherever your voice can reach, before cracking.
