If you accidentally cut your thread tail too short to fit into a needle and then thread through, slide the needle through the stitching and then thread the eye and finish pulling it through. Catherine Sews has a great method I love for beginning thread tails where you stitch a couple of stitches, raise the foot, bring the the tail forward and up against the needles, stitch for an inch or so, then allow the serger to cut the threads. She has something similar at the end of stitching where you chain off a few inches, then flip the work over and stitch over the tail for a bit to lock it.

Very well presented, fantastic work! A related tip: when chaining off on the serger, it can help to lift the foot and rotate the piece 90 degrees (or as close as you can manage) before chaining off, that way you get a really clean chain-off without the quarter or half inch of loose loops leading up to it.

That's a great idea, I can see it working really well especially when the tail is too short for a needle. In that case I've been burying the needle to the eye then threading the tail. Thanks!
