We'll show you step by step how we were successful using cowbells with worms to catch our limit of 10 Rainbow Trout and how you can use it in your area as well. Enjoy and God bless!

I tried to add detail in the text as we went along, but I'll give you a full breakdown here of the method we used: 1. The cowbells were by Les Davis. You can buy them fairly cheap on ebay. There are about 4 blades per assembly. The bigger blades (about 3") do better than the small ones and chrome for sunny days and brass color for cloudy days work best. 2. Use about 12 - 15 pound test for the main line and tie it to the plastic keel of the blade assembly. The keel keeps the line from twisting. 3. Tie on about a 6 - 8 pound test flourocarbon leader to the end of the blades about 24 - 30 inches long. Attach a #10 or #8 single hook to the leader end. 4. Minnows were not allowed in the lakes we fished so we used night crawler worms. Thread the worm onto the hook and about two inches up the line. Break it off leaving a small 1/2" tail. The worm should trail straight on the line not curled so it doesn't spin. 5. Set the trolling speed of your electric motor to about #3 or about .5 MPH using the GPS. Just enough to keep the blades turning. You will know when the speed is right when your rod tip pulses back and forth just a little. 5. Let the bait and the blades out behind the boat to troll between 50 to 75 feet. The blades will drop about 2 feet for every 10' they are trolled behind the boat. 6. Trolling with the blades around 10 -12 feet deep will pull fish up from a depth of 50 feet or less. If you mark fish at say 75 feet you will need to add on a 5/8 oz. inline trolling weight at the plastic keel to get the bait into the strike zone. 6. Many times when the fish strike they grab it in a way that is hard to set the hook. A 1 in 5 hookup is normal although we probably had a 1 in 2 hookup ratio. Hope that breakdown helped. Talk to you soon. God bless!

What lake is that? Very pretty and peaceful. We have great trout lakes where I live, but usually have cabins on them except a few. Bad Medicine is close to me along with Long Lake clearwater County do very well and I use cow bells or slip bobbers. Both are very fun.

It is one of a series of reclaimed mine pits that was made into a designated trout lake by the Minnesota fish commission. I don't know the name of it, but there are several in the same area and they are located South East of Brainerd Minnesota in Crow County. Here is a link to a list of trout pits and lakes you can look up and visit: www.dnr.state.mn.us/fishing/trout_lakes/list.html This was my first time fishing with cowbell and we did awesome even in such deep water. What fun! Hope that helps and thanks for watching and God bless!

Try the slow death hooks behind these rigs...

I'll have to try that. The added corkscrew feature might just be the ticket to make this rig even better. Thanks for the sharing and for watching too. God bless!

I don't remember for sure what length rods we were using, but I think they were around the 7' length. Really any trolling type rod should work well and I would not be afraid to us a 6' 6" spinning rod as long as it isn't too light. Thanks for watching and God bless!
