How to fish the NEW As Seen On TV Banjo Minnow (Does it actually work?) 

This was a doubly good episode. You showed how to rig and fish the Banjo Minnow extremely well. And it was so cool to see you and the kids have fun on the water. I think "The Waylon Technique" might just catch on with anglers across the nation. Especially with that final tank of a bass! No better advertisement for a lure than seeing it catch fish, with your own eyes. I found myself smilling throughout this video!

I remember getting the original kit when I was in 6th grade, they worked great. I got one of the newer kits years later and the plastic seemed different and not as good, too stiff, better for durability, but not as much action. The originals were the best!

Man I love when the kids catch a fish, especially one like that ! It really sets the hook for the future!

The Banjo minnow doesn’t get enough credit as the pre-cursor to our modern swimbaits and rigs. They’re weren’t perfect but definitely worked. My dads biggest LMB (8.4lbs) came on a Banjo in the late 90s.

I'd be tempted to try the new Banjo Minnows -- I still have some of the original ones made in the mid-90s -- but a little pricey at close to US$50 for soft plastics.

Just wanted to give you some advice. You can change the hook and it will be just fine. Try a Owner Mosquito hook. They are thin wire light hooks but they're much stronger and durable. Trust me I always have a banjo minnow tied on when I go out. And these hooks perform wonderful

Good ole banjo. The specks/warmouth use to live the smaller banjo lures. The old Flying Lures work really good too.

Banjo minnow is legit. But it wouldn’t work so good in California water. I order some banjo minnows but it’s never as effective as jerkbait, Keitech, senkos and roboworms

I got the banjo minnow back in 1996 I think when it used to be on TV. Yes it caught fish. The same way a fluke or nose hooked fluke, caffeine shad, etc does.

I was a kid in Utah and bought the banjo minnow. Never caught anything because I was fishing mostly for trout haha need to buy it now that I live in Texas and give it a shot!

I wonder why you never see any of the professional bass fisherman use this particular bait, knowing it catches good fish??

The Banjo Minnow was the very first lure(s) I ever bought from BPS…from their catalog of course. Remember the Chug Bug commercial? I’ve tried finding that old school commercial with no luck.

Imma have to get me some of them. 😂 I do remember getting some when they first came out back in the day, and yep, they worked. 👍👍

I especially liked Roland Martins helicopter lures. They work great in weedy water and lily pads

In 1997-2005, i caught soo many fish on the banjo minnow. I couldnt keep the wear and tear items in the kit stocked up. Rubber bands, o-rings, corkscrews.. I eventually stopped fishing them out of frustration of losing those pieces. Nevertheless, i have caught a few of my biggest fish and most fish in a single day on the banjo minnow.

These are nothing like the banjo minnows from the commercial that I ordered back in the day.

Teach your son to lift his rod tip before closing the bail on a spinning outfit. This clears possible loose loops clinging to the spool, which occur more when line twist starts building up. (Reeling while the drag is going out, makes line twist)

Brand new viewer! Was up-state on my fathers cabin with my buddy in Scranton Pennsylvania & busted out my old Banjo Minnow set and he went nuts! Made me want to find a video on it. I had the four originals with one of each color frogs as well and it had two rattles, the Watermelon color that's new to me I believe you said it was new. I recall there was a short VHS that gave a pop -motion with your rod like a dieing minnow reel in approach, the rubber bands are what made the bait weedless up against the prong of the hook and when the fish attacked the lure the rubber band slid off the prong and hence the fish would be hooked while the bait was weedless till that moment. The baits would last a good twenty years or so for anyone interested in knowing that fact, now if you unhook the bait you can do that maybe three times before each Banjo begins to not hold shape around the screw. I agree with you that the weed guard isn't necessary unless you're in a heavy water plant area "seaweed or lily pads".

Another fun episode! It's all fun and games until one of the kids hooks into a tank. Then dad gets serious, lol! That was a really nice fish!

Nothing better than seeing a kid excited about catching fish. I remember using the banjo minnow in the 90s, not sure it was any better than any other bass lure to be honest, I'd still prefer a crankbait any day, but I'm glad it did the trick for you.
