Also be sure to check out the "History of..." and "Tackle Shop Tour" channel playlists! We post just about every Saturday, and until then keep the carpet side up and fish it old school!
Zara puppy hands down my favorite. I’ve caught more and bigger fish on that lure than any topwater lure I’ve ever used. In one month I caught 5 bass that ranged from 9 pounds to 12 pounds. I was hooked from then on.
Outstanding video! Loved the pics of the "G" finish models. Not many around that haven't flaked off. I have the black and blue Color C Lector Zara, would love to find the big master packs of the Zara that had the 6 of them together.
Very enjoyable stuff - except that the theme song is permanently stuck in my head. Here in Canada retro hunters have our own targets. Lucky Strike lures, anyone?
This brought back so many memories. Keep up the informative content. Everyone today seems to be focusing on the electronics side of fishing. These old lures still catch fish.
I have caught as many fish or more on the Torpedo and the Crazy Crawler, two other Heddon classics. And yes, the Jitterbug and Hula Popper, but really, the topwater bait that has probably outfished any of these in the last 30 years is the Rebel Pop-R, just because more fisherman using it over the older topwater designs. Doesn’t mean it’s really any better, they are all good at times.
I still have some of the blueback ones and they still catch bass today. Ive caught both largemouth over downfalls and smallmouth under overhangs near the bank .
what about the jitterbug N hollapopR both Arbogast(sp) designs and should be hung next to a daredevil and Mepps but maybe that's just the great lakes fisherman in me.
Cool really enjoyed all of your videos. I guess in many ways I am an old school angler at heart. It would be cool to buy some of those old baits you run across about the country.
One of your best videos to date. Very well put together, with a ton of good information. Been thoroughly enjoying the history of the lures that you have featured. Favorite old school top waters are the jitterbug and the Zara spook. Can’t pick just one!. Would love to see something on the history of the Arbogast Mudbug. My favorite old-school crank bait.
if the rooster tail would have a built-in swivel, it would be a much nicer lure to use. Without the swivel, they twist line up very much. This is why the super rooster tail is my favorite of the group by far. There is another similar in-line spinner like the rooster tail, but it come with a swivel built in from the factory. They work great.
