We have done what we think is one of the best upgrades to the Traxxas Xmaxx; modified and fitted a 1/5th scale servo
Video shows how to modify the chassis, all you need is the 3d printed top plate (available below - contact us on facebook) and 2 M4x45mm and 2 M4x20mm screws to fix the plate down
We reused the receiver box
Much more power and strength than the awful Traxxas servos and cheaper to buy as well
The servo we fitted was the Savox SW-0241MG much better than the standard Traxxas TRX2085 or he TRX2085X and cheaper
Servo plate is available to ship worldwide
On ebay now or find us on facebook and drop a message

Moving the steering linkage to a shorter position on the servo horn actually makes the servo effectively slower but more powerful. The longer the arm is the more range but the less mechanical advantage the servo has.
@TeamRC3D
@TeamRC3D 2 года назад
Yes you also need to make sure thr servo throw is not too big and putting stress in the servo

How did it go?

@daveat957 6 месяцев назад
@BIGBagg-mx6xi haven't had much time to work on it, I did get a rough cut on the main frame. Servo is in but still need to drill holes for the wiring and shave the front frame
@daveat957
@daveat957 3 месяца назад
@BIGBagg-mx6xi , got it installed today. I tried to modify one of my 1/10 tie rods as steering linkage, but it wouldn't work. The pivot joint is too fat to fit in the horn. I tried combining the two but stock tie rod end pulled right out first turn. I'll pick up a hot racing solid one. I did cut out a hair too much on the sides but doesn't matter. I did have to take the cables though the battery box.

@@TeamRC3Dhow did the stock steering link hold up?

Is it also pssible to get an higher holder, so i can keep the inner ribbing of the bulkhead? There is an german who makes an holder without needing to remove the inner ribbing of the bulkhead, but his holder is basicly just a clip. I like yours more, because its adding stiffnes into the weaken chassis.
@TeamRC3D
@TeamRC3D 6 месяцев назад
No not really as it is not possible to use this type of design without removing
@G.J.G.P.
@G.J.G.P. 6 месяцев назад
@@TeamRC3D why not? Just add what ever the hight of the inner ribbing has to the front and rear part of the sides of your holder, and thats it. The servo would just sit a bit higher. That should not be a problem. To make it perfect, you also could have added an angle to the front side of the holter, so its flush with that angled part of the chassis.

Hi. Drop us a message on Facebook to order one, £15 posted. The big difference is durability. Bigger servos has bigger tougher gears which last longer.

Sweet mod but these days it's really not necessary. There are so many very powerful standard size servos available that you really don't need to modify the chassis to fit a 1/5 scale servo. The power hobby 760 servo is more powerful, faster and cheaper.
@TeamRC3D
@TeamRC3D 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment always appreciated . All the decent 1/10 servos we can find are more money than the 1/5th Savox we have fitted.

If you really want a powerful servo you could try the PowerHobby 1512MG - it’s a 1/5 servo with 100kg rating. However it costs about £200!

Id say its possibly even more stiff thsn stock. But when done properly. If you cut the plastic out carefully and neatly like the video where the plastic is basically a tight fit around the servo which is a block of metal, and then the thick plastic plate that they make bolted on top to clamp all that together. And then its sandwiched between the chassis to reinforce the whole thing as one big metal center for the steering servo.. I mean if it doesn't work, a new chassis is cheap and you can just buy a 1/10 or xmaxx servo. Id like to see more real world reviews, especially when jumping normally as you did before this Mod and if there's any chassis issues..
