Cheers Trav, real helpful stuff. Just fitted PPD exhaust and boost tee. Bloody good, the hilux loves it. Real quick on boost. I’m a sucker for turbo whistle & that’s a treat too. Dump pipe was 90% of the job. Bolt that I needed not to round did of course, so it was turbo out which made the tee easy going anyway 👌 In hindsight could maybe have left turbo in and used a bolt extractor socket but could have just made fitting the dump pipe difficult. Thanks again.
Thanks Trav I was planning to do this next weekend just had the tee turn up in the mail yesterday, this is going to be a great help! Really appreciate it cheers 👍
@@TRAV30387 you mentioned in the video that you also had a dual battery setup under bonnet, would like to see how you set that up and where you fit that battery👍
Great vid, very helpful and easy to understand. Also like the one on the fcd but wish it also showed where you spliced in the boost gauge and how you fittes the fcd. Thx:)
Gday mate was just wondering where are u running your boost gauge from atm I have mine running from a line I found on the top of my engine just before the throttle body but wanna tape it into my boost line when I put my boost tee in if I put it in the boost tee line where do I put the t bit before or after the arrow on the boost tee ??
Hey mate so boost tee you want on your turbo side there a hose on your turbo get some new hose cut it in half and put boost tee in there mate leave the boost gauge hose alone cheers mate
I did a EGR delete and caped off where the breather plugs into the intake. Then ran the upper port from the rocker cover to a catch can. Is that right? Or should I run it back to the intake?
Hey Trav, thansk for the explanation. Sorry if you've mentioned this previously. What is the safe zone for boosting the turbo on these engines? I went for a cheaper T Boost tap from ebay and find it difficult to set right. It jumps dramatically with the slightest turn. Currently boosts to about 22psi but I try not to let that happen too much. I back the pedal off to about 18psi. Should I be worried about this? EGTs are staying down no higher than 550.C on a long steep incline when i'm fangin' it but typically no higher the 500.c (which from my research and understanding is all within the safe realm). What's your experience? Cheers :)
Not a problem mate the stock turbos good for about 18psi for effect power any more its running out of puff. Thats a cheep boost t mate sounds like its 4psi interval between clicks.. egts mate 550° is limit tho dont hold that temp for long not goot for the ol girl put a intercooler on and u wont have an issue im running my st up 23 psi and full load up hill 25psi i hit around 500° on long up hill runs tho can sit in 5th easly at 120klms thats what a intercooler can do keep watching mate were doin a lux vs lux video soon
@@TRAV30387Thanks heaps for the video mate. I have an intercooled 1kz te on a prado, and my EGT sensor is right where the exhaust manifold joins all the pipes pre turbo. These temperatures you are mentioning are post turbo? Mine runs a lot higher than that before hitting the original fuel cut (borderline 700C on a heavy uphill climb and I quickly let the foot off to stabilize at around 550c). The intake has been cleaned, catch can fitted, egr deleted, new radiator, thermostat and polished exhaust manifold but still running original exhaust, waiting to upgrade it before cheating the ECU pressure sensor.
@@martinravina6934 hey mate yes my egt probe is post so in the dump pipe im gettin up to 1000 fahrenheit on up hill runs in 5th gear doing 100klms around the 500° If your probs is pree turbo in the manifold it surely will read alot hotter.. Cheers for the comment
@@trolzealot8635 hey Trol, no checklight whatsover. Not with the blanking plate nor with the recent complete delete. Thought I might have to have the solenoid egr valve solenoid plugged in but didn't even bother as no light came up. Good luck mate!
Hey bro. I’m going to be doing this on my 80 series landcruiser. To install the boost gauge I just t into that new 6mm hose and clamp it off, correct ? Does it matter what side of the boost controller I put the t into?
Great video! I'm assuming it will be the same for a 99 hilux surf? You wouldn't be keen on making a how too on fitting a boost guage as well would you?
Gday trav great video im 100% going to do this thanks for the video. Do you know the name or part number for the gaskit for the coolant lines Cheers mate
Be careful with where you start with your clicks, lucky I started at the lowest setting because at 2 clicks in I got 11.9 psi, that's with turbosmart tee, egt/boost gauge, 3 inch stainless exhaust, snorkel, good air filter
Fuel cut defender my friend ive done a video on this also i was running 18psi at one stage now 25psi with the new build have a look thru my channel mate heaps of info🍺🍺🍺
Yes it can if you can fit a egt gauge u can monitor the temps tho a stock exhaust may b to restrictive to wind up past say 12psi.. i never ran an egt gauge till i went up to 18 psi with the fuel cut defender... now ive got a completely different set up
Nice truck, I congratulate you, I wanted to ask you if you have eliminated the EGR and if you have done it, if it has given you any inconvenience, regards
@@TRAV30387 On Saturday my engine shot when I went from 2nd to 3rd at full low at 4,500 rpm, I managed to turn it off by putting a rag on the turbo, now I'm analyzing what could have happened, I'm suspecting that gases passed through the EGR, the intake is Clean, now I'm going to change the turbo and put a 3-inch downpipe, do you have any theories?
@@TRAV30387 that's right, engine out of control, I turned off the car immediately but it was still on, then I took the rag out of the turbo I turned it on and returned to my normal house, it has an original electronic pump, my car is a land cruiser prado J90 year 98, hopefully it's just the turbo which I am going to change but I am seeing what could happen and cover the EGR with 2 blind plates, I don't know if I am correct
@@TRAV30387 you wouldn't happen to know, as a matter of interest, what year toyota introduced the EGR ? my 2002 Prado kzj95r, 1kz-te doesn't appear to have one either.
If you have not done a decent exhaust system that might be it, I was surprised when I installed my turbo back 3 inch how small and restricted the standard turbo downpipe is, worked for me at 14 and runs well and sound nice, I got 3 inch stainless turbo back exhaust, snorkel, and k&n filter
