Thank you so much. Excellent idea. Especially for those with larger bikes that don't do well with a sudden unexpected stop. I have done the clunk thing a few times (not fun with a 1200 Suzuki Bandit) and years ago, a friend was a bit exuberant on pull away and dropped his gorgeous custom 900 Ninja street fighter on the deck. He said the only thing more painful than hearing her hit concrete pavement, was the sound of laughter coming from folks at the outside tables of the restaurant, making him feel like the worlds biggest and smallest pillock all at once.
If possible on your machine, fit the lock with the key facing "inside" the wheel. Gives theives extra inconvenience if they have a disc detainer lock picking tool.
Check you can still access the key though! Accidentally did this in another country a short while before a ferry. Ended up having to remove the front wheel on my bike because the mag wheel stopped me getting the key in the disc lock. Was quite a stressful undergoing with the time ticking on our ferry departure.
Picked up a couple of cables to go with my disc locks for my motorcycles and scooters. In Madrid, I paid about 5 Euros for each bright yellow cable. Cable also serves as a deterrent to the thieves, who might simply look for an easier target nearby.
That’s fine but what are the “split ring” and the knotted black bit of paracord for that come with the reminder cable? I see that the split link on yours is hanging free but presumably these two items have a purpose? Thanks!
Quick temporary solution i put bolts secured with nuts through the holes in the calipers on both wheels until i got my disc lock/alarm they're not noticeable if it's dark. replacing brakes is cheaper than buying a new bike remember to take them out before moving the bike though.
It isn’t just a reminder. Now that there is a cord to the disc lock, if you touch the handle bars the alarm will go off due to connected movement to the disc lock.
This may be the case for some systems but for this one, It is simply there to remind the rider to take it off. It still does work well as a deterrent especially if it is like the set up you mentioned with an alarmed disc lock as it will work very well as like you stated the movement will set the disc lock off.
In theory if you put this thing on a alarm dick lock would it make it more sensitive? As in if you put your helmet on a mirror and accidentally move the handle bar in effect moving the string would it cause the alarm to go off
