So its important to always bang your head on the sink both entering and leaving, and set your hair on fire as you work under the sink, and leave one joint half-soldered because your phone rings half way through. Turning off the mains water first can help if you remember... and though the cables usually go downwards that electric socket will be the exception and you will go through the cables sure as butter. Oh and by the way drilling those pilot holes for the tap base will surely snap a bit off the brick and you'll get no plug in there..or the second of three either so its a risky single-screw by the look of it. Then her husband will come down ..working from home he is two days a week ( in building control) and suggests you're taking a long time for a simple tap, haha ha.

You are supposed to sleeve the pipe through the cavity in case it gets damaged via frost or debris falling down the cavity causing a leak in the cavity which can cause a lot of damage if you have insulation in there and you won’t know until it’s to late

Water byelaws require a sleeve to be fitted over the pipe and through the wall cavity. I use plastic overflow pipe for this and the drill diameter is 22mm. It's also easier to fit the tap first to the wall plate and then fit it to the wall before screwing it. That way it's guaranteed to be straight.

Hey, I love your videos! I'm also a plumber but I work giving advice only at B&Q. I imagine your audience will most likely be apprentices and DIY enthusiasts. The all in one kit that DIY retailers sell aren't too bad but I agree, you can't beat hard pipe because hoses naturally degrade over time. Doing what I do at B&Q I know what the most common advice DIYers are looking for, would love to have a chat to help you reach a wider audience. Then I can tell customers where to get a video tutorial!

Hi mate, just wondering why u didn't sleeve the 15mm pipe with 22mm pipe, as it is going through a solid concrete wall. 🤔
@johno-gb7ci
@johno-gb7ci 4 года назад
You'd have to drill a 24mm hole. that hole would almost hit the holes for the plugs. Possibly crack brick then not get good fixing. It doesn't need a sleeve. It Would be good practice to wrap with duct tape before fitting. stops the concrete or brick coroding copper.

I wish I watched this a week ago, I just fitted a a tap just like this, I put the tap into the wall mount and did it up tight, then pushed it through the wall and marked the holes so the tap was straight, the holes didn't end up lining up and my tap is now slightly off straight. Maybe I'll remove the tap use lock tight thread and refit

Haha - I'm here watching this video, because while my taps (Put a hot water one too) ended up straight I had real aggro getting them straight and water tight prior to fitting. I figured I MUST have done it wrong - and apparently here's the answer! At least I know what to do if one starts weeping

Good video! A garden tap needs to be connected to a double check valve. You can get taps that have double check valves within it but they can become damaged by the frost at winter, therefore its best to install them inside as you have shown.

Fit the check valve inside if the tap outside freezes the water will expand and ruin the check valve inside allways fit a tap with a check valve built in much easier to replace when things go wrong better still make sure the tap outside is insulated in the winter

Pipes going through a supporting wall or cavity should be sleeved, normally a 15mm pipe would be sleeved with 22mm. This is incase there is any movement in the building so the pipe doesn't crush but also incase there is a leak. The water wouldn't be able to leak into the cavity and would go straight outside.

@ian bellis Pipes going thru a wall are sleeved to stop them from being corroded by the concrete or cement. Concrete walls or the like corrode the copper. So the use of 22mm is sacrificial. Also yoy say it is to stop water going into cavity we seal tge sleeve at both ends to stop ingress of cold air in hot air out and stop creepy crawlies from entering. I use silicone. And as for building movement. If it was gonna move that much to crush a pipe i tor one would not want to live there.

Might sound like a stupid question but whenever I fit these I can never get the tap straight so end up faffing around putting more and more PTFE on to get it tight enough. Does the loctite you used stop this happening?
@Anakinuk007
@Anakinuk007 5 лет назад
Rian Murray - its a bit hit and miss. I literally fitted x6 of them today for a building site. 2 were perfect, finished straight and tight as possible. The other four, identical, did not make that extra 1/2 or 1/4 turn. So had to remove, reapply tape then remember to not go that extra turn at the end. IMO they arent made right, you’d think they would be designed so that the thread is consistent and when fully tightened end up straight! If your really keen, there is a fibre washer that can make up the difference. I should prob try loctite more often lol - I broke the metal catch bit on my first ever new roll before I’d even used it! Dropped on the floor and it broke. So ever since I’ve just stuck to ptfe. Note - these particular fittings you can fit these tight and straight, then mark the holes so no issue. Normally they are fitted into a standard backplate.
@globalste
@globalste 5 лет назад
The Captain why don’t you tighten the tap and then screw it to the wall after?
@Anakinuk007
@Anakinuk007 5 лет назад
globalste - as noted, yes your right. If using the same backplate kit as shown in video. Otherwise a standard backplate you cant pre tighten it. You could in theory screw the plate on wonky but would look ridiculous.
