Can you make a video about how to remove the headlight from Volkswagen Jetta vehicle for better access to the bulb
@xenonland
@xenonland 3 года назад
We are on the technical side of the xenon repairs and only dealing with the xenon parts. All other mechanical stuff are left to mechanics. Unfortunately for this model, removal of the bumper is absolute must (working with a loose bumper just will lead to a bottom headlight leg damage, hence a condensation issue). There are three fixing tabs to be released in order to remove the headlight: one at the top (first tab), one at the inner side where the headlight meets the grill (second tab), and one at the very bottom (due to this bottom lug, you will not be able to remove the headlight from the car without removing the bumper, or under covers). Absolute torture to replace a simple bulb or ballast/module due to bumper being bulky. But in any case, we always recommend total removal of the headlight from the car in case of ballast/module failure to identify the condensation/moisture source. Otherwise any replacement ballast/module will burn again shortly. Thanks for your interest in our video.

Removing the bumper is not a big issue, just couple of screws to remove, but it is bulky and usually you might need additional help from a friend.

After checking the china copies I get the question. Exactly, replica ignitors do not have this silver metal/contact ring.

@@xenonland I got quoted $500plus here in Australia VW dealership so I looked up in ebay same as the OEM cannot tell difference besides light printed I got them for $71 AUD since my left one had burnt the connector of the ignitor & the previous owner had to replace the headlight due to wires got burn loose arching ignitor to bulb
@xenonland

In Europe, they are sold around 100 eur new-genuine. It is very likely that you will have some issues with these aftermarket ignitors, their plastic is softer and tend to melt.

You should state in the title that this is only for specific model, cause the last step is incorrect, for other cars like audi, which is also a vw, you should put the power cable before locking the igniter, cause locking the igniter is also locking the power cable, otherwise it won't fit!
@xenonland
@xenonland Год назад
You are wrong my friend. Probably you are talking for audi a3 where you have very limited space to fit it. Even removing the igniter at a3 is pain. But steps are same. If you put the power plug first the internat ring will move and opening as well. Then you can not fit the bulb correctly. You will damage the igniter internals or in time the bulb base will melt. If you still do not believe see audi repair manual and you will see that the official steps are same as I describe.

@@xenonland Was talking about audi a6 which doesn't have the ring that you can remove but the wire which is holding the bulb in place. So once you remove igniter the power cable unplugs itself, but if you lock the igniter before putting the cable, you will not be able to lock the cable plug. Yesterday I was changing it and I was pissed off cause as you said there is no space at all aroung the headlights and I have to remove filter housing and plenty other stuff 😭 On the other side my igniter looks healthy also the bulb but the light doesn't show up, when I remove the bulb and turn on the ignition I see it is sparking at the place where the bulb fits and also loud noise from sparking, the wierd thing is that both looks healthy.
@xenonland
@xenonland Год назад
First, a6 has not any bulb retainer, ring. It has springs. Second it is Hella system, not AL. Third the plug goes again at the end. If you put the plug first you will move the alignment ring further. VERY SIMPLE, AND WITHOUT PLACE FOR DISCUSSION. Then you can not insert the bulb properly. This is not a standard locking mechanism, the pin of the alugnment ring ejects the plug when removing the igniter. Not any lock. The upper line cut serves as lock when inserting the plug. Anyway i will make a video and show you the official audi repair manual steps when dealing with audi a6 xenon headlight. You are deadly mistaken, exactly thats why you guys break the igniters pins, alignment rings or the alignment ring tiny 4 bases that you barely can see. Promise will make the video showing audi OFFICIAL REPAIR MANUAL.

@@xenonland My bad then, and my comment was a result of being pissed off about engineers who made this so stupid that you have to dismantle "half of a car" to replace a bulb, so sorry about that. Would be super useful if you make a video for proper replacement of this type of bulbs.
@xenonland
@xenonland Год назад
@@Pigilili no problem, most of the mechanics do not follow the steps and break the igniters and retainers and they do not tell even to the customers. definitely we will make a video for audi a6 4f soon.
